Abstract: A refrigeration capacity accumulator including a set of parallel transversely spaced tubes arranged in layers. Each tube is closed at both ends and contains a static liquid that solidifies into ice when the tube is exposed to a below-zero temperature. Each tube compensates for the expansion of the static liquid during solidification. Specifically, the tube is arranged in a horizontal position, an expansion space is provided in the gap between the static liquid and the cylindrical wall of the tube, and two internally hemispherical end walls are provided. According to the method, the accumulator is operated and a zigzagging flow of a dynamic fluid is fed through the spaces between and around the tubes. The accumulator may be connected to a refrigeration unit and/or an operating apparatus.
Abstract: Rather than providing replaceable filter elements in fixed permanent housings which require replacement by plastic bagging techniques, easily disposable and incineratable filter modules are removed and replaced as integral units while providing complete protection against contaminants from filtered exhaust air from enclosures containing airborne or potentially airborne hazardous materials, such as biological safety cabinets, fume hoods, cages for contaminated animals, nuclear facilities, etc. The disposable filter modules are removable and replaceable by a technique in which the modules are maintained under negative pressure via a filtered vacuum source at all times while the module inlets and outlets are open. Sealing of the openings is by small sheets of polyethylene film, and no bagging such as in the known "bag in, bag out" technique is required.
Abstract: An adjusting device for adjusting the angle between a ski boot and a sliding surface of an associated ski. The adjusting device operates as a function of parameters correlated with turning of the associated ski by a skier causing parameter-dependent pivoting of the ski boot relative to the sliding surface of the ski. During a turn, the sliding surface of the ski is inclined to an angle greater than the boot giving the skier better ski edge penetration.
Abstract: A method for permitting the joining together of two adjacent pipe lengths with adjacent ends curving with substantially the same sense, the method comprising rotating the end of one of the pipe lengths about its axis until it curves in substantially the opposite sense to the curve of the adjacent end of the other pipe length.
Abstract: A method comprising a step to form a hole (2) for charging a breaking substance (4) into an object to be fractured (1), a step to insert a pair of electrodes (6) having a thin metal wire (5) connected between ends thereof into the hole (2), a step to dispose the breaking substance (4) and the thin metal wire (5) into a bag-like container (22) made of rubber at a stage to supply electric energy accumulated in a capacitor to the electrodes (6) for fusing and vaporizing the thin metal wire (5), thereby swelling a volume of the breaking substance (4) and breaking the object to be fractured (1), and a step to fit the bag-like container (22) into the hole (2). This method assures secure transmission of an expansion force to the object to be fractured even when the hole formed in the object to be fractured is deformed.
Abstract: A plasma enhanced gas reactor including a reaction chamber having a pair of field-enhancing electrodes each of which has an axial passage through it by one of which a reactant gas is admitted to the reaction chamber, and by the other of which reaction products are removed from the reaction chamber.

Abstract: A system for regulating flow of fluid through a flow line, such as a supply line, the line having a flow controller such as a valve, the system having a sensor for generating a signal in response to a parameter, a transmitter for transmitting a corresponding signal to a receiver at a remote location, a receiver for receiving the signal from the transmitter, an actuator for operating a regulator in response to the signal received by the actuator for operating the valve or other flow regulator.

Abstract: A refrigeration panel system is provided having a first panel and a second panel. Each of the panels has an insulated core and a top and bottom metal skin attached to the insulation core. The first panel includes a groove at an end of the insulation core of the first panel. The second panel includes a tongue formed on the end of the insulation core of the second panel. The groove is adapted to receive and surround the tongue. Interlocking engagement members are disposed inside the groove and along the tongue, and provide a biasing force that pulls and holds the end of the first panel and the end of the second panel together, after the tongue is inserted into the groove and pushed past a predetermined point.

Abstract: A cue stick for billiards or pool and the like, is provided with a tubular, or ring like weight for adding mass during use for transferring greater energy to a cue ball. The weight may be provided with different sized openings for adjustably positioning the weight closer to or farther away from one end of the cue stick.
Abstract: A sewing machine has needles reciprocally movable in a first direction through a fabric web and shuttles reciprocally movable in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The used shuttles accommodating an empty bobbin is replaced with the new shuttle accommodating a full bobbin. The needles and the shuttles cooperate to form stitch patterns on the fabric web. A device is provided for the automatic replacement of the used shuttle with the new shuttle.
Abstract: An electronic layout of an electronic exit sign, that encompasses the entire electronic packaging and lighting inside the exit sign enclosure. The layout includes brackets that function both as a method for holding LEDs for illuminating the sign, and as enclosures for enclosing the electronics of a controller and a power unit. The LEDs are mounted to the brackets and held by nylon buttons. A battery pack for battery backup and a battery backup self-test switch is mounted to a releasable plate. This allows the battery backup feature to be an option and also allows for easy replacement of discharged batteries. The LEDs are spaced in such a way as to provide uniform lighting to both the exit sign and a chevron symbol. The LEDs are positioned so that the same unit can drive either a single or double face exit.
Abstract: A plate (12) or pipe wall is inspected by coupling an ultrasonic transducer (14, 16) to its surface so as to generate a compression wave or lateral wave (26) along the surface and a shear wave or head wave (28) along the surface and a shear wave or head wave (28) at the shear-compression critical angle (.theta..sub.c) The same transducer (14, 16), or an additional transducer (15, 16) also coupled to the surface, detects a series of ultrasonic peaks corresponding to each generated ultrasonic pulse. Each such detected peak corresponds to ultrasonic energy traveling, partly as lateral waves (26, 32) on one surface or the other, and partly as head waves (28, 30) crossing a certain number of times between the surfaces. The transducers (14, 15) may be over 0.5 m apart, and substantially all the intervening parts of the plate (12) are inspected.
Abstract: A stain resistant laminated sheet material is provided which comprises: a base fabric; a stain resistant resin layer provided on at least one side of the base fabric; and a color layer provided on the stain resistant resin layer. The color layer is soluble in a particular solvent in which the stain resistant resin layer is insoluble.
Abstract: The invention provides a water-blocking composite comprising a substrate impregnated with or having a coating of a mixture of a radiation-polymerised compound and a water-swellable compound, and method for production thereof.
