  • Patent number: 8287124
Abstract: The invention generally relates to a lens and the method of manufacturing progressive addition lenses (PAL) to remove unwanted base out prism and minimize excessive convergence, comprising determining basic configuration of two major lens surfaces to provide a distance portion and near portion, wherein diopter power increases from the distance portion of the lens to the near portion; selecting an amount of prism reduction; and reducing base out prism that inherently occurs as diopter power increases by altering the configuration of the lens as a function of the amount of prism reduction to minimize any disruption of optical properties a lens while decreasing base out prism.

  • Patent number: 8288837
Abstract: A semiconductor radiation detector comprises a bulk layer of semiconductor material, and on a first surface of the bulk layer in the following order: a modified internal gate layer of semiconductor of second conductivity type, a barrier layer of semiconductor of first conductivity type and pixel dopings of semiconductor of the second conductivity type. The pixel dopings are adapted to be coupled to at least one pixel voltage in order to create pixels corresponding to pixel dopings. The device comprises a first conductivity type first contact. Said pixel voltage is defined as a potential difference between the pixel doping and the first contact. The bulk layer is of the first conductivity type. On a second surface of the bulk layer opposite to the first surface, there is nonconductive back side layer that would transport secondary charges outside the active area of the device or function as the radiation entry window.

  • Patent number: 8281976
Abstract: A method for forming a multi-component composite metallic tube, in particular, a bi-component metallic tube, comprises the steps of forming a coextrudable, multi-component billet including an inner component formed from a first metallic material, and an outer component formed from a second metallic material. Notably, explosive bonding is employed for bonding the first and second components to form a metallurgical bond at the interface thereof, thus forming the desired multi-component billet. The multi-component billet is subsequently heated, and coextruded to form a multi-component tubular structure, having a metallurgical bond at an interface between inner and outer layers of the composite metallic tube.

  • Patent number: 8272323
Abstract: An adjustable stamp for stamping characters on a workpiece, including a base plate with a platen, a plurality of stamps each having a raised character on one side, a stamp holder, and a support securing the stamps to the holder in an array while allowing limited free motion of the stamps relative to each other in the stamping and retract directions. The support is mounted to the base plate for movement in a plane substantially perpendicular to the stamping direction to selectively position one of the stamps over the platen. The base plate and the workpiece may be pressed together, whereby the raised character of the one stamp is stamped into the workpiece by the platen pressing against the opposite side of the one stamp, with the free motion of the other stamps preventing their raised characters from being stamped into the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 8274803
Abstract: A variable frequency drive comprises a diode rectifier receiving multiphase AC power from a source and converting the AC power to DC power. An inverter receives DC power and converts the DC power to AC power to drive a load. A link circuit is connected between the diode rectifier and the inverter and comprises a DC bus to provide a relatively fixed DC voltage for the inverter. A bus capacitor is across the bus. A soft charge circuit limits inrush current to the bus capacitor. The soft charge circuit comprises an inductor connected between the source and the link circuit and a switch circuit in the link circuit for selectively providing a semiconverter configuration or a full bridge converter configuration to provide two stage charging of the bus capacitor.

  • Patent number: 8274022
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide an induction heater and an induction heating method capable of heating by induction a work in which a gear portion and a shaft are integrated. An induction heater for a gear portion and a stepped shaft is arranged in such a manner that a first heating coil (annular coil) surrounds the gear portion and that a second heating coil (linear coil) faces the stepped shaft in an axial direction. Alternating currents of different frequencies are supplied to the first heating coil 1 and the second heating coil. Further, a part of the second heating coil is arranged so as to come opposite a boundary between the gear portion and the stepped shaft, thereby connecting a hardened pattern of the gear portion by the first heating coil and a hardened pattern of the stepped shaft by the second heating coil.
