  • Patent number: 10459726
Abstract: Described herein is a system and method for store fusion that fuses small store operations into fewer, larger store operations. The system detects that a pair of adjacent operations are consecutive store operations, where the adjacent micro-operations refers to micro-operations flowing through adjacent dispatch slots and the consecutive store micro-operations refers to both of the adjacent micro-operations being store micro-operations. The consecutive store operations are then reviewed to determine if the data sizes are the same and if the store operation addresses are consecutive. The two store operations are then fused together to form one store operation with twice the data size and one store data HI operation.

  • Patent number: 10417815
Abstract: Improvements in graphics processing pipelines are disclosed. The graphics processing pipeline processes graphics objects in a particular order (application programming interface order—“API order”) as requested by an application or other entity. However, certain components within the graphics processing pipeline, such as the pixel shader stage, may process those objects out of order. A technique is provided herein to allow the pixel shader stage to complete and export processed fragments out of order. The technique includes using a scoreboard to determine whether fragments ready to be exported from a pixel shader stage are the newest fragments in API order. If the fragments are the newest in API order, then the fragments are exported. If the fragments are not the newest in API order, then the fragments are discarded.

  • Patent number: 10417140
Abstract: Techniques are provided for using a translation lookaside buffer to provide low latency memory address translations for data streams. Clients of a memory system first prepare the address translation cache hierarchy by requesting that a translation pre-fetch stream is initialized. After the translation pre-fetch stream is initialized, the cache hierarchy returns an acknowledgment of completion to the client, which then begins to access memory. Pre-fetch streams are specified in terms of address ranges and are performed for large contiguous portions of the virtual memory address space.

  • Patent number: 10388056
Abstract: Improvements in the graphics processing pipeline that allow multiple pipelines to cooperate to render a single frame are disclosed. Two approaches are provided. In a first approach, world-space pipelines for the different graphics processing pipelines process all work for draw calls received from a central processing unit (CPU). In a second approach, the world-space pipelines divide up the work. Work that is divided is synchronized and redistributed at various points in the world-space pipeline. In either approach, the triangles output by the world-space pipelines are distributed to the screen-space pipelines based on the portions of the render surface overlapped by the triangles. Triangles are rendered by screen-space pipelines associated with the render surface portions overlapped by those triangles.

  • Patent number: 10372522
Abstract: Techniques for handling memory errors are disclosed. Various memory units of an accelerated processing device (“APD”) include error units for detecting errors in data stored in the memory (e.g., using parity protection or error correcting code). Upon detecting an error considered to be an “initial uncorrectable error,” the error unit triggers transmission of an initial uncorrectable error interrupt (“IUE interrupt”) to a processor. This IUE interrupt includes information identifying the specific memory unit in which the error occurred (and possible other information about the error). A halt interrupt is generated and transmitted to the processor in response to the data having the error being consumed (i.e., used by an operation such as an instruction or command), which causes the APD to halt operations. If the data having the error is not consumed, then the halt interrupt is never generated (that the error occurred may remain logged, however).

  • Patent number: 10353591
Abstract: Improvements in compute shader programs executed on parallel processing hardware are disclosed. An application or other entity defines a sequence of shader programs to execute. Each shader program defines inputs and outputs which would, if unmodified, execute as loads and stores to a general purpose memory, incurring high latency. A compiler combines the shader programs into groups that can operate in a lower-latency, but lower-capacity local data store memory. The boundaries of these combined shader programs are defined by several aspects including where memory barrier operations are to execute, whether combinations of shader programs can execute using only the local data store and not the global memory (except for initial reads and writes) and other aspects.
