Abstract: A brake system for an aircraft passenger loading bridge monitors the operation of a drive system which raises and lowers the bridge. In the event of a malfunction of the drive system, the brake system interrupts power to the drive system and actuates a brake to prevent further operation of the drive system.

Abstract: A counterbalance valve for controlling the flow of fluid from a hydraulic motor when a load is lowered has a pilot operated valve which modulates the flow of pressure fluid to and from a control port connected to main valve poppet to thereby set the opening of the poppet.
Abstract: A control for a variable displacement pressure compensated pump in which pressurized control fluid regulates the setting of a sequence valve to set the maximum output pressure of the pump and also set the displacement of the pump. The sequence valve is a two-stage device which utilizes a sequence poppet stage and cone stage. When working fluid pressure exceeds the setting of the sequence valve, the cone stage spills to reduce the displacement of the pump. If the pressure is not reduced fast enough the sequence poppet spills to more rapidly reduce the displacement of the pump.
Abstract: A passenger loading bridge includes a ground level rotunda, a tunnel support vertically pivoted thereto, an elevated tunnel horizontally pivoted to the support, a drive assembly horizontally pivoted to the tunnel outer end and rigidly mounting a detachable aircraft engaging cab. Stairs are located in the tunnel support. The drive assembly swings and elevates the tunnel, while a parallelogram linkage assures that the cab is level at all elevations. The cab is offset 45.degree. to the tunnel axis and has extension and rotation capabilities. The tunnel features a load bearing floor support and walls and a roof of curtain wall construction.
Abstract: A hammer adapted to be pivotally mounted between a pair of rotors in a hammer mill has a pair of sidewalls each of which is adjacent a rotor. Each sidewall has a recess which collects small pieces of scrap which get trapped between the sidewall and the adjacent rotor. A portion of the recess extends beyond the outer periphery of the adjacent rotor so that scrap collected in the recess can be ejected therefrom.
Abstract: A railroad car hand brake signal device alerts a train crew when a rail car hand brake is set and air is supplied to the brake pipe during operation of the train. If a rail car hand brake remains applied when air is supplied to the train's brake pipe, a whistle is sounded to enable the crew to identify the car having a set hand brake and a leakage path is provided to cause the air pressure in the brake pipe to fall to alert the train crew in the locomotive that a hand brake is set.
Abstract: A pressure compensated pump has a pressure compensator valve connected to a stroking piston. When the discharge pressure exceeds a set maximum the compensator valve connects pressure fluid to the stroking piston to reduce the displacement of the pump. The flow of pressure fluid to the stroking piston is accompanied by a concurrent flow of fluid to case.
Abstract: A multi-part fastening device which pivotally connects a door to a dipper and the dipper to a power shovel handle about the same axis, wherein one part of the device can be removed to permit the dipper to be removed from the handle, while the other part of the device remains in place to retain the door on the dipper.

Abstract: A pump has a pump driven impeller mounted immediately adjacent the port plate which cooperates with a collector to increase the tangential velocity of fluid entering the inlet port to substantially equal that of the barrel cylinder ports.
Abstract: A door actuator for a commercial vehicle includes a mechanism which biases the handle to a stored position and a latch which maintains the handle in the stored position. A key operated lock mechanism cooperates with the latch to lock the handle in the stored position.
Abstract: A double tongue switch comprises a pair of identical and interchangeable switch assemblies, each of which has a rectangular body with vertical outer walls. Each switch tongue includes a pair of full-width railheads of increased thickness. Each body includes a continuous central support wall beneath the traffic-carrying tongue railhead. The inner end and side walls are ramped to facilitate removal of debris. The tongues are positively locked in extreme positions and are mounted on the bodies by an improved attachment device.
Abstract: A lubricator (which may be of rail form, tilted on its side) for applying lubricant to a railroad wheel characterized by deep, elongated slots so arranged that lubricant is spread on the wheel in spaced segments during one half the wheel turn and also during the next half turn; the lubricant first applied to the wheel is re-transferred during the second full turn.
Abstract: A hydraulic system for raising and lowering a load by means of a fluid motor includes a counterbalance valve which controls the flow of fluid to and from the motor. The counterbalance valve has a pilot operated metering orifice which passes fluid from the motor when the load is lowered and a compensator valve which maintains a fixed pressure differential across the metering orifice. This results in a fixed flow of fluid through the metering orifice when the load is lowered.
Abstract: The instant invention provides an improved vane for a vane pump which incorporates an extended undervane suction port. The vane has a restricted passage which connects the inner and outer ends of the vane and an unrestricted passage which connects the outer end of the vane and the suction side of the vane when the leading edge of the vane is exposed to the pressure port and the inner end of the vane is connected to the suction port.
Abstract: A heat resistant ferrous metal alloy casting having improved resistance to thermal fatigue and comprising chromium, nickel, cobalt, tungsten and titanium.
Abstract: This invention relates to an electrically controlled flow control valve in which it is possible for the pilot fluid pressure which controls the main metering spool to build to full inlet pressure if necessary to initiate movement of the spool. An electrically operated solenoid operates a control poppet which regulates the pressure of the pilot fluid to position the metering spool.
Abstract: A lamp having a bulb secured in a flexible bulb support is resiliently mounted in the lamp to reduce the shocks and vibrations transmitted in any direction from the lamp to the bulb.
Abstract: The instant invention relates to an electrically operated control which operates the displacement setting mechanism of a variable displacement pump and allows the displacement mechanism to be manually operated when the electrically operated control is disabled.

Abstract: Composition railroad friction materials having low wear rates are characterized by the use of synthetic fiber and by the absence of lead and asbestos. These friction materials are particularly suitable for use in railroad brake shoes and contain, by approximate weight, 0.5-11% non-asbestos fiber, of which at least 0.5% is synthetic fiber, 66-81% filler and 14-21% organic binder.
