Abstract: Solids are fractionally desublimed in vapor form from a gas/vapor mixture by providing a nozzle through which a gas/vapor mixture containing a solid is accelerated, the nozzle being provided with a concentric opening which allows a cooling gas flowing laterally at a high velocity to impinge upon and mix with the gas/vapor mixture flowing through the nozzle in the mixing zone of the nozzle thereby forming a gas/solid mixture, passing the gas/vapor mixture through the nozzle and the cooling gas through the concentric opening such that the angle at which the cooling gas emerges from the concentric opening into the flow of the gas/vapor mixture to the direction of flow of the gas/vapor mixture ranges from 0.17 pi rad to 0.

Abstract: For the effective removal of Joule heat from the interior of a high-performance lead battery, especially those with a fixed electrolyte, at least one of the negative grid plates which participate in the development of the electrodes are provided with a U-shaped tube which surrounds and is attached to the grid, in place of the usual grid frame, and through which a coolant circulates. Especially advantageous due to its capacity to conduct heat is a combination of a lead-coated, copper mesh grid and a copper tube, with a residual strip of unexpanded copper sheeting attached to the grid mesh along the remaining upper section of the frame, and developing the conducting lug.

Abstract: Thermosetting dental materials which contain a peroxycarboxylic acid in addition to other components customarily contained in dental materials and in addition to at least one monomeric ester of methacrylic acid as polymerization catalyst. These dental materials are distinguished from those which contain an organic peroxide as polymerization catalyst by a distinctly better stability during storage.
Abstract: In power switches, conductive coupling of the control signal inputs to the power switching stage, and to the load to be switched, can result in impairment of control function. Moveover these power switches known in the art, have the disadvantage that the drive circuit and power switching stage must lie at the same potential. An improved self protecting power switch includes a first drive unit and a second drive circuit that are connected together via a pulse transformer. The first drive unit generates successive pulse trains in response to a control signal. A second drive unit regenerates square wave signals for the control of the power switching stage.

Abstract: Alkyloligoglycosides are prepared by glycoside alcoholysis of lower alkylglycosides with alcohols. The average degree of oligomerization is adjusted by the use of catalytic amounts of an acid.
Abstract: A computer tomography apparatus has a stationary part in which a live ring is rotatably seated, the live ring carrying heat generating components such as an x-ray source and a radiation detector, which are disposed on opposite sides of an opening in which an examination subject is received. The stationary part and the live ring limit a sealed annular channel therebetween, the channel having at least one inlet opening and at least one outlet opening for a gaseous coolant. A conduit, which also contains a circulating coolant, has various portions disposed to carry away heat from the heat generating components, and another portion disposed within the annular channel so that the heat can be removed therefrom by the gaseous coolant.
Abstract: In an apparatus for the coating of bands on both sides with zinc in a vacuum, consisting of a housing (32) surrounding a coating chamber (28) and a winding chamber (45), a removable cover disposed on at least one side of the housing (32) for the hermetic closure of the coating chamber and winding chamber (28, 45), a winding system with rotatably mounted pulley rolls, guide rolls and tension rolls (5 to 17), with coating rolls (18, 53) and a take-up roll and supply roll (35', 37') and with coating sources (19, 54) disposed in the coating chamber, a tube (33) leading into the winding chamber (45) is provided for the introduction of a gas which prevents any sticking of the coated band (50) on the take-up roll (35').
Abstract: A connecting element for connecting a fluid line to a component which can be acted upon fluidically, comprising a C-shaped retaining clamp and a bore which passes through at an angle to the retaining clamp is attached to a connection bore of the component in such a way that a push-in connection piece of the fluid line, which is pressed into the retaining clamp transversely to its longitudinal axis, is at the same time inserted through the bore and into the connection bore for forming a fluidic push-in connection.
Abstract: This invention relates to new aromatic polyesters based on substituted 4,4'-biphenyl dicarboxylic acids and substituted hydroquinones, to a process for their preparation from hydroquinone derivatives and terephthalic acid and to their use for the preparation of molecularly reinforced polymers.
Abstract: In order to uniformly distribute a coolant, e.g. air, over gaps between electrochemical cells in high-temperature storage batteries, it has already been proposed to place an open chamber above the groups of cells from which the coolant is preferably conveyed to the cells through holes in a distributor panel. The object of the invention is to even further improve the distribution of the coolant. In order to achieve a uniform, quasi-flat incident flow profile for the coolant over the distributor panel, an antechamber is provided for receiving the coolant from at least one inlet opening and for passing the coolant through several throttle locations into an open chamber and then through holes in the distributor panel to the cells. The invention can be applied to sodium/sulphur batteries, for example.
Abstract: Thin layers are deposited on a substrate such as a silicon substrate in series of evacuatable chambers into each of which an inert gas is admitted. In the case of a reactive sputtering deposition, a reactive gas is also admitted. Contamination between neighboring chambers with the reactive gas is prevented, and the chambers are rapidly charged with new reactive gas to achieve a stable gas flow by providing an inlet system including a pair of shut-off valves, and a closable flow governor, the shut-off valves and the flow governor being actuated in synchronism.

Abstract: A coupling arrangement for coupling light of a semiconductor laser diode into a multimode glass fiber. The laser diode emits light along a first optical axis, and the glass fiber receives this light through a light entry surface and transmits it along a second optical axis. The received light forms a maximum intersection angle with the second optical axis which angle is greater than it would be in case both axes coincided. In a preferred embodiment, the laser light is emitted in form of a wedge having a plane of symmetry which bisects the angle of aperture of this wedge and contains the first optical axis. Best results are obtained in this embodiment, if the angle of aperture is about 10.degree. and the maximum intersection angle is up to 8.degree..
Abstract: The invention relates to new cross-linked copolymers of N-vinyl pyrrolidone, N-alkyl-N-vinyl carboxylic acid amides, methacrylates and optionally further copolymerizing monomers of a specific composition. the copolymers have a water absorption capacity of up to about 80% by weight, based on the hydrated state, and are suitable for the production of shaped articles which are in contact with living tissue in use. Examples include soft contact lenses and scleral lenses of high mechanical strength, in particular thin to very thin lenses for prolonged wear.
Abstract: An electric furnace includes a furnace vessel covered by a furnace lid liftable and lowerable by a lid lifting mechanism and pivotable from a position above the furnace vessel into a position lateral of the furnace vessel and back by a lid pivoting mechanism. A lid supporting framework is pivotably mounted lateral of the furnace vessel and includes at least one lid bracket extending over the furnace vessel for lifting, lowering and pivoting the furnace lid. In order to be able to pivot the lid bracket without furnace lid and without necessitating manipulations to be carried out at the furnace lid for the purpose of exchanging the lid or the lid core, the lid bracket is detachably connected to the furnace lid by at least one coupling means, with a coupling piece of the coupling means being arranged on the lid bracket and a coupling counter piece of the coupling means being arranged on the furnace lid.
