Abstract: An improved starter pull cord for an internal combustion engine having significantly increased stiffness, resistance to wear, and strength, the starter pull cord being comprised of rope having high modulus fibers selected from the group consisting of liquid crystal polymer (LCP), aramid, and high-modulus polyethylene (HMPE). The higher stiffness of the high modulus starter pull cords of the present invention translates to greater impetus during the act of pull starting the engine, which is apt to start more quickly than with starter pull cords of the prior art. The increased strength of the high modulus starter pull cords translates to fewer breakages over the lifetime of an engine and therefore increased reliability.
Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention, a method for manufacturing a pattern of conductive elements on a substrate is provided. The method includes depositing in a vacuum deposition chamber an electrically conductive material onto the substrate to form a base layer. Then, the method includes selectively applying an electric insulating agent on selective areas of the base layer. Then, areas of the base layer that are not covered with the insulating material are electroplated with a second electrically conductive layer. The electric insulating agent is then removed from the substrate and the base layer is chemically etched thus removing the base layer that was covered with the insulating material and selectively exposing the substrate to create the pattern of conductive objects on the substrate.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus, media, signals and programs for managing energy supplied by an energy supply are disclosed. One such apparatus includes an energy accumulation device, which includes an energy accumulator and a controller configured to place the energy accumulator in electrical communication with the energy supply and with a load. The apparatus further includes an energy transfer device in communication with the energy accumulation device and with the energy supply and configured to transfer accumulated energy from the energy accumulator to the energy supply.
Abstract: A wireless communication device receives CDMA signals and communicates with remote base stations in site selection diversity transmit (SSDT) mode. During communications with a primary base station, communication state parameters, such as signal to interference ratio (SIR) target values and carrier frequency estimates, are maintained for other base stations of an active set of base stations. The state parameters for communications with a selected base station are available for use after selection of a new base station. In one embodiment, the communication state parameters are used for the selection of a base from the active set.
Abstract: Medicinal applicator suitable for delivering medicinal material in a measured dose and concentration to a body cavity, having an elongate support body with an external surface and a blunt distal end to facilitate insertion into a body cavity and a support element receiving zone located towards the distal end for receiving the support element. The support element receiving zone is configured to receive a correspondingly shaped support element for carrying medicinal material, whereby upon insertion of the elongate body into the body cavity, medicinal material supported on the support element located in the receiving zone is released to a desired location within the cavity.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus including a scanning unit to scan an image and to output corresponding digital color coordinates; a determining unit to determine a local color gamut including the digital color coordinates, based on a reference matrix computed from a standard color gamut, which includes the local color gamut, and the plurality of digital color coordinates; a matrix selecting unit to select a color conversion matrix that corresponds to the determined local color gamut; and a computing unit to compute LAB color coordinates based on the selected color conversion matrix and the digital color coordinates. A method of color conversion using the image forming apparatus is also provided.

Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention, a method for manufacturing an array of radio frequency identification (RFID) antennas is provided. The method comprises applying an anti-sticking agent onto selective areas of a substrate. These areas are substantially complementary to antenna-areas having the shape of the RFID array. Then, the process continues by depositing in a vacuum chamber a first electrically conductive layer onto said antenna-areas. The substrate is then immersed in an electrolyte solution in which the electrically conductive layer is electroplated to form a metal layer having a desired thickness.
Abstract: A damper that has chemical resistance, that can be used under a high-pressure environment, and that can remove pressure pulsations is provided. This damper includes a fluid chamber into and out of which a fluid flows, a diaphragm defining at least one surface of the fluid chamber, and a separate chamber adjacent to the fluid chamber in a fluid-tight manner, with the diaphragm disposed therebetween. The diaphragm includes a first film having chemical resistance and a second film having pressure resistance.
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for conducting genetic research using DNA sampling, preferably via an online social network, using a set of family members related by defined genealogical relationships to identify carriers of a DNA of interest for obtaining DNA information. According to various aspects of the invention, the method can be used for identifying and determining carriers of a DNA of interest, and further genealogical analysis.
Abstract: A construction method for simple bridges or continuous bridges using prestressed concrete girder (PSC girder) and precast slabs (PSC slabs) where prestress is applied to the lower portion of the center of the girder. bridges of low clearance and long span are constructed by preventing a loss of prestress due to load of the slabs and relieving excessive compression force generated on the upper edge portion of the center of the girder during the construction of the bridge.
Abstract: A method and system for generating an interactive computerized biological network consisting of living and non-living entities based upon the multiple relationship types which can exist between entities. The network can consist of multiple node types. Such node types can include persons, places, objects, and animals, each connected by one or more linkages associated with a precise linkage type representing the relationship type between a node and any other node type in the same network. Nodes are connected to other nodes in the network by linkages which can have multiple linkage types. Each linkage type represents the actual relationship type between the nodes, such as person, place, object or animal represented by the nodes.
