  • Patent number: 5328618
Abstract: A lubricant has the formula X:Y, wherein X is a layered material selected from the group consisting of layered transition metal dichalcogenides and graphite. Y is a magnetic inclusion between layers of X. The lubricant is made by adding X to a solution containing ions of Y. The solution is continuously mixed and dried. The Y is then reduced to a metallic form.

  • Patent number: 5279805
Abstract: Hydrogen and gaseous hydrocarbons are stored by introducing the gases into a transition metal dichalcogenide having the formula MX.sub.2. M is selected from the group consisting of Mo, W and Ti and X is selected from the group consisting of S and Se. The MX.sub.2 is in the form of platelets affixed to basal planes of adjacent platelets. The basal planes of adjacent platelets are separated by voids. The composition is prepared by intercalating MX.sub.2 powder with lithium, adding water to separate the MX.sub.2 into single layers and then adding acid to adjust the pH to a range where edges and basal planes of the single layers have opposite charges. Preferably a catalyst is added to the MX.sub.2, the catalyst being selected from the group of metals consisting of Pt, Pd, Ni, Co, Fe, Mg, Zr, Cr, Al, Zn, Mn or combinations thereof. The gas can be recovered from the composition by heating to a temperature of 250.degree. C. when the catalyst is used.

  • Patent number: 5205527
Abstract: A rack and method for retaining reading materials while allowing them to be read. The rack has an upwardly slanted face having support structures at the top and bottom of the rack face. The support structures have walls extending from the rack face with a plurality of apertures or slots facing each other so that rigid ribs may be placed between the pages of the reading materials and into opposing slots in the walls. The ribs are longer than the distance between an unslotted side of the bottom support structure and the slotted side of the top support structure such that the ribs are retained within the slots when gravity carries them to the bottom of the bottom support structure. The top support structure is wider than the bottom support structure so that the ribs are shorter than the distance between an unslotted side of the top support structure and the slotted side of the bottom support structure.

  • Patent number: 5182509
Abstract: A conditioning and charging circuit for NiCd battries includes a switch for initially connecting the battery to a discharge resistor to discharge the battery. The battery voltage is monitored during the discharge. When the battery voltage falls to predetermined value, a timer is triggered and the switch is actuated to connect the battery to a charger. The charger charges the battery until the timer times out after a predetermined period, at which point charging is terminated. The predetermined period may be fixed, or it may be a function of ambient temperature. Thus, the battery is first discharged to a predetermined voltage and then charged for a predetermined period of time.

  • Patent number: 4942806
Abstract: A vehicular internal air exhausting device being accomplished by an air exhausting assembly and a power source supply assembly. The air exhausting assembly is mounted on the trunk compartment top plate behind the rear seat or any other suitable place of a vehicle, comprising of a bottom plate which unites all relative components and is positioned fixedly in using place, a motor seat which fixes a motor united with air-extracting blades, and a housing shell for enclosure of the motor and air-extracting blades and union with the bottom plate. When a vehicle is parked under sunlight in hot day, the solar power-collecting plate provided on the roof top of the vehicle will automatically generate light-electricity effects to charge the storage battery of the vehicle and with the electricity power of which the air exhausting assembly will be activated to eliminate the heated internal air out of the vehicle, making the temperature inside equal to the outside.

  • Patent number: 4929120
Abstract: An asphalt-paved road surface is rejuvenated in two stages. First, an exposed upper asphalt layer is heated to a selected temperature and depth. The heated upper asphalt layer is then removed from the road surface to expose a lower asphalt layer. In the second stage of the process, the lower asphalt layer is heated to a selected temperature and depth. The lower layer is then either broken up and left in place, or else it too is removed from the road surface. In the former case, asphalt removed from the upper layer is replaced on top of the ruptured lower layer; in the latter case, asphalt removed from the upper layer is comingled with asphalt removed from the lower layer. The removed/ruptured or comingled asphalt (as the case may be) is then pressed back against the road surface to repave the road.

  • Patent number: 4919315
Abstract: An apparatus for automatically finishing pantyhose includes pairs of pattern frames on which a pair of pantyhose are fitted and which are respectively mounted on a revolving ring plate which stops at stations for pantyhose inspection, drying, and pulling-out. At the inspection station, the pattern frames are lifted by an elevating device and their width is increased for inspection of the pantyhose. At the drying station, they are dried and set to the shape of the widened pattern frames by an infrared heater. At the pulling-out station, a device clamps their toe portion and pulls them into a folding device, a lowering device lowers the pattern frames and narrows their widths, and a tucking-up device is lifted so as to raise the mouth portion of the pantyhose. The folding device folds them in two before they are forwarded to a packaging station.

  • Patent number: 4708798
Abstract: An endless filter belt is guided and supported by rollers or non-rotatable guide bars so as to have an upper run which extends above a substantially horizontal drainage plate to which a vacuum may be applied to draw liquid downwards therethrough. The upper run of the belt is shaped by movable guide means, e.g. pivotal arms which raise and lower the respective ends of the upper run and elements which depress a central region of the upper run into contact with the drainage plate, so as to form a receptacle into which a batch of material to be filtered can be placed. After filtration, when vacuum is no longer applied to the plate, the belt is progressed and any filter cake is removed at another location, a fresh section of belt then being available to form another receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4694916
Abstract: A continuous coring drill bit having a body forming external lands for support of cutting elements such as industrial diamonds and grooves for conducting drilling fluid during drilling. The body further forms an internal cavity receiving a tubular core breaker in freely rotatable relation therein and also forms a central throat receiving a core as the drilling operation continues. The core breaker is provided with an internal buttress and is eccentrically mounted within the body such that rotation of the body induces lateral oscillation of the buttress causing it to fracture the core into small sections. By reverse circulation the core sections are transported upwardly through the drill string to the surface for separation from the drilling fluid and analysis by geologists.
