Abstract: A device is provided for fluid treatment, in particular for waste water treatment. The fluid is led along a surface (3) coated with biological material. A wiper element (5) is provided, which brushes the surface (3) not as a whole, but in paths. The path course is selected such that the coated surface (3) is successively brushed in sections.
Abstract: An optical touchpad system is disclosed that may be easily integrated into a variety of applications. One feature of the optical touchpad system that may contribute to this versatility may be the ability of the optical touchpad system to function in the same manner independent from a topology and/or opacity of an interface surface of the optical touchpad system. This may enable the interface surface to be composed of any of a variety of materials. This may further enable the interface surface to include various topologies adapted for the application in which the optical touchpad system may be employed.
Abstract: An optical touchpad system that includes a waveguide having a plurality of waveguide layers. For example, the waveguide may include an intervening layer, a signal layer, and/or other layers. The intervening layer may be defined by a first surface, a second surface and a substantially transparent material having a first index of refraction disposed between the first and the second surface of the interface layer. The signal layer may be defined by a first surface, a second surface and a substantially transparent material having a second index of refraction that is greater than the first index of refraction.

Abstract: A three-dimensional array (10) of microphones (M) is used to determine the three-dimensional sound field above a surface element (?S) of a sound emitting surface (S), and the air-particle velocity (un) at the surface element (?S) is determined using Near-Field Acoustical Holography (NAH). A volume velocity sound source (11) is used to emit a volume velocity (Qv) in a listening position, and the array (10) of microphones (M) is used to determine the resulting three-dimensional sound field above the surface element (?S), and using NAH the resulting sound pressure at the surface element (?S) is determined. The acoustic transfer function (H) between the surface element (?S) and the listening position is assumed to be reciprocal and is determined as the ratio of the resulting sound pressure at the surface element (?S) to the volume velocity (Qv). The sound pressure in the listening position resulting from the surface element (?S) is determined as ?p=H.(un. ?S).
Abstract: A method and system of creating a cylinder oil having a target TBN ranging from 40 to 70 for use in a two-stroke en line. Fresh system oil having a TBN less than 10 is provided. The fresh system oil is used in the two-stroke engine to product partially used system oil. An initial fluid containing at least some partially used system oil is provided. A first TBN of the initial fluid is determined. Cylinder oil having the target TBN is created by blending the initial fluid having the first TBN with at least one suited additive. The cylinder oil is provided to the two-stroke engine.

Abstract: The electric motor is equipped with an electronic control, for example in the form of a frequency converter (2) and comprises at least one Seebeck element (6) whose one side is connected to the motor (1) in a heat-conducting manner and whose other side is in heat-conducting connection with a cooling medium. The electrical output power of the Seebeck element (6) is led to the electronic control (2) of the motor (1).

Abstract: Traditional cuffs for measuring blood pressure use an air chamber enclosed in a non-stretchable fabric to occlude an artery in a limb when supplied with pressurised air. A stethoscope used on the limb is used to monitor blood flow. Application of the cuff is inconvenient and correct placement of the stethoscope chestpiece requires skill. According to the invention blood pressure measurement is facilitated by having the air chamber enclosed in a pre-formed shell-like structure being flexible around the limb and stiff along the limb and by using a linear array of microphones to detect the blood flow noises, the best signal from one of the microphones being automatically selected. Furthermore, the invention provides a facility for correcting the reading in dependence of the amount of wrap of the limb.
Abstract: The invention provides a refrigeration system with a compressing unit, and a method of controlling a refrigeration system. To facilitate a better control, the capacity of the compressing unit is controlled based on a predicted future cooling demand rather than an actually determined cooling demand. The invention further provides a system wherein a cost value for changing the cooling capacity of the system is taken into consideration.
Abstract: An electronic voting system, including: a voting device to generate, in response to a voter selection for each of a plurality of voters an encrypted electronic ballot and a printed ballot, both having voter selection data indicating a said voter's choice, said electronic ballot including information to link it to said printed ballot and vice-versa; an electronic vote decryption system configured to decrypt said encrypted electronic ballots including said linking information; and a voting verification system to receive decrypted voter selection data and linking information from said vote decryption system, to receive voter selection data and linking information from said printed ballots and to compare voters' choices for a sample of said printed and electronic ballots linked by said linking information, to verify the voting.
Abstract: Dough with a high sucrose content (such as cake dough) tends to inhibit the activity of an anti-staling amylase such as Novamyl, making it less effective to prevent the staling of dough-based products with high sucrose content such as cakes. A good anti-staling effect in cakes can be achieved by using a carefully selected anti-staling amylase with certain properties. Analysis of a 3D structure of Novamyl shows that sucrose may inhibit by binding in the active site. Sucrose docks into the active site of Novamyl differently from the substrate or inhibitor in published models 1QHO and 1QHP. This finding is used to design sucrose-tolerant variants.

Abstract: The inventors realized that the diversity generated by conventional methods may be limited by steric hindrance between amino acid residues in the three-dimensional structures of the resulting polypeptides. The steric hindrance may occur between amino acid residues at widely different positions in the amino acid sequences, e.g. between residues in two different domains of the 3D structure, and resulting polypeptides which include such steric hindrance may never be observed in the conventional recombination methods because they may be ex-pressed in poor yields or may have poor activity or stability. The inventors developed a method to identify and alleviate such steric hindrance in the resulting polypeptides. In an alignment of the three-dimensional structures, steric hindrance is indicated when residues from two different structures are located within a certain distance.

Abstract: An ostomy support garment in the form of a material having a hole for receiving a stoma. The hole has a stabilized edge that is provided with an element allowing an increase or reduction of the length of the edge of the hole to obtain a snug fit to the stoma. This also ensures an easy application and removal of the garment and of a collecting bag combined with a sufficient support next to the stoma.
