Abstract: Exemplary embodiments pertain to a solution containing carbon black. The solution may be applied to a membrane filter of a microbial enumeration system as a post-rinse solution (i.e., after the membrane filter is rinsed with the sample of interest). The solution may reduce or suppress background autofluorescence, thereby improving detection and enumeration of colony forming units (CFUs) or other microbiological entities. The solution may be used in connection with a method for performing sample preparation for a microbial enumeration system. The carbon black solution may be manufactured according to a manufacturing process detailed herein.

Abstract: The invention may provide methods of characterising and/or optimising a well treatment. The method comprises calculating, estimating and/or determining at least one spatial or temporal tracer distribution moment for at least one tracer in a well before the well treatment and calculating, estimating and/or determining at least one spatial or temporal tracer distribution moment for the at least one tracer introduced into the well at a later stage or later portion of the well treatment or after at least well treatment stage has been completed or approaching completion. Abstract: An apparatus for deployment in a conduit of a tubular having an obstruction includes a fish neck connected to a deployment device configured to deploy the fish neck into the conduit of the tubular. The apparatus also includes a sand bailer connected to the fish neck. The sand bailer has a diameter larger than a diameter of the fish neck and the sand bailer is configured to obtain a sample of the obstruction by creating a suction pressure within the sand bailer. The apparatus further includes an outer sleeve movable between a first position and a second position. The first position comprises the outer sleeve concentrically disposed around the sand bailer and the second position comprises the outer sleeve concentrically disposed around the fish neck after an interaction between the outer sleeve and the obstruction. The outer sleeve comprising a plurality of panels connected to one another by a plurality of stretchable elements.

Abstract: A method of controlling an aeronautical gas turbine engine may be performed with an electronic controller. The method may include determining an airfoil pitch control command for at least one of a plurality of airfoils of the aeronautical gas turbine engine based at least in part on an excitation load acting upon the aeronautical gas turbine engine, and outputting the airfoil pitch control command to one or more actuators actuatable to change a pitch angle of the at least one of the plurality of airfoils. The airfoil pitch control command may be configured to augment and/or compensate for the excitation load acting upon the aeronautical gas turbine engine. The method may be embodied by a non-transitory computer-readable medium that includes computer-executable instructions, which when executed by a processor associated with the electronic controller, cause the electronic controller to perform the method.

Abstract: A pivot shaft assembly includes a shaft member extending through a base seat and including a fixed tubular piece pivotably connected with the base seat, and a movable tubular piece movably disposed within the fixed tubular piece. The fixed and movable tubular pieces respectively have a retreated hole and a through hole extending radially. A fastening member has an engaging protrusion resiliently projecting from the through hole. For example, a piston rod lip seal assembly may include a lip seal including a circumferential lip configured to seal an inner diameter of the lip seal. Abstract: Apparatus and methods for prime field modular reduction are described. As an example, a custom modular reduction digital circuit for reducing an n-bit integer based on a modulus, where the modulus comprises a k-bit integer for use with a cryptographic algorithm, is described. The custom modular reduction digital circuit includes a first circuit to generate at least two partial results by processing: (1) k lower order significant bits of the n-bit integer and (2) at least a subset of bits for congruent representations corresponding to any n-k higher order bits of the n-bit integer that are higher in significance than the most significant bit of the k-bit integer. The custom modular reduction digital circuit further includes a second circuit to process the at least two partial results, output by the first circuit, to generate a reduced version of the n-bit integer for use with the cryptographic algorithm.

Abstract: A mobile phone and a wireless earphone for sonic ranging. The mobile phone performs an acoustic response test on the wireless earphone. The mobile phone generates a first audio sequence at a first time slot. The wireless earphone recognizes the first audio sequence to generate a second audio sequence. When the mobile phone recognizes the second audio sequence, the mobile phone estimates a length of elapsed time according to the time difference between a current time slot and the first time slot. When the mobile phone obtains the length of elapsed time, a distance between the wireless earphone and the mobile phone may be determined according to a delay compensation parameter and the length of elapsed time. Various potential applications can be implemented based on the invention without the needs for additional hardware circuits in the mobile phone.
