  • Patent number: 6284001
Abstract: A method is provided for implanting a joint prosthesis for a damaged joint, wherein the steps include removing the damaged joint and initially anchoring two stem members into adjacent bones and inserting a temporary occupier at the joint location between the two stem members. The occupier is configured to allow only limited movement of the bones having the stem members. After the area around the occupier has healed, the occupier is removed and a specially configured ball and socket is installed as the joint to allow for incremental adjustments of the ball and socket relative to the two stem members during the installation procedure to simulate the natural bending motion of the joint once healed.

  • Patent number: 6265035
Abstract: A multi-piece ornament includes an outer frame, a design piece and a negative. The design piece, negative, and frame are cut from a flat blank of material in nested, preferably concentric fashion so there is little or no waste in material. The design piece is cut from within the negative and removed therefrom to define an ornamental design cutout in the negative. The three pieces may be arranged separately or in different combinations to form a hanging ornament, for example wherein the design piece is suspended within the frame and the negative and the frame are suspended one from the other. The three pieces may alternatively be affixed to a plaque or other display surface with the design piece within and surrounded by the frame, and the negative outside of and adjacent the frame.

  • Patent number: 6261116
Abstract: A connector position assurance (CPA) element and lock arm structure for mating connector housings in which the CPA element has three-stage insertion and two-stage withdrawal with complementary locking and release-preventing engagement with the lock arm and connector housing in each of the positions. The CPA element is first inserted partway underneath the lock arm on the first housing to a pre-set position in which it is not easily removed from the housing. The connector with the pre-set CPA element is next inserted into a second connector housing, in which the CPA element is released from the pre-set position to a pre-locked position. The CPA element can then be fully inserted underneath the lock arm from the pre-locked position to a fully-locked position in which it provides both a visual indication of complete connector mating and strengthens the locking engagement between the connector housings.

  • Patent number: 6262372
Abstract: An electrical terminal such as that used in a multi-pin connector has a layer of positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material incorporated therein such that the terminal also serves as a circuit over-current protection device. In a first embodiment, a surface of the terminal is covered by a layer of PTC material such that when the terminal is engaged with a mating terminal, the PTC material is interposed between the surfaces of the mated terminals to create a PTC device. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, a terminal includes a contact portion for making electrical connection with a mating terminal, a wire connection portion for connection to a wire, and a layer of PTC material interposed between adjacent surfaces of the contact portion and wire connection portion. The invention terminals provide over-current protection to a circuit without the need for soldering or otherwise connecting a separate PTC device into the circuit.
