  • Patent number: 4029582
Abstract: A semipermeable polymeric membrane which essentially consists of modified poly (arylether-sulfone) having halomethyl groups and/or quaternized nitrogen atom-bearing groups. The membrane can be prepared by casting the polymer solution in a selected solvent or a mixture of suitable solvents on a surface, evaporating a portion of the solvent, and immersing the resulting film into a suitable non-solvent. The membrane is excellent in performance, such as water flux, and permeation selectivity, so that it can be used as a reverse osmosis membrane, an ultrafiltration membrane, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4027684
Abstract: A permanent-wave or water-wave curler having an elongated cylindrical curler body with at least one holding body arranged at one end coaxially of the curler body axis. The holding body is greater in diameter than the curler body and has two axially spaced and radially extending flanges. The flanges have a resilient characteristic and substantially equal diameters to thereby define an annular groove therebetween. At least one of the flanges has a thickness slightly larger than the axial spacing between the two flanges so that when the one flange is inserted under force into a groove of an adjacent curler, the flanges on the adjacent curler will flex to permit entry of the one flange therebetween and effect a friction holding of the one flange against a rotation relative to the two flanges defining the groove.

  • Patent number: 4028000
Abstract: Resilient drive means for a helicopter rotor blade. The rotor blade is pivotally supported on a stub shaft which is in turn supported on the rotor hub. First means are fixed to the rotor blade and second means fixed to the stub shaft with resilient and adjustable means positioned therebetween for controlling the angular relationship between the rotor blade and the stub shaft. In this embodiment, said first means comprise a shoulder which projects from the rotor blade and the second means comprise a rectangular hollow frame which is fixed to the stub shaft. The shoulder projects into the hollow frame. Threaded means acting through resilient means holds the first and second means in selected pivotal adjustment with respect to each other but the resilient component thereof permits sufficient slight lead lag movement therebetween as to effect damping of the lead lag mode of the rotorblade.

  • Patent number: 4028164
Abstract: An improved process, and the apparatus for carrying out the process, of forming an elongated hollow body from fibre-reinforced synthetic resins. A plurality of resin impregnated support fibres are positioned over and extend longitudinally along a rotating mandrel, which support fibres are fed from a feed station having a plurality of spools thereon, which feed station rotates synchronously with the mandrel. The longitudinal support fibres form a fibrous substructure which rotates with the mandrel. A plurality of fibrous elements, also resin impregnated, are wrapped around the fibrous substructure to form the hollow body. The hollow body is gripped by a clamping device disposed at the discharge end of the rotating mandrel for pulling the hollow body and thereby displacing same longitudinally along the mandrel, which clamping structure simultaneously permits rotation of the hollow body with the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4026533
Abstract: An adjustable energy absorber including a housing having a ram slidably extending therefrom. A first control sleeve divides the housing into a pair of fluid chambers, which sleeve has an axially extending row of openings to provide communication between the two chambers. A second control sleeve surrounds the first sleeve and is nonrotatably connected thereto. The first and second sleeves have compatible outer and inner conical surfaces, respectively. The first and second sleeves are axially adjustable with respect to one another to form a narrow flow passage between the opposed conical surfaces. Imposition of a force on the ram causes fluid to be forced from one chamber through the openings into the flow passage, and then into the other chamber. By varying the width of the flow passage, as by axially moving one control sleeve relative to the other, the amount of energy absorbed by the fluid during the movement of the ram can be selectably adjusted.

  • Patent number: 4026396
Abstract: Pressure fluid control for a transmission. There is provided a pressure fluid control device for a transmission, particularly applicable to use in fork lift trucks, wherein a suitable hydraulic selector receives pressure medium from a pressure creating device such as a pump and directs same through a pressure regulating valve to a selected one of the transmission clutches or couplings. Particularly the pressure regulating valve is arranged in a rotary slide valve of the hydraulic selector and is arranged to respond to a piston energized by brake pressure fluid. Thus by the use of very simple apparatus the first portion of a brake pedal movement is utilized to disengage a transmission.

  • Patent number: 4026325
Abstract: A miniature four-way valve, particularly for the control of a pressurized gas, such as air, constructed and arranged so that it can be made in small sizes without excessive expense while being reliable, sturdy and resistive to damage. The valve includes a housing having ports formed therein which accommodate conventional conduits of rather large size, which ports communicate with a central passage containing therein a slidable valve plunger of extremely small size. The inlet port communicates with a chamber disposed in surrounding relationship to the valve plunger, which chamber is defined between a pair of opposed tapered walls having a concave configuration. These walls function as valve seats and coact with a resilient seal ring secured to the valve plunger for creating a sealing engagement similar to a poppet valve.

  • Patent number: 4026093
Abstract: Hay-raking machine having a plurality of raking means rotatable on vertical axes. The invention relates to the type of hay rake having a plurality, as four, vertically rotatable raking devices supported by ground wheels and connectible to a tractor, as by a conventional three-point attachment means. Frame structure for supporting said raking devices provides for convenient and efficient positioning by an operator without his leaving the tractor seat for adjusting the raking means through a plurality of desired operating positions as well as for moving the raking means into an appropriately compact position for transport of same. Positive drive means are provided for driving from the power output shaft of the tractor for driving said rakes, same being arranged, however, so as to not inhibit moving said rakes into a compact body for transport purposes and at the same time when said rakes are so positioned, to terminate the driving thereof.

  • Patent number: 4027236
Abstract: A portable test instrument for testing electrical continuity, and diode polarity, AC and DC voltage amplitudes and DC voltage polarity. An electronic switch device has main electrodes connected in an indicating circuit with an electrical supply, a light-emitting diode and a current-limiting resistor. A double pole, double throw switch is manually switchable between continuity and voltage test positions, and with four resistors defines an input circuit interposed between the control electrode of the electronic switch device and probes connectible to a circuit or the like to be tested.
