Abstract: A replacement pipe is installed within an existing service pipe (1) by first advancing a sealing means (6,8) along the existing pipe to a position adjacent its junction with a main pipe (2), then deploying the sealing means to seal against the inner surface of the existing pipe) in the example shown, by pumping sealant (10) into the space between the seal body (6) and the pipe (1), and subsequently advancing the replacement pipe along the existing pipe. The space between the two pipes is then filled with sealant and finally the sealing means is opened, in the example shown by withdrawing a guide rod (5) and its collar (7) on which the sealing means was advanced into position.
Abstract: A mutant of the mono-oxygenase cytochrome P-450.sub.cam in which the tyrosine residue at position 96 and/or the cysteine residue at positon 334 is replaced by the residue of any amino acid except phenylalanine.

Abstract: Provided is a faulty sewing detector that is, for example, mounted on an overlock sewing machine, with which an over-edge chain stitch is made in a state in which a body fabric and a sleeve fabric of a T shirt or underwear are overlapped with each other. The detector comprises a fabric twisting detecting sensor that detects a fabric twisting by determining the number of overlap of fabrics sewed which is disposed at a position corresponding to the fabric sewing area of a needle, and, behind a needle location in a sewing direction; a faulty sewing judging means that compares a fabric twisting quantity detected by the sensor, with a preset permissible fabric twisting quantity, to judge it as faulty sewing when the former exceeds the latter; and an informing means that is activated when judged as faulty sewing.
Abstract: An improved polymer film material for the packaging of perishable foodstuffs, wherein the surface structure of the polymer is altered by means of an ion bombardment process so as to reduce the rates of transport of oxygen and water vapor through the polymer material wherein the polymer film material is produced by subjecting at least one surface of the film to ion bombardment with ions selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, helium, and argon at energies of 30-80 KeV and ion doses in the range of 10.sup.12 to 10.sup.18 ions/cm.sup.2.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for dilatation of, and delivery and deployment of stents at, a bifurcation. The system includes two guidewires, one disposed in each branch of the bifurcation. A device and stents are provided which allow accurate dilatation and stenting of the bifurcation, without removing the guidewires, and such that the stents closely conform to the geometry of the bifurcation.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for treating spots and other symptoms of acne and related skins disorders in mammals, which comprises applying to the affected area of the skin of the mammal a non-aqueous composition comprising a dermatologically effective amount of a particulate silica, silica hydrate or precursor thereof. The invention also provides compositions for topical application to the skin which comprise particulate silica, silica hydrate or a precursor thereof in a non-aquous carrier medium.
Abstract: An impeller mixer assembly is provided for stirring a radioactive material in a vessel having a combination of liquid and solid substances, until that combination turns into a liquid slurry that can be pumped out of the vessel. The impeller mixing assembly includes a folding blade assembly for stirring the radioactive material in the vessel. The folding blade assembly has a folded position when a mixing shaft assembly is not rotating, and an open position when the mixing shaft and the folding blade assembly are rotated at a predetermined speed and the folding blade assembly is submerged in the radioactive substance. A method is provided for stirring a radioactive material in a vessel having a combination of liquid and solid substances, until that combination turns into a liquid slurry that can be pumped out of the vessel.

Abstract: A reinforced container, particularly of thin gauge metal, is encircled by a thermoplastic sleeve which is shrunk thereabout for applying a radial squeezing force to give the container adequate axial strength for withstanding the axial compressive pressures of conventional filling and closing machines.
Abstract: A chuck (25) for chucking a journal (271) of a crankshaft (27) is attached to the distal end of a main spindle (22) rotated by a drive motor. A phasing rotary shaft (53) is connected to the chuck (25) to rotate about an axis offset from the axis of the main spindle (22). The chuck (25) is provided with a coupling (63) that releasably connects the phasing rotary shaft (53) and the chuck (25). Further, a locking mechanism for locking the phasing rotary shaft (53) is provided. The coupling (63) has a pair of coupling plates (64 and 65) that can be moved closer to and farther from each other. Opposing faces of these coupling plates (64 and 65) have teeth (641 and 651), which are meshed when the coupling plates (64 and 65) are brought close to each other.
Abstract: A carrying apparatus for supporting a ski binding toe piece and heel piece on a ski, the carrying apparatus having a length-adjustable coupling member arranged between a front support member and a rear support member. The carrying apparatus is easily mountable to the ski and is adaptable to accommodate numerous ski boot sizes.

Abstract: A jet injector system for injecting fluid into a body. The jet injection system includes capsules for holding the material to be injected, apparatus for applying force to the capsule(s) to eject the injection material(s) and a perforator for directing the jet stream for the respective materials into the body. A flyweight system is described for developing jet injection pressures, and latching devices control the flyweight system. An injector system for injecting more than one fluid is described.

Abstract: A method of, and apparatus for, preventing the formation of deposits on surfaces downstream of a mixer in which possibly supersaturated mixtures issuing from the mixer are surrounded by a sheath of unsaturated solution. In an arrangement described, the sheath of unsaturated mixture is obtained by bleeding off some of the mixture issuing from the mixer sufficiently downstream of the mixer definitely to be unsaturated and returning this portion of the mixture to surround that issuing from the mixer.
Abstract: In a container for feeding a stick type cosmetic material which houses the stick type cosmetic material in such a manner that the material can be fed, a cylinder (9) is unrotatably housed in a main body of the container (3) and also a plurality of projections (7) provided at an outer circumference of a push rod (6) are engaged with spiral grooves (11) provided at an inner circumference of the cylinder (9). A cosmetic material (5) is held by a plurality of claws (4a) which are provided at a front end of the push rod (6). Projections (7a) which have advanced upward and got out of the cylinder (9) are engaged with grooves (8) in which the claws (4a) slide and a whirl of a front cylinder (2) and the push rod (6) is stopped. A stopper (10) is provided at a lower end of the push rod (6).
