  • Patent number: 4072446
Abstract: The invention resides in a rotary machine in which an electromagnetic spherically shaped armature and a pump impeller being enclosed in a casing are born, as a unit, by a frusto-spherical bearing of which the convex (or ball) part rotates, and in which frictional rotatable seal means are carried by an annular wall extending inwardly of the casing between armature and impeller supports the fixed bearing part and sealing means which isolate the spaces in which run the armature and the impeller respectively.

  • Patent number: 4056037
Abstract: A bolt fastener of known kind for engagement in a socket is screwthreaded at its outer end, which protrudes for engagement with a nut. The fastener has a waisted portion, including a taper, towards the inner end of the fastener, the taper converging away from the inner end. The waisted portion is loosely surrounded by a collar with a slit along it. The collar grips the socket when the nut is tightened to withdraw the fastener relatively to the collar, the collar thereby being expanded by the taper. The present fastener is used wholly within the socket and, instead of being screwthreaded externally, has a bore which extends axially from the outer end and is screwthreaded for engagement with a headed bolt.

  • Patent number: 4055106
Abstract: The present invention comprises a fluid pump motor unit and a controller unit which controls the output of the pump/motor irrespective of the speed of the power source driving the pump/motor unit. The pump/motor unit comprises a cylindrical housing within which there is arranged at least one rectangular expansible cylinder assembly mounted on a crankshaft in a radial pattern, the cylindrical assembly being pivotally mounted within the housing for movement about trunnions, the rectangularly adapted piston assembly within said housing being journaled on a crankshaft which crankshaft with respect to the centerline of the cylindrical housing has a rotation parallel to, but spaced from, the centerline of the housing. The pivotal oscillation of each cylinder assembly alternately opens a port for the inflow of a fluid and subsequently closes that port while simultaneously opening another port for the outward flow of the fluid under compression as the piston moves toward the top of the chambers.

  • Patent number: 4050289
Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for, performing comparison calibrations of temperature sensors using a temperature controlled fluidized bath. The bath is operated such that prior to recording the indications of the temperature sensors the supply of fluidizing medium to, and the heat exchange with, the particulate material within the bath are simultaneously terminated. It has been found that when this procedure is adopted considerably better temperature stability is experienced in the bath than when fluidization is maintained throughout the entire period of calibration.

  • Patent number: 4030251
Abstract: A marginal floor brush spacedly surrounding the rim of a chambered sanding machine base. The brush meets the floor and confines wood dust developed by a rotary sanding unit in the base. The dust is drawn from under the brush by a vacuum unit in the machine. This is facilitated by disposing the brush floatingly free of the machine to stir up and separate the dust particles and leave the floor clear of dust as the machine moves on.

  • Patent number: 4025922
Abstract: A traffic control system particularly suitable for aiding the blind includes an interrogating FM radio transmitter-receiving unit, which can be incorporated into a cane or the like, and a responding FM radio receiver-transmitter unit operatively associated with the traffic signal light control circuits at a street intersection. The interrogating unit transmits an FM signal modulated by a coded signal indicative of which direction its blind operator wishes to cross the intersection. The responding unit, in response to the FM signal received from the interrogating unit, transmits an FM signal modulated by a coded signal corresponding to that received from the interrogating unit whenever the traffic signal light conditions are such that a safe crossing in the desired direction is possible.

  • Patent number: 4020685
Abstract: The invention relates to a phasemeter, particularly for torque measurement, using trigger devices to convert phase related input analogue signals to digital signals the mark space ratio of which is a measure of phase displacement between the input signals, and uses a technique of attenuating an input signal, until no change in mark space ratio of the digital output is produced, for ensuring that the triggers trigger at the same level, and also provides for complementation of the trigger outputs as a check on the operation of the triggers.

  • Patent number: 3959903
Abstract: A display stand containing a horizontally-rotatable group of pockets carried by a vertical spindle, the pockets open at the top. A plastic sheet covers the pockets to keep out falling dust, and is perforated for the passage of the spindle. • Patent number: 3958336
Abstract: For accurate measurement of the linear movement of a traveller relatively to a low-torque rotary transducer, a cylindrical pulley on the transducer is driven by a wire which extends between this pulley and an idler pulley to embrace both; the free ends of the wire are fastened to the traveller to form a taut loop of length exceeding the maximum stroke of the traveller. A box-section cover enclosing the driving system (except for a lengthwise slot for passage of the traveller) is closed at one end by the transducer casing and at the other end by a box carrying the idler pulley; slotted holes for screws fastening the cover to the transducer allow the wire loop to be pulled taut. The wire loop passes through slits in cleaning plates adjacent to each pulley. Plates on the traveller locate it in the cover after initial assembly and until the device is set up for use.

  • Patent number: 3955802
Abstract: A stirring rod is inserted through a resilient suspension diaphragm which is sealably secured to the underside of a closure for a flask or container. An L-shaped support bracket is attached to the outer, upper surface of the closure. The upstanding leg of the bracket carries an expansible pressurizable chamber which is connected, on its outerside, to a supply of single phase ACA and, on its innerside, to the upper portion of the stirring rod extending above the closure by a horizontal link which, at one end, is fitted over the stirring rod and at the opposite end is secured to the expansible chamber. The horizontal leg of the bracket which is secured to the closure carries, at its extremity opposite the upstanding leg, support means, to the upper end of which is attached a camming plate. The camming plate extends toward the upper portion of the stirring rod but stops short of this portion to allow controlled lateral movement of the stirring rod toward the camming plate.
