  • Patent number: 4937449
Abstract: In a coated or uncoated film, variations in thickness as well as all possible casting errors may be dependably determined and evaluated, in that two light sources transmit modulated IR light wherein the modulation frequencies are different, wherein one light source transilluminates the film, while the other light source is arranged on the other side of the coating carrier, illuminates the latter obliquely and both the transilluminating and the reflected light bundles are conducted to a photo-receiver. The current signal arising in the photo-receiver is transformed into a current signal, amplified and feeds two electronic filters circuited in parallel, which free the signals from their modulation frequency, after which both signals are separately rectified. Subsequently the signal originating from the transmitted light portion is delogarithmized and forms a statement concerning the thickness of coating, while the light originating from the reflected portion evaluates surface errors.

  • Patent number: 4919354
Abstract: A photographic copying machine wherein the images of successive frames on a long roll of spliced-together exposed and developed customer films are copied while successive films are advanced stepwise from a supply reel on a first driven mandrel toward and is convoluted on a takeup reel on a second driven mandrel. The copying machine employs a third mandrel which can support a fresh roll in the plane of the roll on the first mandrel, and a fourth mandrel which can support an empty takeup reel in the plane of the rotating takeup reel. The leader of the fresh roll is located adjacent the film path ahead of the copying station and is automatically advanced into the range of an automatic attaching mechanism when the trailing end of the expiring roll has advanced beyond the copying station. The attaching mechanism secures the leader of the fresh roll to the core of the empty takeup reel, and the machine is then ready to make copies of frames forming part of the fresh roll.

  • Patent number: 4918361
Abstract: A reel for webs of photographic material can be driven clockwise and counterclockwise by a reversible d-c motor through the medium of the output shaft of the motor, a second shaft which is coaxial with the output shaft and serves to rotate the reel, and a torsion spring between the shafts. Each shaft carries a disc-shaped polarizing filter, and both filters extend across the path of propagation of radiation from the radiation source to the transducer of an analog optoelectronic detector. The characteristics of signals which are generated by the transducer vary as a function of the extent of angular displacement of the shafts and filters relative to each other. Such signals are transmitted to an evaluating circuit which controls the flow of energy to the motor as a function of deviations of the characteristics of transmitted signals from the characteristics of a reference signal.

  • Patent number: 4918478
Abstract: A tank for the wet processing of photographic material has a container mounted on the inside of one of its walls. The container communicates with a source of processing liquid and has at least one nozzle for spraying the liquid against photographic material being conveyed through the tank. The nozzle defines a constriction in the tank and an enlargement is present below the constriction. A movable rack has several pairs of rolls which serve to advance the photographic material through the tank, and one or more sheet-like guides for directing the photographic material to the nips of the rolls. At least one such guide is located below the constriction when the rack is mounted on the tank in working position and a portion of this guide is then disposed in the enlargement. To prevent the guide from catching on the nozzle upon removal of the rack from the tank, the guide is mounted on the rack for pivotal movement between an inoperative position and an operative position.
