Abstract: An apparatus for balancing a plurality of cells in a battery includes common bus having a connector for connecting to a common bus of another battery. Each of plurality of balancing circuits has a bidirectional voltage converter connected to a given cell of the plurality of cells and a linear current regulator arrangement controls the magnitude of current flow between the bidirectional voltage converter. A controller is connected to the common bus and the plurality of cells and selectively operatives the plurality of balancing circuits to transfer energy between the plurality of cells and the common bus to balance the states of charge of the cells. The balancing circuits are operated in response to actual states of charge of the cells, an average state of charge, a desired voltage level for the common bus, and an actual voltage level on the common bus.

  • Patent number: 8689823
Abstract: A hydro-pneumatic system has an air powered motor driving a hydraulic pump with a pressure limiting valve that turns off air flow to the air motor when a hydraulic pressure output by the pump at a sense port of the valve reaches a certain limit. A valve element of the valve has spring, hydraulic and pneumatic sections, with an unbalanced area of the hydraulic section in a sealed pressure chamber of a cartridge that is part of the valve housing. The pneumatic section extends out one end of the cartridge to fill a bore between the air inlet and outlet ports when the pneumatic section is extended, and allow air to pass when it is retracted.

  • Patent number: 8672110
Abstract: A torque overload clutch comprises outer and inner members. A recess is formed in the outer member and a radial opening is formed in the inner member. A driving member is slideably captured in the opening to move between an extended, engaged position with the recess and a retracted, disengaged position. An actuator ring is urged by a spring into engagement with the driving member to bias the driving member toward the engaged position. An end of the driving member may engage the recess to define an engagement angle that is approximately between thirty-four and seventy degrees relative to a radially oriented reference. The driving member may be slideably captured in a liner seated in the opening, and one or both may be impregnated with a lubricant. A bearing may be positioned between the inner and outer members to inhibit relative movement along the clutch axis.

  • Publication number: 20130305544
Abstract: An apparatus receives power from a prime mover to move a punch relative to a die and thereby form a hole in a wall. The apparatus includes a draw stud that translates to move the punch relative to the die to form the hole. The draw stud is detachable from the apparatus by driving the draw stud such that a key exits a keyway, rotating the draw stud to detach the draw stud from a transmission element, and thereafter removing the draw stud from a draw stud passageway.

Abstract: An electrical switch includes a pivotally supported blade, a toggle mechanism, and an operating mechanism. The operating mechanism is drivable in a first direction to pivot the blade about a first axis and toward a closed blade position. When pivoting toward the closed blade position, the toggle mechanism inhibits the blade from pivoting about a second axis. Upon reaching the closed blade position, continued motion of the operating mechanism in the first direction causes the toggle mechanism to pivot the blade about the second axis toward a closed contact position. In the closed contact position, the blade contacts at least one blade contact to electrically connect the blade and a first electrical terminal.

  • Publication number: 20130269511
Abstract: The invention provides for a hydraulic cylinder position sensing and locking system that automatically maintains the position of a lock nut (36) that engages a plunger (16) on a hydraulic actuator such that if hydraulic pressure is lost, the lock nut prevents retraction of the plunger into the hydraulic cylinder (14). The hydraulic cylinder position sensing and locking system also provides for a position sensing feature that allows for the calculation of the axial stroke position of the plunger based on rotary movement of the lock nut. In addition, the invention provides for a synchronous hydraulic cylinder position sensing and locking system and methods of using both the hydraulic cylinder position sensing and locking system as well as the synchronous hydraulic cylinder position sensing and locking system.
