  • Patent number: 7249877
Abstract: A reflector lamp assembly may be formed with a reflector housing having a reflector with a prescribed reflective surface; the reflector formed with a wall defining a through passage. A lamp bulb assembly having an axially extending stem supports a head extending transverse to the axis, the head having a first generally linearly extending region, a first set of LEDs mounted generally in a row along the region oriented to face in one plane towards a reflector. Electrical connections for the LEDs extend through the head, and stem to the exterior of the assembly for electrical connection. A base extends in the through passage and is mechanically mounted to the optical housing with the LED assembly oriented to face the reflective surface.

  • Patent number: 7245075
Abstract: Metal halide lighting with good color during dimming may be obtained. An appropriate balance of commonly used metal halides (NaI, DyI3, CeI3, CaI2, TlI) is dosed in the lamp. No mercury is used. A higher than typical xenon fill pressure from 50 to 500 Kilopascals may be used to help control thermal properties and voltage. If necessary, modulation of the power at acoustic resonance frequencies may be used to straighten and center the arc. Efficient and pleasant white output is obtained. As the power is reduced, the chromaticity either (1) remains fairly constant or (2) drifts acceptably towards warm pinkish colors. Large factors of attenuation in output can be realized. The lumen output was reduced by at least a factor of twenty in one sample as the power was dimmed from 70 to 20 watts.

  • Patent number: 7150553
Abstract: Open LED chips may be arranged directly on the surface of a replaceable lamp capsule without intervening packages that reduce overall light emission. The chips may be oriented in such a way that the lamp generates a unique “donut” shape radiation pattern, which is suitable for a flat and shallow secondary optics to collimate the light into a desired beam pattern, and to reduce the unaesthetic appearance of points of light in an onlooker's view. The LED chips are driven in such a way that one chip fails, the whole lamp fails to avoid a partially lit appearance. At the same time the heat generated by the LED chips may be conducted away by the support structure to possibly vehicle's sheet metal to enhance life of the LED chip. The standardization of this LED lamp makes this product more cost effective thus to be used in broader lighting applications.
