Abstract: This disclosure provides a method comprising: a) clamping the top and bottom strands of a double stranded DNA molecule to produce a duplex in which the top and bottom strands are linked; b) denaturing the duplex to produce a denatured product; and c) renaturing the denatured product in the presence of a labeled oligonucleotide that is complementary to a sequence of nucleotides in the double stranded DNA molecule, thereby producing a D-loop-containing product. Kits for performing the method and products made by the method are also provided.

Abstract: A column assembly for gas chromatography, which is coolable by a fluid, includes a capillary column, a heating element for heating at least a portion of the capillary column, and a tube having a lumen and in contact with at least one of the capillary column and the heating element. When energized, the heating element raises the temperature of the capillary column. To lower the temperature of the capillary column, a fluid flows through the tube, and heat is transferred from the capillary column to the fluid in the tube.

Abstract: An apparatus that includes a gain chip assembly, an external cavity, and a controller is disclosed. The gain chip assembly includes first and second gain chips that are coupled optically such that light travels serially between the first gain chip and the second gain chip, each gain chip is electrically biased. The electrical bias of the first gain chip is independent of the electrical bias of the second gain chip. The external cavity has a tunable wavelength selective filter that is changed in response to a control signal. Light in the external cavity passes through the gain chip assembly. The controller determines the tunable wavelength selective filter, and the electrical bias of each of the gain chips so as to cause the apparatus to lase at a wavelength specified by a control signal to the controller.
Abstract: A system for generating a radio frequency (RF) signal at a drive frequency and a high voltage. The system includes a RF amplifier to amplify the voltage of a drive signal having a selected RF frequency. The amplified drive signal is used to drive a resonator to generate the RF signal such that the resonant frequency is the same or substantially the same as the drive frequency. A resonance tuning controller compares the drive frequency and the resonant frequency. If the resonant frequency and drive frequency are different, a temperature changing element is controlled to either increase heat or decrease heat radiating toward a tuning component with a resonance parameter that varies with temperature. For example, the heat may change the capacitance of the tuning capacitor causing a change in the resonant frequency of the resonator.
Abstract: An apparatus, process, and system are disclosed that effectively provide separation of a combined gas/liquid flow stream into its separated gas and liquid factions. The invention is primarily directed to the fields of preparative supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), but will have other utilization and applicability where phases of dramatically different density, viscosity and volumetric flow require separation.

Abstract: An apparatus that facilitates the manual sorting of objects is disclosed. The apparatus includes a display surface having a surface that can be selectively illuminated and that is adapted for receiving the objects. An identification reader reads identification information stored on the objects. A controller causes an area on the display surface corresponding to one of the objects to be illuminated based on the identification information and indicates a location to which the illuminated object is to be moved. In one aspect of the invention, the display surface includes an area adapted for positioning a receiver for the objects. The display surface provides an indication of a position in the receiver at which the one of the objects is to be placed.

Abstract: In an ion mobility-mass spectrometry (IM-MS) system, an ion mass-isolated data set is acquired by operating a mass filter to apply a mass isolation window having an m/z width such that the mass isolation window moves through a sequence of window positions, each window position being defined by an IM drift time value and an m/z ratio value. The m/z width of the mass isolation window and the sequence of window positions are determined such that the mass isolation window captures ions in a region of interest of a larger all-ions data set. The isolation window may be a wideband isolation window. In comparison to the all-ions data set, the mass-isolated data set may yield reduced ion signal interference and increased selectivity for analytes of interest.

Abstract: A method of operating a data processing system to automatically process a color digital image of a specimen that has been stained with a first dye and a second different dye is disclosed. The method includes receiving a color image that includes a plurality of pixels, each pixel being characterized by a pixel vector having components determined by the intensity of light in each of a corresponding number of wavelength bands. A plurality of pixel vectors of the image are transformed to a hue space divided into a plurality of bins, each bin being characterized by a number of pixels that have been transformed into that bin. The data processing system automatically finds first and second color vectors characterizing the first and second dyes, respectively based on the number of pixels that were transformed into each of the bins.
