Abstract: A dock for a portable electronic device includes a base and an arm movably supported on the base. The arm has a ratchet gear set and a distal end configured to engage the portable electronic device to secure the portable electronic device to the base. The dock further includes a ratchet pawl positioned within the base. The ratchet pawl is movable between a first position, in which the ratchet pawl engages the ratchet gear set to inhibit movement of the arm relative to the base, and a second position, in which the ratchet pawl disengages the ratchet gear set to allow movement of the arm relative to the base. The dock further includes an electronic actuator operable to actuate the ratchet pawl from the first position to the second position.

Abstract: A device for removably coupling one or more sheets of stationery to a notebook or similar item is provided and a portion of the coupling device, such as one or more arms, may extend through one or more holes in the stationery to retain the stationery to the notebook. Providing a device for removably attaching stationery items to a notebook allows students, planners, professionals, and other users to securely retain items in a notebook at a specific location within the pages thereof. In operation, such a coupling device permits users to keep track of a variety of items in a bound component.

Abstract: A binding mechanism including a body portion having a flange opening extending therethrough. The body portion further includes or at least partially defines a body portion opening positioned adjacent a base end of the flange. The binding mechanism has a manually deflectable flange coupled to the body portion. At least part of the flange is insertable through the flange opening from a first side of the body portion to at least partially form a loop on the first side of the body portion. The at least part of the flange is alternatively insertable through the flange opening from a second side of the body portion opposite the first side to at least partially form a loop on the second side of the body portion. The body portion opening is configured to receive the flange therethrough to enable the flange to be positioned on either the first side or the second side of the body portion.

Abstract: A security apparatus for securing a portable electronic device to an immovable object includes a locking head including a first part having a first base portion configured to be inserted into an opening of the portable electronic device, a second part that is separate from the first part, the second part having a second base portion configured to be inserted into the opening, and an aperture formed through the first part and the second part. The security apparatus also includes a cable threaded through the aperture to inhibit separation of the first part from the second part and removal of the locking head from the opening. The cable is configured to engage the immovable object.

Abstract: A filer is disclosed which has front panel and rear panel defining a storage compartment therebetween, the storage compartment having a width. The filer includes a cover coupled to the rear panel and releasably attachable to the front panel to generally cover or seal the storage compartment. A distal portion of the cover has a width that is about equal to or smaller than the width of the storage compartment to allow the distal portion of the front cover to be received in the storage compartment.

Abstract: An expandable storage device is provided including a first panel and a second panel, along with one or more mechanisms for adjusting the size of a spine therebetween. By one approach, the storage device includes a first panel having a first panel spine portion, a second panel having a second panel spine portion, and one or more actuators, where the first panel spine portion and the second panel spine portion are configured to form a spine of the device having an adjustable width. The one or more actuators may be configured to move between an unlocked and a locked configuration to move the first panel or the second panel relative to one another and selectively retain the spine of the device at variety of adjustable widths. So configured, the device may accommodate an increasing or decreasing number of articles, sheets, or other items placed therein.

Abstract: A stapler includes a base, a magazine coupled to the base and configured to house staples, and a staple pusher assembly coupled with the magazine and operable to bias staples in the magazine toward a first end of the magazine where staples are driven out of the magazine. The staple pusher assembly includes a staple pusher defining a cavity, and a constant force spring having a first end coupled to the magazine and a second end that is coiled within the cavity in the staple pusher.

Abstract: A security apparatus for a portable electronic device having a slot includes a body having an insertable portion configured to be inserted into the slot of the portable electronic device, and a boss extending from the insertable portion and positioned outside of the slot. The boss is configured to attach to a lock head. The security apparatus also includes a wedge supported at least partially within the insertable portion of the body. The wedge is movable relative to the insertable portion between a first position, in which the wedge extends out of the insertable portion and is configured to engage a surface of the portable electronic device that defines the slot, and a second position, in which the wedge is retracted relative to the first position and is configured to disengage the surface of the portable electronic device that defines the slot.

Abstract: A security apparatus for a portable electronic device having an aperture includes a lock mechanism having a lock cylinder and a cam member. The lock cylinder is configured to be rotated by a key. The cam member is coupled to the lock cylinder for rotation with the lock cylinder. The cam member has a slot. The security apparatus also includes an engagement mechanism having a first finger, a second finger, and a plunger. The first finger and the second finger are configured to be inserted into the aperture of the portable electronic device. The plunger is positioned between the first finger and the second finger and has a cam follower positioned within the slot of the cam member. As the cam member is rotated by the lock cylinder, the plunger pushes the first finger and the second finger apart from each other to engage the portable electronic device.
