  • Patent number: 6257189
Abstract: A valve lifter guide for internal combustion engines for preventing rotation of the valve lifters. The guide consists of an elongated support which is affixed to an internal combustion engine block, and spaced resilient cantilever supported fingers extending from the support have a free end which engages an orientation flat surface on the valve lifter and prevents valve lifter rotation. The resiliency of the fingers simplifies installation of the guide and assures engagement of the guide fingers with the lifter flat surface. An embodiment includes alignment features to facilitate assembly of the valve push rods.

  • Patent number: 6253626
Abstract: A transducer body having a traditional single-axis envelope capable of multi-axis measurements. The transducer body includes coaxial base ends with an intermediate flexure element in the form of a ring having an internally centered stiffening web which reduces deflection and localizes strain for accurate high-capacity single-axis load measurements, as well as for bending and shear. The invention further includes a novel arrangement of strain gages on the transducer body, preferably including three sets: strain gages on the stiffening web to measure single-axis loading along the longitudinal axis of the transducer body; bending measurement strain gages spaced at 45° around the periphery of the ring element; and shear measurement strain gages located at 90° locations on the periphery of the ring.

  • Patent number: 6254968
Abstract: Conventional plastic mouldings with several fields of which at least one is laminated with a covering material are produced in a single operation. In order to prevent the covering material from becoming warped in the laminated region, the plastic substrate of the known plastic part is injected into all fields under a low pressure, to the detriment under certain conditions of the quality of the blank fields. The invention therefore proposes to produce during one step the plastic substrate of the blank field from plastics injected under high pressure, and to produce the plastic substrate of the laminated field during another step from plastics injected under a relatively low pressure. Also disclosed is a corresponding moulding tool for producing the disclosed plastic moulding in a conventional press.

  • Patent number: 6250290
Abstract: A fuel rail for the distribution of fuel is disclosed. The fuel rail includes an extending primary conduit having a first open end for receiving fuel and a second open end for returning fuel. The primary conduit has a plurality of ports for injector cups disposed in spaced intervals between the two ends. The fuel rail further includes a secondary conduit extending over a portion of the primary conduit. The secondary conduit is closed at its ends to form a cavity between the portion of primary conduit and the secondary conduit. Fluid communicates between the primary conduit and the cavity through small apertures disposed in the portion of the primary conduit. A vapor fuel return conduit is selectively opened to the cavity when the fuel reaches a predetermined temperature. When the fuel return conduit is opened to the cavity, the increase in volume of the fuel rail causes some of the liquid fuel in the primary conduit to change to vapor as it goes through the small apertures.

  • Patent number: 6243962
Abstract: Apparatus for forming and measuring a bore includes a rotating shaft with one or more metal cutting tools disposed on a cutting head and a non-contact, pneumatic gaging device mounted on the shaft for rotation therewith. The measuring device is advanced into the bore formed by the tools so that it measures the inner diameter of the bore as the rotating shaft is advanced into the bore during the cutting stroke. Accordingly, a single stroke of the boring apparatus serves both to form a desired internal diameter and to measure the diameter formed during the cutting stroke. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the tools are held by a positioning device which allow the tools to be moved radially with respect to the shaft so that the diameter of the bore formed by the tools may be varied. If the measured diameter deviates from the desired diameter, the positioning means repositions the tools as necessary to achieve the desired bore diameter on a subsequent cutting stroke.

  • Patent number: 6241294
Abstract: A door handle assembly for a motor vehicle which acts to preclude inadvertent unlatching of the door in response to a side impact. The door handle assembly includes a housing and a handle member mounted for pivotal movement on the housing between latched and unlatched positions. An electromagnetic device is mounted on the housing and acts upon energization in response to receipt of an impact signal to preclude movement of the handle to its unlatched position. In one embodiment, the electromagnetic device comprises a solenoid having a plunger which lockingly coacts with detent structure on an arm of the handle in response to a sensed impact. In a second embodiment, the electromagnetic device comprises an electromagnet having a core which coacts upon energization with an armature carried by an arm of the handle to create a magnetic flux force field to preclude handle movement.
