Abstract: An optical element for a motor vehicle windshield comprises, in combination, an interference filter having one or more light-reflecting metal layers and one or more reflection-suppressing layers for coacting with the one or more metal layers to minimize reflection and enhance transmission in the visible region, a gradient band continuation of the interference filter above the direct line of forward vision through a windshield when disposed in a motor vehicle for reflective rejection of solar energy, such band including a light-reflecting metal layer gradually increasing in thickness toward a lateral edge of the band and an anti-glare backing behind the gradient band for suppressing luminous reflection from within the motor vehicle when the optical element is disposed in the windshield.
Abstract: A transparent polymeric laminate of plasticized polyvinyl butyral sheet chemically linked by urethane groups to a thermoset polyurethane layer formed as the reaction product of a cross-linkable mixture containing diisocyanate and polyether polyol containing primary or secondary hydroxyl groups and having a molecular weight between about 250 to about 8000.
Abstract: Curable epoxy systems comprising polyglycidamides and epoxy reactants. The polyglycidamides are hydroxy functional polyglycidamides derived from amino resins. The epoxy systems can be used as laminating, encapsulating and coating resins. When the epoxy reactant is an anhydride, cure under ambient conditions is obtained.
Abstract: Hydroxy functional acrylamido amino resins comprising hydroxy-hydrocarbyl groups. The resins are produced by reaction of alkoxymethyl amino resins with acrylamide to introduce acrylamidomethyl groups and then with a polyol to introduce hydroxy functionality. The hydroxy functional acrylamido amino resins may be epoxidized to form polyglycidamides which can then be formulated with epoxy reactants to provide curable epoxy systems.
Abstract: Thermoplastic polyblends having weatherability and impact strength are formed by blending a first graft copolymer containing a conjugated diene rubber substrate having a weight average particle size between about 0.6 and about 10 microns with a second graft copolymer containing an EPDM-type rubber substrate having a weight average particle size between about 0.05 and about 1 micron or an alkyl acylate rubber substrate having a weight average particle size between about 0.05 and about 0.5 micron. The superstrate of the two graft copolymers comprises a monovinylidene aromatic hydrocarbon and an unsaturated nitrile.

Abstract: Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) resin lightly cross-linked through stable intermolecular linkages developed, for example, through use of a dialdehyde or trialdehyde, to selectively increase PVB molecular weight and the modulus of a plasticized sheet formed therefrom intended for use in laminated safety glass assemblies.
Abstract: Metal drier compositions comprising at least one soluble compound of niobium, zirconium, titanium, tungsten, or aluminum used in coating compositions of free radical polymerizable compounds to extend pot life and lower propensity to yellowing of the dried composition.
Abstract: Polymers comprising units of diesters of cyclopentane diol vinylene prepared by metathesis ring opening polymerization of diesters of norbornene diol exhibiting a glass transition temperature of at least 100.degree. C. are useful as engineering thermoplastics.
Abstract: Polymers comprising units of norbornene diol vinylene are prepared by hydrolysis of precursor polymer comprising units of norbornene diol ester vinylene or norbornene dioxocarbonyl vinylene in the presence of an alkaline agent.
Abstract: Dispersions of core-shell polymers in caprolactam solutions of telechelic polymers capable of being polymerized to form rubber-modified nylon-6 block copolymers having improved impact strength wherein the core-shell polymer comprises a cross-linked elastomer core and a hard thermoplastic polymer shell and wherein the telechelic polymers preformed or formed in situ, are capped with lactam polymerization initiator groups.
Abstract: A method of forming polymers containing .alpha.-methylstyrene and acrylonitrile by polymerizing, preferably continuously, under off-azeotrope conditions to vastly improve rate without substantially changing the content of .alpha.-methylstyrene in the polymer being formed from that obtained under azeotrope conditions.

Abstract: Polyimide laminates are prepared from solutions of maleimide resins comprising a mixture of maleimides and maleamic acids, e.g., greater than about 45% bismaleimide and up to about 40% bis-maleamic acid and a stabilizing amount of polyamine. The bismaleimide is preferably derived from 2,2-bis[4-(4-aminophenoxy)phenyl] propane.
Abstract: Resin systems cured with blocked acid catalysts formed by reaction of sulfonic acids with glycidamides. The blocked acids are used as catalysts and provide viscosity stability and pot life without significant decrease in catalytic activity in comparison with the corresponding free sulfonic acids.
