  • Patent number: 6155088
Abstract: An apparatus which inhibits the theft of equipment such as personal computers is disclosed. The equipment must have an external wall provided with a specially designed, approximately rectangular slot having preselected dimensions. An attachment mechanism includes a housing for a spindle having a first portion rotatable within the housing, a shaft extending outwardly from the housing, and a crossmember at the end of the shaft having peripheral dimensions closely conforming to the internal dimensions of the slot. An abutment mechanism also emanates from the housing, and is located on opposite sides of the shaft intermediate the housing and the crossmember. The peripheral cross-sectional dimensions of the abutment mechanism and the shaft in combination closely conform to the dimensions of the slot. The length of the shaft from the housing to the crossmember is approximately equal to the thickness of the external wall of equipment.

  • Patent number: 6152347
Abstract: A stapler that has a top member and a bottom member movably connected together. The bottom member includes a convex outer surface facing downwardly and being convex in lateral and longitudinal directions with a curvature generally conformed to a user's hand, and also a support portion disposed within the convex surface, having a common boundary therewith disposed generally in a flat plane and configured for supporting the stapler stably on a flat horizontal surface when the top member is biased towards the bottom member during stapling. A stapler mechanism is connected between top and bottom members. Support ends of the top and bottom members are configured for stably supporting the stapler in a vertical position on a flat surface. The stapler also a hinge shaft pivotably connecting the pivoting members together and a hinge cover covering the hinge shaft and having a flexible tab slidably associated with one of the top and bottom members for sliding with respect thereto when the pivoting members pivot.

  • Patent number: 6116557
Abstract: A keyboard support system includes a tool-less, adjustable, in-board clamping apparatus for clamping a track to a base. The clamping apparatus includes clamps each having a clamp top slidable relative to and releasably engageable with a clamp bottom to clamp the track and the base therebetween. A clamp knob is adjustable to tighten and secure the clamp top and clamp bottom together. A positioning apparatus includes a slide coupled to the track for horizontal adjustment. The slide is connected to a shuttle which is coupled to an height adjustment arm for vertical height adjustment by an indexing rod. A keyboard tray for holding a keyboard is connected to a tray support which is coupled to the height adjustment arm for pitch adjustment by a guide rod. A clenching mechanism couples the movements of the indexing rod and guide rod and exerts a biasing force to bias the indexing rod and guide rod at selected height and pitch positions.

  • Patent number: 6112561
Abstract: An apparatus which inhibits the theft of equipment such as personal computers is disclosed. In a preferred embodiment, a locking interface for the specially designed slot includes two legs pivotably coupled together about an articulation point. The two legs each have opposing flanges on a first end and handles on a second end. The two legs define a first and a second position, with the flanges and legs adapted for insertion and removal when in the first position. The flanges engage an inner surface of the wall when the legs are in the second position. The preferred embodiment includes a retainer that is coupled to the handles of the first and second legs that retain the legs in the second position when the flanges engage the inner surface. In the preferred embodiment, the handles define an aperture and an object extends through the aperture to hold the legs in the second position. The object may be any suitable object, including a cable or shackle of a lock.

  • Patent number: 6109812
Abstract: An insert for a window formed in a binder spine. The insert can be separate or part of a binder sheet. The insert is readily removable from said spine to be relabeled to indicate the materials located in the binder. The insert can be pivotally mounted relative to the spine or can be provided with openings that resiliently connect the insert to the rivets that secure the spine to the ring holder.

  • Patent number: 6092774
Abstract: A keyboard positioning apparatus for supporting a keyboard tray does not require complex mounting mechanisms or drilling holes in the support base such as a desk. A specific embodiment employs a desktop apparatus that includes a tray guide supported on the base and having a pair of spaced guide members. A tray rail has a pair of rail members each slidably engaging one of the pair of spaced guide members to slide between a front and a rear of the rail members. Each rail member has at least two rollers for providing rolling motion of the rail members on the base. The tray is coupled to the tray rail for supporting a keyboard. Another specific embodiment employs a tool-less, adjustable, out-board clamping mechanism for releasably mounting the apparatus underneath the desk without requiring holes to be drilled in the base. The apparatus includes a pair of spaced brackets and a pair of clamps releasably coupling the pair of spaced brackets nondestructively underneath the base.

  • Patent number: 6082771
Abstract: An attachment for a folder includes a handle and a boot attachable to a folder. The boot has a boot recess in which a handle body of the handle is received when the handle is in a retracted position, in which the boot surrounds the handle body. A support member of the handle is attached to the handle body and is movably associated with the boot below the boot surface. Thus, the handle body is retractably extendable from the retracted position to an extended position in which the handle body is spaced from the boot back for enabling grasping of the handle body by a user.
