Patent number: 4967222Abstract: A web of spliced-together exposed photographic films is introduced into a developing machine at a variable speed. In order to ensure that each increment of the web is treated in the developing tank of the developing machine for an optimum interval of time, the speed of web advancing rolls at the inlet of the developing tank is monitored and the thus obtained signals are used to regulate the speed of advancing rolls at the outlet of the developing tank in such a way that the two speeds match but the speed of advancing rolls at the outlet is changed to conform to changed speed of advancing rolls at the inlet with a delay corresponding to the optimum interval of time. The length of that portion of the web which extends between the two sets of advancing rolls is varied simultaneously with changes of the speed of advancing rolls at the outlet.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1989Date of Patent: October 30, 1990Assignee: Agfa-Gevaert AGInventor: Wilhelm Nitsch

Patent number: 4965455Abstract: An x-ray film has a flexible sheet having a front face and a rear face, a layer of an x-ray stimulable phosphor on the front face, and a layer of mangetically attractable material, for example a steel foil, on the rear face. This film is used with a film handling apparatus, normally a reader, having structure forming a flap support surface of a size at least equal to that of the film and at least one permanent magnet is imbedded in the structure and extends over the surface. Thus the rear face of the film can be adhered magnetically to the surface. An array of stripping elements is distributed over the surface and each element is displaceable through the surface between a recessed position below the surface and an advanced position projecting past the surface. An actuator can displace the elements from their withdrawn to their advanced position and thereby lift from the surface a film clinging magnetically to the surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1989Date of Patent: October 23, 1990Assignee: AGFA-Gevaert AGInventors: Rudolf Schneider, Jurgen Muller, Volkmar Voigtlander

Patent number: 4958666Abstract: A storage canister for process liquid includes a receptacle having a top side formed with two apertures. The receptacle houses two leakage proof pouches of elastic material each having an opening closed by a control valve. An upper part of respective valve housing projects through the aperture and is secured thereto while the lower part of the valve housing within the corresponding pouch extends up to the bottom of the receptacle. The pouches are arranged one above the other between the top cover and the bottom of the receptacle and being extendable to such an extent that their combined volumes correspond approximately to the volume of the receptacle. Preferably, the receptacle has the form of a flat parallel epiped so that a plurality of equal storage canisters are inserted into a drawer of wet processing apparatus and the normally closed control valves are activated by suction or by over-pressure from suction or pressure devices in the processing apparatus.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1988Date of Patent: September 25, 1990Assignee: Agfa-Gevaert AktiengesellschaftInventors: Franz Kocourek, Hans Ketterer, Alfons Kastl, Rudolf Loistl

Patent number: 4953805Abstract: Rolls of webs of photosensitive paper are accumulated into a stack on the upper reach of a belt conveyor which slopes upwardly and has a prop for the lowermost roll of the stack. The topmost roll of the stack is transferred to an unwinding station by an inflatable mandrel which is mounted on a pivotable lever and is movable by the lever between a horizontal position at the unwinding station and an inclined position in which it extends into and can be inflated in the interior of the core of the topmost roll of the stack. A catcher locates the leader of the web on the roll at the unwinding station and delivers the leader into the nip of two transporting rollers which advance the leader into a printer. When the supply of web on the core at the unwinding station is exhausted, the empty core is separated from the mandrel by a stripping device and the mandrel is ready to remove the next topmost roll from the upper reach of the conveyor.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1988Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Assignee: Agfa-Gevaert AktiengesellschaftInventor: Hans-Jurgen Rauh

Patent number: 4953927Abstract: A system for imaging a line comprises a laser for emitting a modulated laser-light beam, an image-receiving surface, and a reflective element between the laser and the surface for deflecting the beam in an x-direction of the line to be imaged onto the surface. A lens assembly including a cylinder lens is provided between the laser and the element for focussing the beam on the element and a telescopic lens system is provided between the reflective element and the surface and including an upstream lens spaced by its focal length downstream from the reflective element and a downstream lens focussed downstream. Another simple cylinder lens is provided between the upstream and downstream lenses having a refractive power perpendicular to the x-direction. A projecting lens between the downstream lens and the image surface receives the beam from the downstream lens and focusses it on the surface. The middle lens has a refractive power perpendicular to the beam traversing it.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1988Date of Patent: September 4, 1990Assignee: Agfa-Gevaert AGInventor: Hans J. Vedder

Patent number: 4947419Abstract: A cassette for x-ray film has a cover and a bottom. A magnetic sheet is secured to the cover and a fluorescent screen is, in turn, secured to the magnetic sheet. A ferromagnetic foil is mounted on the bottom of the cassette and carries a second fluorescent screen. When a sheet of film is inserted in the cassette and the cassette is closed, the film is flanked by the fluorescent screens, which, in turn, are flanked by the magnetic sheet and the ferromagnetic foil. The magnetic sheet and ferromagentic foil are attracted to one another and thereby urge the fluorescent screens into engagement with the film. The ferromagnetic foil is mounted on the bottom of the cassette via connecting elements which permit the ferromagnetic foil to undergo relatively large amounts of movement relative to the bottom of the cassette. In this manner, the ferromagnetic foil can conform to deformation of the cassette.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 1983Date of Patent: August 7, 1990Assignee: AGFA-Gevaert AktiengesellschaftInventors: Manfred Schmidt, Reimund Kluge

Patent number: 4947205Abstract: A filmstrip containing a series of images is conveyed along a path which passes by a copying station and a scanning station. The filmstrip is advanced in steps using transporting rolls and a narrow segment of the filmstrip is scanned at the scanning station after every step. A first set of measurements obtained upon scanning of the filmstrip is used to calculate the amounts of light and the exposure times required to properly reproduce the images. A second set of measurements is used to detect characteristic regions of the filmstrip having abrupt changes in density. The positions of the characteristic regions along the filmstrip are established by a counter which counts the steps undergone by the filmstrip and the measurement or measurements corresponding to each characteristic region are stored together with the respective position. The positions of the characteristic regions and the second set of measurements are used to calculate the positions of the images along the filmstrip.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1989Date of Patent: August 7, 1990Assignee: AGFA-Gevaert AktiengesellschaftInventors: Gerhard Benker, Wilhelm Nitsch, Bernd Payrhammer, Volker Weinert, Helmut Treiber, Ulrich Klueter

Patent number: 4941620Abstract: Apparatus for convoluting exposed and copied photographic films on the cores of takeup reels has an advancing mechanism which transports successive films along a given path so that the leaders of successive films can be engaged by the gripper of a pivotable arm serving to transfer the leader of the film in the path toward the peripheral surface of the core of an empty takeup reel. The reel has no flanges or is provided with a single flange carrying or adjacent a fixedly mounted or movable protuberance which defines with the peripheral surface of the core a gap for the leader of the film.
