  • Patent number: 8213536
Abstract: Systems and methods for reducing the peak-to-average ratio (PAR) at the transmitter can reduce the dynamic range required in various analog components. PAR can be reduced by applying a time-domain compensation signal which reduces the magnitude of peaks in the time-domain signal prior to transmission where the time-domain compensation signals use tones that are reserved for the purpose of reducing the PAR. The reservation of these reserved tones for PAR can be implemented by altering the typical startup procedures in a digital subscriber line (xDSL) system. The use of the reserved tones to reduce the PAR can be implemented using a low complexity algorithm or using an adaptive technique.

  • Patent number: 8214862
Abstract: A system and method for managing bandwidth used by videos in a wireless telecommunications network is provided. In one embodiment, the videos originate at mobile devices generating videos of a single event such as a concert, sporting event, graduation, or other event attended by multiple users. The mobile devices may communicate the videos to social networking websites where the videos may be viewed by multiple users. Embodiments of the present invention conserve bandwidth by selecting one or more of the videos of the single event to send to each of the destinations specified by all of the videos capturing the event. An instruction is then sent to each of the mobile devices generating nonselected video streams to discontinue transmission of the video streams.

  • Patent number: 8213427
Abstract: A method of operating intelligent network interface circuitry facilitates the tunneling of packets between at least one process, executing on a host computer, and a peer via a network, via the network interface circuitry. Packets are received from the process executing on the host computer. Modulation event tokens are managed, including receiving and providing modulation event tokens. Modulation events are processed. It is decided whether to transmit the received packets out to the network in association with modulation event processing, and the received packets are transmitted out to the network based on the deciding step. Based on a result of the modulation events processing step, modulation event tokens are caused to be fed back for receipt by the modulation event tokens managing step. As a result, the packets are tunneled through the network interface circuitry and the transmission of the packets is modulated out to the network.

  • Patent number: 8214520
Abstract: Media, methods and systems are provided for coordinating changes of network sources for media streams in a telecommunications network. The streams communicate instances of media content via packets to devices. A first network source streams packets of an instance of media content to a device. Each packet includes information regarding the temporal ordering of that packet within the instance and information regarding the sequencing of the packet within the stream. It is determined that a second network source should stream the instance of media content. A point in the temporal ordering within the instance is identified and communicated at which the second network source will provide the instance of media content. The second network source streams to the mobile device the instance of media content from the identified point, without requiring adjustment of the information regarding the sequencing of the packets within the stream.

  • Publication number: 20120165030
Abstract: In a communication system, a wireless access node receives an access request from a wireless communication device. In response, the access node starts an access timer and transfers signaling to the communication system indicating the access request. If the access timer expires before a response to the signaling is received, then the access node provides the wireless communication device with wireless access to the communication system. The access node receives the response to the signaling. If the response is negative and is received before the access timer expires, then the access node denies the access request. If the response is negative and is received after the access timer expires, then the access node terminates the wireless access to the communication system for the wireless communication device.

  • Publication number: 20120162038
Abstract: A multiband antenna includes a feed unit, a transceiving unit, and a resonance unit positioned adjacent to but separate from the feed unit and the transceiving unit. When feed signals are input to the feed unit, the feed signals are transmitted to the transceiving unit to form current paths of different lengths, and the resonance unit is driven to resonate and generates additional current paths of different lengths. In this way, the transceiving unit and the resonance unit are enabled to respectively receive and send wireless signals of different frequencies, and thus the multiband antenna is capable of receiving and sending wireless signals in more than two frequency bands.

  • Publication number: 20120164993
Abstract: The present invention relates a method and a mobile communication device for generating a muffle-compensated ring signal in response to detecting that the mobile communicating device is in a muffling environment. The method comprises the steps of emitting a reference sound by a loudspeaker of the communication device and then measuring the acoustic response of thereof at a microphone of the same device. The acoustic response is analyzed by searching for characteristics that indicate that the mobile communication is stowed away in a muffling environment, and if such characteristics are found compensating for the muffling environment by automatically adjusting the ring signal in response to the specific characteristics of the acoustic response.

Abstract: Allowing a user of a communication device to have real-time control as a voicemail is being generated is provided. An incoming call to a communication device may be sent to voicemail; however, rather than waiting for the message to be deposited into the voicemail system followed by subsequent retrieval, a user of the called communication device/called party may have an option to listen to the message as it is being created and stored. During the process of listening in on the message being deposited in the voicemail system, the user/called party may have options in real-time to take the call, ignore the call, listen to the call, and the like. Alternatively, the user/called party may take the call (answer) as the voicemail is being deposited without listening in on the voicemail as it is being deposited.

  • Publication number: 20120163356
Abstract: A method for communication includes, in a first communication station, receiving from a second communication station via multiple antennas an input signal having a spectrum that occupies an initial set of spectral bins. An extended set of the spectral bins, which includes the initial set and one or more additional spectral bins, is defined. Based on the received input signal, respective beam steering matrices are computed for the spectral bins in the extended set, including the additional spectral bins. The output signal is generated over the extended set of the spectral bins, including the additional spectral bins, using the respective beam steering matrices. The output signal is transmitted from the first communication station via the multiple antennas.
