  • Patent number: 8288191
Abstract: A method of forming an inertial sensor provides 1) a device wafer with a two-dimensional array of inertial sensors and 2) a second wafer, and deposits an alloy of aluminum/germanium onto one or both of the wafers. The alloy is deposited and patterned to form a plurality of closed loops. The method then aligns the device wafer and the second wafer, and then positions the alloy between the wafers. Next, the method melts the alloy, and then solidifies the alloy to form a plurality of conductive hermetic seal rings about the plurality of the inertial sensors. The seal rings bond the device wafer to the second wafer. Finally, the method dices the wafers to form a plurality of individual, hermetically sealed inertial sensors.

  • Publication number: 20120256674
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed related to using one or more field effect transistors as a resistor. One such apparatus includes a field effect transistor with a first series circuit in parallel with the gate and the source of the field effect transistor and a second series circuit in parallel with the gate and the drain of the field effect transistor. Each series circuit can include a capacitor and a switch in series with the capacitor. The switch can be configured to be on when the field effect transistor is on, and to be off when the field effect transistor is off. This can improve the linearity of the field effect transistor as a resistor. In some implementations, the apparatus can further include an isolation resistor having a first end and a second end, the first end electrically coupled to the gate of the field effect transistor.

  • Publication number: 20120249242
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for electronic amplification are provided. In one embodiment, a method includes providing a first differential amplification block, providing a second differential amplification block, electrically connecting the first and second differential amplification blocks in a stack between a first voltage reference and a second voltage reference, amplifying a first signal using the first differential amplification block, and amplifying a second signal using the second differential amplification block. A voltage difference between the first and second voltage references defines a power supply voltage, and the first differential amplification block operates over a first range of the power supply voltage and the second differential amplification block operates over a second range of the power supply voltage.

  • Patent number: 8278982
Abstract: A frequency synthesis circuit is disclosed. The circuit includes a phase-locked loop and multi-phase oscillator such as a rotary traveling wave oscillator (RTWO). The oscillator provides a plurality of phases that are applied to a selection circuit. The selection circuit, in response to the output of a delta-sigma modulator, selects one of the phases of the multi-phase oscillator to minimize phase shift noise when the divider ratio in the loop changes, thereby eliminating a source of noise that contaminates the synthesized frequency. This permits the use of the frequency synthesis in applications requiring a high degree of spectral purity.

  • Patent number: 8279026
Abstract: An improved micro-machined relay is disclosed. The relay includes a micro-machined beam capable of carrying an electric signal and having a contact point on a closure side of the beam. The beam is electrically coupled to a first electrical transmission path and suspended above a second electrical transmission path. An insulation layer resides on a portion of the closure side of the beam and an electrical conductor is coupled to a least a portion of the insulation layer. A potential creator creates a potential between the electrical conductor and the potential creator that is capable of deflecting the beam, so that the contact point comes into contact with the second electrical transmission path. In such an embodiment, the potential creator need not account for the possible signal in the transmission path because the potential creator, which may be a voltage source, is decoupled from the transmission path.

  • Patent number: 8274414
Abstract: An interface system between an RDC and a connected resolver dynamically matches an input range of the RDC to the output range of the resolver's output signals. The interface system may include methods and/or apparatuses to determine the amplitude of sinusoidal input signals presented to the RDC by the resolver and to compare the amplitude against high and low threshold values. A gain control signal may be generated, which may be corrected if the detected amplitude either exceeds the high threshold or falls below the low threshold. The gain control signal may be output to a circuit in the RDC or in the resolver that corrects any mismatch that occurs between the RDC input and the resolver output. For example, the gain control signal may control the amplitude of an excitation signal applied to a primary of the resolver or the gain control signal may be applied to an analog to digital converter at the input of the RDC to control its effective input range.
