Abstract: A device for determining the melting point of a sample material utilizing an infrared sensor to measure the temperature of the sample material and photocells to detect changes in transmissivity of the sample material at its melting point.
Abstract: Disclosed is an eye protection device for the enclosure of eyeglasses therein, such device having a resilient cushion member which extends rearwardly therefrom to form an upper portion and a lower portion and first and second sides, such device having lens openings provided in the cushion member, with the wearer's eyeglasses fitting within grooves and a bridge slot formed within such cushion member, such device having hard side members attached to the first and second sides of the cushion member, and with such resilient cushion member's upper and lower portions and first and second sides contacting the wearer's face.
Abstract: A disposable cutting board is disclosed having a tough plastic upper sheet and a lower base made of papier-mâché. In use, when the upper sheet is pierced, liquid from the food being cut thereon passes through such cuts in the plastic sheet to the base, causing the papier-mâché base to disintegrate and rendering the cutting board unusable. The user is thus encouraged to dispose of the cutting board.
Abstract: A therapeutic stimulatory massage apparatus for receipt therein of a body portion, such apparatus containing a thixotropic fluid medium subject to selective increase in viscosity and increase in pressure at such areas of increased viscosity. Also, other therapeutic modes can be incorporated into the device of this invention.
Abstract: An array of stabilizing devices for disposition under an object, each device having a base and a central upright, hollow, frusto-conical structure with a retention arm adjustably positioned within the top thereof. The object to be retained is positioned on portions of the bases of the devices, and the retention arm of each device is positioned over a portion of the object, such array to aid in retaining the object in an upright position.
Abstract: An improved structure for a motor vehicle and method of construction comprising surrounding the outer portion of a motor vehicle with an outer shell, an inner shell disposed away from the outer shell and a plurality of airbag-like structures positioned between the inner shell and outer shell to provide a resilient, impact-resistant portion of the motor vehicle.
Abstract: A medication dispensing system and method utilizing a dispensing tube on a therapist's hand for receiving medicated and non-medicated fluids, lotions and gels from a reservoir to be disposed onto a patient by manual contact by the therapist is disclosed.
Abstract: A golf putting practice device having a rectangular guide housing within which a cylinder can be moved back and forth by attachment with a putter shaft, such movement being in a straight line to guide the putter shaft. A striker is attached to an end of the cylinder to hit a golf ball.
Abstract: An electric-powered scooter is disclosed having a chassis with a platform upon which the rider stands, a front wheel mounted to provide steering control and a rear wheel rotatably mounted at the rear section of the chassis. A pedal is pivotably mounted at the rear section of the chassis and is attached to the motor and drive wheel. The pedal, in an inactive position, holds such drive wheel in a position where it does not contact the rear wheel. When the pedal is depressed by the foot of the rider, the motor is turned on and the drive wheel contacts the rear wheel, propelling the scooter forward. When released, the pedal returns automatically by spring means to its inactive position, breaking the contact of the rear wheel with the drive wheel, and automatically turning the motor off.
Abstract: A method is disclosed of improving the structural integrity of a motor vehicle by providing one or more inflated bags within open spaces within the structural framework of such vehicle which inflated bags provide impact cushioning to such vehicle.
Abstract: A craft that includes superconductive materials that are supported within the geomagnetic field of the earth by means of the Meissner effect. The craft is propelled by means of directing a current from a point to another therein which creates a propelling force thereon within such magnetic field as determined by the right-hand motor rule.
Abstract: A nesting structure for earth-burrowing birds is disclosed which provides spaces above ground for multiple pairs of these colonial underground nesting birds to build their nests in. The structure provides an extensive upright face of earthen color and texture, suggestive of the natural exposed vertical riverbanks and similar upright earth forms which attract these birds. Openings in the upright face allow birds to pass through ready-made protective artificial nesting tunnels, leading back from the front face, into enlarged artificial nesting chambers at the rear of the nesting structure. These individual nesting chambers, arranged in orderly fashion, are accessible through resealable doors. This access permits convenient, effortless, non-disruptive inspection, management and research of the nestings of those birds whose nests have been, until now, inaccessibly and randomly dug underground.
Abstract: X-ray protective eyewear is disclosed having dual lenses disposed within channels in each lens receipt area of the eyewear, the foremost lenses being transparent radiation-blocking lenses and the rearmost lenses being made of a plastic corrective or non-corrective lenses, as desired.
Abstract: A portable fire extinguisher of the type utilizing a rotating Bourdon coiled tubing valve gauge having a reflective portion and a non-reflective portion with a beam transmitted at a portion of such coiled tubing such that when the gauge has rotated to indicate that the pressure in the fire extinguisher tank has dropped below a predetermined level, there is a corresponding change in the reflective state of the coiled tubing which changes the reflection of the beam, such change in reflection being sensed and processed. The resultant signal can be directed through telephone lines to a remote location where such fire extinguisher's condition is identified for servicing.
Abstract: A suture assembly made of bioabsorbable material is disclosed having a central body member with a plurality of elongated lateral members extending therefrom, each lateral member having body tissue retention means such as provided from a plurality of barb members extending at an acute angle therefrom and/or an adhesive disposed thereon. The lateral members are inserted laterally into the two sides of a cut in body tissue, such lateral members each drawn into place, in one embodiment, by its attached thread member which is connected to a needle member at the end thereof. Also disclosed is a method for utilizing the suture assembly of this invention.
Abstract: A suture for joining the first and second sides of a cut in body tissue, such suture having an elongated body member with a needle and thread member disposed at one end thereof and retention structure which can include adhesive to retain such body member when drawn into place in the body tissue.
