Patent number: 6089923Abstract: A forward-reverse crosstalk compensation method is provided for compensating capacitance/inductance on a printed circuit board of a connector. The method includes a forward compensation process and a reverse compensation process. The forward compensation process compensates the unbalanced capacitance in the plug of the connector by using the parallel conductive lines or wires. The reverse compensation process can be used to compensate the unbalance capacitance/inductance caused by the forward compensations in the same pair combination of the connector. In both forward compensation and reverse compensation processes, electro-magnetic fields, such as capacitors, can be formed to balance the capacitance/inductance on the printed circuit board of the connector.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1999Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: ADC Telecommunications, Inc.Inventor: Chansy Phommachanh

Patent number: 6072824Abstract: A circuit arrangement that reduces selected intermodulation. The circuit arrangement includes a signal amplifier coupled to a bandpass filter via an electrical path. Signal energy outside the passband is reflected back into the amplifier and causes intermodulation. The electrical path is constructed with a length that reduces intermodulation, where the length is an odd multiple of one-fourth the wavelength of a predetermined frequency in the passband. The length of the electrical path reduces intermodulation because certain signals reflected by the bandpass filter are approximately 180.degree., or an odd multiple thereof, out of phase. Energy of problematic signals that are near the edge of the passband or in the stopband is reduced, such as third order intermodulation product and pairs of signals that produce third order intermodulation products.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1998Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Assignee: ADC Solitra, Inc.Inventors: Guanghua Huang, Markku Harkonen

Patent number: 6064273Abstract: A phase-locked loop utilizes a pair of diodes in a loop filter design for providing fast acquisition of a reference signal during an acquisition mode, while maintaining a more narrow bandwidth in a locked mode of operation. During the acquisition mode, the diodes are conducting and the loop filter bandwidth is wide, which provides for a faster response time. As the reference signal is acquired, the diodes no longer conduct and the loop filter bandwidth becomes more narrow for tracking the reference signal.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 1998Date of Patent: May 16, 2000Assignee: ADC TelecommunicationsInventor: John E. Patent number: 6049824Abstract: A method for selectively modifying an information signal at a remote site in a telecommunications system having a head end and a number of remote sites connected to form a ring. An initiation signal is received at a head end. The initiation signal indicates when to start modifying the information signal. Further, the method retrieves at least one stored modification signal. The method also transmits the modification signal to at least one selected remote site over a packet ring network of the telecommunications system. The packet ring network includes ring switches that self-learn the location of network devices based on addresses in packets processed by the switches and which learn that addresses of network devices associated with other ring switches are reachable out of at least one ring port of the ring switch. The information signal is modified with the modification signal. The method also detects the end of the modification signal and ends the modifying of the information signal.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1997Date of Patent: April 11, 2000Assignee: ADC Telecommunications, Inc.Inventor: Stephen Simonin

Patent number: 5977835Abstract: The passband ripple of a filter arrangement, including an amplifier and a bandpass filter, is tuned to a desirable level at the expense of the output return loss of the filter arrangement. Thus, the output return loss is increased as a result of reducing the ripple. To reduce the output return loss to a desired level, a lossy network is coupled to the output of the filter. The output return loss is reduced by twice the insertion loss of the lossy network. The insertion loss of the lossy network can be compensated for by increasing the gain of the amplifier.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1998Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: ADC Telecommunications, Inc.Inventor: Guanghua Huang
