    Abstract: The present invention provides a female connector that can simplify the process of attaching male contacts by eliminating the need for the process of removing some of male contacts. The female connector has a female housing with recessed mating sections for receiving mating male connectors. A plurality of rows of male contacts protrude from the respective bottom surfaces of the recessed mating sections of the female housing to the interior portions of the recessed mating sections. Ribs protrude from the respective bottom surfaces of the recessed mating sections to the interior portions of the recessed mating sections with the protruding length from these bottom surfaces being greater than that of the male contacts. The ribs are provided in areas where the male contacts are arranged, and male contact receiving cavities that receive some of the male contacts are formed in the ribs.

The first leg has a spring contact member projecting into an inner portion of the insulation displacement portion. The clamping portion extends from the second leg. The clamping portion is bent about a bending axis by about 90 degrees. The clamping portion has tongues for securing a connecting wire.

The slider is moveable between a first position where a card has been inserted into the housing and a final position where the card is ejected from the housing. The slider includes a spring that drives the slider in a direction of card ejection. A cam mechanism secures the slider in the first position and the final position. The cam mechanism includes a substantially heart-shaped cam groove and a cam rod. The cam rod has a support shaft fixed to the housing and a cam engagement member positioned in the cam groove. A locking member having a substantially cantilever construction locks the card in the housing and has a fixed end attached to the slider and a free end that is positioned substantially above the cam groove. The free end is moveable across the cam groove.

The retainer comprises a front plate having contact passage holes, and locking arms extending rearward from the upper and lower ends of the front plate. A strip extends in the direction of length and protrudes rearward from the center on the back surface of the front plate, and a recessed groove extends on the front surface of the front plate in a position corresponding to the strip. The housing has a recessed groove that mates with the strip when the retainer is in the main locking position.

Escape by the connectors is prevented by engagement of the two outer walls of the connectors at a slide contact zone. Swivelling is only possible when the swivel axis has reached its desired position. Through swivelling of the arrangement, the blade contacts of the first connector make their way into the female contact elements of the second connector.
