  • Patent number: 9778934
Abstract: A method and apparatus for branch prediction is disclosed. A pattern history table (PHT) is accessed based on at least one global history value to obtain a prediction value. The prediction value and the at least one global history value used to obtain the prediction value are placed in a queue. If a branch prediction is requested, the queue is accessed to obtain a prediction value. The queue may include any number of entries and the queue maintains the oldest prediction value at the head of the queue. The prediction value at the head of the queue is used when a branch prediction is needed.

  • Publication number: 20170277441
Abstract: Techniques for selecting one of a plurality of heterogeneous memory units for placement of blocks of data (e.g., memory pages), based on both reliability and performance, are disclosed. A “cost” for each data block/memory unit combination is determined, based on the frequency of access of the data block, the latency of the memory unit, and, optionally, an architectural vulnerability factor (which represents the level of exposure of a particular memory data value to memory faults such as bit flips). A memory unit is selected for the data block for which the determined cost is the lowest, out of all memory units considered, and the data block is placed into that memory unit.

  • Patent number: 9770724
Abstract: An electrodischarge apparatus has a nozzle that includes a discharge chamber that has an inlet for receiving a liquid and an outlet. The apparatus has a first electrode extending into the discharge chamber that is electrically connected to one or more high-voltage capacitors. A second electrode is proximate to the first electrode to define a gap between the first and second electrodes. A switch causes the one or more capacitors to discharge across the gap between the electrodes to create a plasma bubble which expands to form a shockwave that escapes from the nozzle ahead of the plasma bubble.

  • Patent number: 9774241
Abstract: In a multilevel power conversion circuit, output harmonic waves and electromagnetic noise can be reduced as the number of output levels is increased. This, however, increases the number of elements constituting the circuit, causing the degree of difficulty in mounting to increase, cost to increase, and reliability to decrease. It is necessary to provide a circuit configuration, a design method, and a mounting method for obtaining, at low cost, a multilevel power conversion circuit using a large number of elements. A power conversion circuit is used as a unit module and is equipped with input and output terminals each mounted on the main circuit in an open state, wherein the input and output terminals have a mechanism by which the input and output terminals can be flexibly interconnected with the input and output terminals of another same module.

  • Patent number: 9774272
Abstract: An energy efficient apparatus includes a switching device, a frequency dependent reactive device, and a control element is provided. The switching device is coupled to a source of electrical power and includes a pair of transistors and is adapted to receive a control signal and to produce an alternating current power signal. The frequency of the alternating current power signal is responsive to the control signal. The frequency dependent reactive device is electrically coupled to the pair of transistors for receiving the alternating current power signal and producing an output power signal. The frequency dependent reactive device is chosen to achieve a desired voltage of the output power signal relative to the frequency of the alternating current power signal. The control element senses an actual voltage of the direct current power signal and modifies the control signal delivered to achieve the desired voltage of the direct current power signal.
