Abstract: A brake device for retarding linear and rotative movement of a load carrying unit after ejection from an in-flight projectile, wherein a container encloses the unit and includes a plurality of slits which divide the container into sections. Each section includes a concave end portion which pivots into a position for retarding movement of the unit responsive to movement of the container through the atmosphere.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pair of hydraulically operated cylinder assemblies adaptable for positioning the barrel of an artillery weapon and including novel hydraulic dampening assemblies for controlling the speed of movement of the barrel.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of producing a cement mortar with a density of 1200-2000 kg/m.sup.3 with good stability in a fresh condition. According to the invention, this good stability in the mortar is achieved through an extremely fine-pored structure initiated by fine-particle material with certain fixed properties added to the fresh mortar. The invention also comprises a method, using said mortar as a binding agent, of producing a lightweight aggregate concrete with an aggregate content of 45-80 percent by volume and a density below 1400 kg/m.sup.3 where the aggregate material has a particle density of less than 1200 kg/m.sup.3 and the mortar entirely fills out the space between the aggregate particles.
Abstract: A rammer head assembly for moving a projectile and a propellant charge from a first position behind a barrel chamber of a firearm into a second position within the barrel chamber, with the propellant charge being positioned adjacent to a closed rear end of the chamber. The rammer head assembly being rotatably supported so as to swing the propellant charge end-to-end behind the projectile and including a pivotable front end portion for contacting and moving the projectile into the firing chamber.

Abstract: A device providing for the recoilless firing of a missile from a launching tube and comprising a gas generator surrounding a rear portion of the tube, with a plurality of apertures formed in the tube and positioned to allow high pressure gas to pass from the gas generator into an area behind the missile to provide a sufficient launch force.
Abstract: An improved low-profile turret for a large-calibre tank-mounted firearm includes a support for operating personnel and a box-shaped structure which permits the turret to blend into the upper surface of the tank. An improved loading pendulum is also disclosed.
Abstract: A spoiler control assembly for deflecting a stream of propelling gas to pass through an exhaust nozzle of a motor drive missile type device, wherein the spoiler control assembly includes at least one spoiler blade attached for joint rotation with a turning shaft mounted within the missile. The spoiler blade is positioned adjacent an end surface of the nozzle and is inclined at a predetermined acute angle relative to a plane extending directly across an opening of the nozzle, with the shaft being selectively rotated to extend a portion of the spoiler blade into the stream of propelling gas.
Abstract: Transferring solids constituents from aqueous waste containing low and/or medium radioactive solids into solid units for long-term depositing which includes adding an organic compound which forms an azeotrope with water, distilling off the azeotrope, adding a substance which is transformable into a solid state, and distilling off the organic compound.
Abstract: The bottom plug of a projectile is provided with a radially extending recess which houses a conforming plate which is ejected from the recess when the projectile charge ignites and expels the bottom plug, thereby causing the bottom plug to become eccentric and move out of the path of the flare or other contents of the projectile.

Abstract: Method for producing the hydrochloride of N-methyl piperidine-2-carboxylic acid-2,6-xylidide which include hydrogenating picolinic acid-2,6-xylidide in the pyridine ring in the presence of HCl to the hydrochloride of piperidine carboxylic acid xylidide followed by catalytic reductive methylation using formaldehyde.
Abstract: Apparatus for directing electromagnetic radiation such as a laser beam in a gyro-stabilized direction. The apparatus includes a supporting means on which is fixedly mounted an optical lens having a predetermined focal length and also an element for either detecting the radiation when the apparatus is used to receive the gyro-stabilized beam or for emitting the radiation when the apparatus is used to transmit a gyro-stabilized beam. A mirror is also provided which is mounted on the axis of the lens and, via a cardanic suspension, to the support. The mirror is rotated in its own plane to function as a gyro motor and the beam of radiation is directed so as to impinge upon the reflecting surface of the mirror. Also, the mirror is located at a distance which is one-half the distance of the focal length of the lens from the focal plane of such lens, and the mirror is pivotable about a pivot point on the axis of the lens.
Abstract: A firearm of the type which loads from the bottom of the recoil jacket includes protective doors opened by the loading mechanism as it rises into ramming position. One pair of doors is mounted in the recoil jacket and another is mounted on the barrel at a different height from the first, so that the doors slide along one another when the firearm recoils.

Abstract: Substituted carbamate esters are prepared by treating an aromatic amide with hypochlorite ion in the presence of water and a water-miscible solvent at a low temperature, after which the reaction mixture is mixed with a substituted phenol and allowed to react at a temperature of at least 10.degree. C.
Abstract: A loading pendulum picks up an ammunition round from a magazine fixed to a tank body, traverses around the tank to the position of the tank gun, raises the round into the recoil housing of the gun and, following ramming returns to the magazine for the next round.

Abstract: Existence of cracks through the liner of a gun barrel is determined by sizing the outer tube of the barrel to expand and jam in the recoil jacket in response to pressure between the liner and the tube; or by providing electrical conductors between the tube and the liner which change their electrical characteristics when cracks form; or by permitting powder gases to leak through small openings in the tube as an indication of failure; or by a combination of these methods.
Abstract: A tank supporting a large-caliber firearm which can be raised and lowered relative to the tank chassis. A first magazine is hingedly connected to the firearm at its rear end, and a second magazine is hingedly connected to the tank chassis. When the barrel of the firearm is in its zero traverse position and in its lowermost position relative to the tank chassis, the first and second magazines are interconnected and a hoisting apparatus lifts successive rounds of ammunition from the second magazine to the first magazine, and the rounds are then rammed into the barrel of the firearm.
