The cover pivots between open and closed positions to expose or cover, respectively, a optical fiber contained within the connector. Longitudinal guides of the connector are received cooperating with longitudinal guides of the adapter to direct the connector into the adapter in a prescribed alignment. A cam pin is carried on the adapter to engage a cam pin receiving slot on the cover to urge the cover to the open position as the connector is inserted into the adapter.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for sectorizing coverage of a cellular communications area includes providing a remote unit having microcell antenna units. Each microcell antenna unit is configured to cover a particular sector. The remote unit is connected to a sectorized base station unit which is connected to a mobile telecommunications switching office. Separate digitized streams representative of telephone signals received from the mobile telecommunications switching office are generated corresponding to the microcell antenna units and the separate digitized streams are multiplexed and transmitted to the remote unit. The remote unit demultiplexes the multiplexed digitized streams into the separate digitized streams corresponding to the microcell antenna units and the separate digitized streams are converted to RF signals for coverage of a particular sector by the corresponding microcell antenna unit.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for signal recovery from noisy observation in digital communication systems, utilizing a forward estimator and data smoother which improves the quality of the estimates of the transmitted signal. The present invention also provides an apparatus and method for the application of the forward estimator to the recovery of a digital data stream modulated with a CPM waveform, through the use of a receiver for GMSK demodulation. The digital data is first processed using the Forward Estimation process which calculates the probability that a symbol is in particular states. Bit decision is then applied, followed by scaling. The present invention further provides an apparatus and method for the application of the forward estimator and data smoother to the decoding of digital data which has been encoded with a Convolutional code. The digital data is first processed using the Forward Estimation procedure and then smoothed and scaled. Bit decision is then applied.

    Abstract: A short message server (SMS) is provided with memory for storing short messages, and a SMS gateway/interworking (processing) block. The SMS accepts all properly formatted incoming messages, and queries an HLR database for destination information as well as to determine whether the destination of each incoming message is valid and authorized. If the destination is either not valid or not authorized, the SMS sends an error message to the originator, and effectively deletes the message from its memory. Where the destination is valid and authorized, the message is forwarded towards its destination. The SMS specifically does not include a subscriber database, and instead relies on the communication with the HLR and its subscriber database to provide the necessary information. Communication between the SMS and the HLR is preferably via the GSM MAP (mobile application part) protocol.
