  • Patent number: 3946674
Abstract: A projectile comprises an elongated casing containing a payload, a proximity fuze, a transmitter unit operative to transmit a beam of radiation toward a target, and a receiver unit responsive to radiation reflected from the target for controlling the proximity fuze to selectively initiate operation of the payload at a predetermined distance from the target. The transmitter unit is located adjacent the tail end of the projectile rearward of the payload and comprises a pyrotechnical charge positioned at the extreme rear of the projectile and operative, when ignited, to cause emission of light via a lens in an opening in the side of the projectile to form the transmitted beam of radiation. The receiver unit is located adjacent the nose end of the projectile forward of the payload to maximize the measuring base between the transmitted and received beams of radiation, and comprises an optical system associated with an interference filter, radiation detector, and electronic control circuit.

  • Patent number: 3937125
Abstract: An apparatus for loading an artillery piece, particularly a heavy artillery piece, includes a loading tray connected to the elevating mass of the artillery piece and mounted for selective displacement between a loading position and a ramming position. A loading table is provided for supporting a plurality of shells in side-by-side relation to one another, and an elongated loading trough separate from the table and tray is disposed therebetween. Operator means are provided to cause a shell to roll from the table into the trough so that the weight of the shell causes the trough to pivot into an inclination which corresponds to that of the loading tray, and the trough is then laterally tilted to roll the shell out of said trough and onto the loading tray when the tray is in its loading position, whereafter the loading tray is displaced to its ramming position.

  • Patent number: 3933727
Abstract: A method is provided for producing polyurethane-based cores and moulds, using a mixture of particle-formed material such as sand, a bonding agent containing a polyisocyanate compund and a polyhydroxy compound and if necessary a solvent, after which the mixture is shaped to a desired form and hardened by means of a catalyst, wherein the polyhydroxyl compound consists of one or more aliphatic or aromatic polyethers, together with a hydroxyl compound for initiating the catalyzation, which hydroxy compound consists of an aromatic compound with at least two OH groups which directly, or via a methalene group, are linked to a carbon atom in the aromatic nucleus.

  • Patent number: 3933218
Abstract: A truck adapted to stow, stack, etc., large containers comprises a chassis including a pair of substantially parallel cross beams extending in spaced relation to one another from a pair of elongated longitudinal beams which cooperate with the cross beams to provide a chassis of substantially C-configuration in horizontal cross section. The longitudinal beams are of telescopic construction with the parts thereof being selectively displaceable to vary the effective length of the longitudinal beams thereby to vary the spacing between the cross beams. The cross beams in turn are associated with vertically oriented telescopic support legs having support wheels at their lower ends which may be selectively displaced for steering purposes by means of associated electric servos.
