Abstract: A telecommunications system includes a telephone exchange and a customer services terminal whose input is connected to the telephone exchange, and whose plural outputs are individually connected to one of a plurality of telephone lines. A plurality of interface circuits within the customer services terminal are individually connected intermediate the input and one of the plural outputs. Self-test means provides for the testing of selected interface circuits. Loop-test means provides for the testing of selected telephone lines. A self-test relay is responsive to the self-test means and operates to disconnect the selected outputs from corresponding telephone lines as self-test conditions are applied to selected interface circuits as these interface circuits are disconnected from the selected telephone lines. The loop test means applies loop-test conditions to selected interface circuits, while the selected interface circuits and the corresponding outputs remain connected to the corresponding telephone lines.

Abstract: Customer services terminal input connected between telephone exchange and outputs. Interface circuits provide service between input and outputs Test means applies test conditions to interface circuits and/or to outputs associated with the interface circuits, and/or to ring/tip pairs associated with interface circuits, and/or to telephone lines associated with interface circuits Other interface circuits service input to other outputs Test means analog-to-digital converter includes reference input, analog measuring input, ground potential input, and test output Normally de-energized calibration relay has normally-closed switches and normally-open switches. Normally-closed switch connects reference voltage to reference input. Another normally-closed switch connects analog measuring input to test means generated voltage.

Abstract: A telecommunications system includes a customer services terminal that is connected intermediate a telephone exchange and a user location that has a plurality of telephone lines. The customer services terminal and/or the telephone lines are tested by providing a web server within the customer services terminal. The web server includes a graphic user interface that enables the selection of self-test to be applied to selected portions of the customer services terminal, and/or enables the selection of loop test to be applied to selected ones of the plurality of telephone lines. Selected self-tests are applied to selected portions of the customer services terminal, and/or selected loop-tests are applied to selected ones of the plurality of telephone lines, as a remainder of the customer services terminal and/or a remainder of the plurality of telephone lines remain operative to supply telecommunications services to the user-location.
Abstract: Apparatus for digitally driving a laser in a passive optical network includes a programmable current source having an output terminal connected to supply current to the laser. The programmable current source includes a plurality of output pins, each of the outputs pins has a voltage thereon, all of the output pins are connected to the output terminal, and one or more of the output pins is connected to the output terminal through a resistor. A controller supplies a digital control signal to the programmable current source to specify which of the output pins are to be turned on, to thereby determine the magnitude of a current supplied to the laser from the output terminal.
Abstract: A vanity mirror device for a trunk includes: a back plate of a vanity mirror, which is carried on an inner wall of a trunk lid, so that it can be turned between a housed position and any use position; and a clip device mounted on the back plate for grasping a retaining shaft provided on the inner wall of the trunk lid when the back plate is at the housed position. The clip device includes: a pair of resilient finger portions rising from the back plate and intersecting each other immediately before the retaining shaft; and claw portions which are formed at tip ends of the resilient finger portions and which are brought into engagement with opposite side of the retaining shaft by resilient forces of the resilient finger portions. Thus, it is possible to easily return the vanity mirror to the housed position, while increasing the retaining force for the vanity mirror when it is in a housed state.
Abstract: A bidirectional telephone communication system for supporting a multiplicity of subscriber lines between a downstream distribution terminal using only two of a multiplicity of pre-existing transmission line pairs connected between an upstream distribution terminal and a downstream distribution terminal. Said system including automatic initializing and monitoring circuitry for powering up a communication link and reestablishing the link if lost.
Abstract: The present invention provides apparatuses and methods for measurement and control of a laser in a passive optical network. In particular, prior to receiving a transmission grant, the laser is pre-driven at a current below a predetermined threshold to “pre-charge” the laser. Also, during the zero level measurement interval, the laser is driven at a non-zero level and the required zero level current is calculated.
Abstract: An improved digital loop carrier system for transporting voice and DSL data signals in the local loop. The digital loop carrier system includes a remote digital terminal having an interface terminal, a common equipment shelf for interfacing digital voice signals to the central office switch, and a plurality of copper shelves coupled to the common shelf for holding voice line-cards that convert digital voice signals into analog voice signals (and vice versa) for transport to customer premises. At least one copper shelf is configured to include an auxiliary packet data bus for connecting combination voice/DSL line-cards and at least one data uplink card. The data uplink card is coupled to the interface terminal to enable DSL data transport without impacting digital voice capabilities through the common equipment. Also disclosed is an optional Ethernet switch in the remote digital terminal for concentrating multiple DSL signals prior to transport back to the central office.
Abstract: A Bidirectional telephone communication system for supporting a multiplicity of subscriber lines at a downstream distribution terminal using only two of a multiplicity of pre-existing transmission line pairs connected between an upstream distribution terminal and the downstream distribution terminal. Standard PCM data packets are mapped into and disguised as standard European HDSL formatted data.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for providing a regulated and current limited power source to support bidirectional telephone delivery circuitry and methods for a multiplicity of telephone subscriber lines to a downstream distribution terminal using only two preexisting transmission lines for carrying the regulated and current limited power along with a multiplicity of HDSL TDM communication channels.
Abstract: An automatic door opener (10) for opening or closing a door (28) includes a motor (14) driving a drive shaft (50) and an opener arm (18) connected to the door (28) and being responsive to rotation of the drive shaft (50) for moving the door (28) to an open or closed position. A clutch (46) operable to disengage the drive shaft (50) from the opener arm (18) is provided in the event of the door (28) engaging an obstacle, electric power being unavailable, or the door being fully open or fully closed. The door opener (10) may also include a brake (48) for selectively preventing movement of the door (28). Various embodiments of the invention are provided, including an electromagnetic clutch (80) and an electromagnetic brake (114).
Abstract: A modular multi-service telecommunication access device includes a controller card and card slots for six peripheral cards and a power supply. Any of several types of peripheral cards can be inserted into the six card slots. A card present/protocol scheme allows an inserted card to recognize its address and communicate same as well as its communication protocol to the controller card via a PCM highway. The controller card sends both signaling information and management information to the peripheral cards via another PCM highway. A unique communication protocol allows for both real time signaling information and non-real time management information to be sent on the same channel. A microprocessor on the controller card includes an algorithm for managing messages to the various peripheral cards in the various card slots. A unique tributary addressing scheme allows for a simplified address used by external users to be converted to a more detailed internal address.
