Abstract: Novel tricyclic 1,3-dioxanes based on the skeleton of 1,1-dimethyloctalin or 1,1-dimethyldecalin and their use as perfume components is disclosed.
Abstract: A novel technique for the preparation of 4-hydroxy-5-alkyl-3-oxo-2H-furans is disclosed wherein the reaction product of an alpha-alkyl diglycolic acid diester and an oxalic acid diester is cyclized, hydrolyzed and decarboxylated. Alternatively, the corresponding 2,5-dialkyl product can be prepared by an intermediate alkylation step.
Abstract: Alpha, beta-dialkyl conjugated nitriles are disclosed which have interesting perfumistic qualities. These materials have the general structural formula ##STR1## where R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of about 1 to 15 carbon atoms having no unsaturation in conjugated relationship with either the nitrile unsaturation or the alpha, beta-olefinic unsaturation, and R' and R" are the same or different aliphatic hydrocarbon radicals meeting the description of R, or R' and R", taken together, form a cycloaliphatic radical having about 6 to 15 carbon atoms. They are produced by the reaction of the appropriate aliphatic nitrile and ketone under the influence of a basic catalyst.
Abstract: Coated bottles are disclosed having a coating comprised of an elastomeric blend of polypropylene with a hydrocarbon elastomer. The coating is adhered loosely to the bottle so that, upon rupture of the glass, it forms an envelope to contain glass fragments.
Abstract: Products having high absorbency for use in absorbent dressings and the like are prepared by precipitating a water-insoluble but water-swellable superabsorbent polymer onto the surface of a long fiber cellulose from an aqueous slurry and drying the resulting coated fibers by dehydration with a water-miscible nonsolvent for the polymer.
Abstract: Gels are prepared utilizing hydroxypropyl cellulose as the solid matrix phase and a mixture of a linear polyol, a perfume oil and optionally a hydroxypropyl cellulose solvent as the liquid phase.

Alternatively, the corresponding 2,5-dialkyl product can be prepared by an intermediate alkylation step.
Abstract: Heavy duty, non-built liquid detergents are disclosed in which the anti-redeposition additive is benzyl hydroxyethyl cellulose or phenylhydroxyethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose.
Abstract: New chemical compounds are disclosed having the general formula ##STR1## where X and Y are oxygen or sulfur and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are hydrogen or lower alkyl groups. The compounds are useful in a variety of flavoring applications.
Abstract: Novel thioether compounds are disclosed which are useful as flavoring materials to enhance or impart meat-like flavors to foodstuffs. These compounds have the general formula ##STR1## where X can be, under specified conditions, --CH.sub.2 --, oxygen, or sulfur, Y can be oxygen or sulfur and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, and R.sub.4 are hydrogen or 1 to 3 carbon alkyl groups.

Abstract: An improvement in perfumed bleach solutions which comprises employing a quaternary ammonium salt as an inert dispersing agent for the perfume oil.
Abstract: Dihydroxypropyl ethers of cellulose are disclosed which are characterized by having a dihydroxypropyl M.S. of at least about 1.4 which are water-soluble and thermoplastic. These materials form complexes with borate and antimonate ions having unique and useful properties.
Abstract: Perfumed composites of ethylene and polar monomer copolymers, such as vinyl acetate and ethyl acrylate, are disclosed. Shaped bodies prepared from such composites faithfully retain the fragrance of the perfume oil for periods up to a year and more.
Abstract: New chemical compounds are disclosed having the general formula ##STR1## wherein X is oxygen, sulfur, or methylene and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3, are hydrogen or lower alkyl groups. These compounds are useful in a variety of flavoring applications.
Abstract: Improvements in ceramic wall and floor tiles are effected by incorporating therein as a water retention aid phenyl hydroxyethyl cellulose-hydroxyethyl cellulose, benzyl hydroxyethyl cellulose or ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose having specified substitution levels.
Abstract: Perfume compositions are disclosed containing, as an odorant, propene trimer alcohols or esters of such alcohols with 1 to 4 carbon monocarboxylic acids.
Abstract: New compounds having the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a hydrocarbon moiety having from 1 to 7 carbon toms, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, and R.sub.3 is hydrogen, formyl or acetyl. The compounds are useful in the preparation, modification and intensification of a great variety of flavor and perfume compositions.
