  • Patent number: 9020063
Abstract: An frequency shift keying (FSK) transceiver for use in a hearing aid is capable of automatic tuning of the transceiver frequency. The automatic tuning makes use of a phase difference detector and a tuning manager adapted to control the frequency of a resonant circuit of the FSK transceiver according to information received from the phase difference detector. The phase difference detector measures the phase difference across a component of the resonant circuit of the FSK transceiver. If the phase difference of a binary FSK symbol is equal to the phase difference of the opposite binary FSK symbol, the resonant circuit is tuned, otherwise the tuning manager performs a tuning procedure in order to minimize the difference in phase differences, and adjusts the frequency of the resonant circuit accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9017992
Abstract: The invention provides compositions and methods for the detection of targets in a sample; in particular, an in situ hybridization (ISH) sample. Probes and detectable labels may be provided in multiple layers in order to increase the flexibility of a detection system, and to allow for amplification to enhance the signal from a target. The layers may be created by incorporating probes and detectable labels into larger molecular units that interact through nucleic acids base-pairing, including peptide-nucleic acid (PNA) base-pairing. Optional non-natural bases allow for degenerate base pairing schemes. The compositions and methods are also compatible with immunohistochemistry (IHC), immunocytochemistry (ICC), flow cytometry, enzyme immuno-assays (EIA), enzyme linked immuno-assays (ELISA), blotting methods (e.g. Western, Southern, and Northern), labeling inside electrophoresis systems or on surfaces or arrays, and precipitation, among other general detection assay formats.

  • Patent number: 9019682
Abstract: A discharge apparatus for a wind turbine is disclosed that enables electric charge to be discharged between a first and a second part of the wind turbine that are rotatable relative to each other. The discharge apparatus includes a charge transfer unit electrically connected to the first part, and an electrically conductive slideway electrically connected to the second part. The charge transfer unit includes an electrically insulative sliding member that maintains mechanical contact with the slideway, and a spark-gap electrode electrically connected to the first part and that moves in unison with the sliding member over the slideway. The spark-gap electrode and slideway form a spark gap having a spark-gap width controlled by the sliding member. The first and second parts are electrically isolated from each other in the absence of a spark, and discharge occurs by sparks bridging the spark gap.

  • Patent number: 9018782
Abstract: Wind turbines of a wind power plant may be selectively over-rated by measuring the difference between the nominal and actual power plant outputs and deriving an over-rating request signal based on that difference which is sent to each turbine. The same value may be sent to each turbine. Alternatively, each turbine may be given its own over-rating amount based on an optimization of the turbine. Over-rating may also be used when external economic factors such as energy costs are sufficiently high to out-weigh any potential harmful effect of over-rating. The fatigue lifetime of turbines and their critical components may also be taken into account when deciding whether and to what extent to implement an over-rating command.

  • Patent number: 9018366
Abstract: The present invention relates to agents and methods that are capable of augmenting NK-mediated killing of target cells by reducing inhibitory KIR signalling without reducing the binding of KIR to HLA-C. As described herein, transduction of negative signaling via KIR, upon binding of KIR to its HLA class I ligand, can involve a ligand-binding induced, conformational reorientation of the KIR molecules allowing interactions to form between adjacent KIRs in specific domains, leading to accelerated clustering. Methods and agents such as monoclonal antibodies for reducing KIR-mediated inhibition of NK cell cytotoxicity without reducing or blocking HLA-binding by, e.g., reducing or blocking dimerization of KIR, are provided.

  • Patent number: 9018813
Abstract: A linear actuator, especially for telescopic lifting columns (7) comprising a reversible electric motor (16) and a transmission (17) located in a box-shaped housing (14). A Linear movable activation element (18), preferably a spindle unit (19-21) connected to the transmission (17) is secured to the housing (14)). The activation element is intended for moving an adjustable element, e.g. a table top in the structure into which the actuator should be incorporated. The housing (14) is equipped with internal reinforcements (32) for strengthening said housing in its longitudinal direction and possibly also in its transverse direction. Thus a linear actuator with sufficient rigidity for use in sitting/standing tables without cross member is achieved.

  • Patent number: 9017034
Abstract: An upwind wind turbine comprising blades extending radially from a rigid hub on a main shaft having a horizontal axis is described. The blades and hub constitute a rotor with a rotor plane. The main shaft is pivotally mounted in a nacelle on top of a tower which pivots around the vertical axis of the tower. The rotor plane adjusts in relation to wind direction, so during normal use the rotor is positioned on the upwind side of the tower. Each blade has at least a first leeward supporting mechanism having first and second ends. The first end connects to the blade at a first leeward mounting point positioned in a radial distance from the horizontal axis. The second end connects to a second leeward mounting point at a rotatable part and is positioned in an axial distance from the rotor plane on the leeward side of the rotor.
