  • Patent number: 8186015
Abstract: A hinge mechanism pivotally connects first and second housings of an electronics device. The hinge includes a bracket, a floating shaft, a cam member, and a biasing system. The cam member is mounted on the floating shaft. The biasing system is disposed within the first housing, and includes one or more biasing members that allow the cam member and the floating shaft to move axially in a first direction. The one or more biasing members also bias the cam member and the floating shaft in a second, opposing direction. Biasing the floating shaft and the cam member in the second direction maintains the pivotable connection between the first and second housings, and generates the force necessary to yieldingly resist a user pivoting at least one of the first and second housings.

  • Patent number: 8190529
Abstract: An information processing system, information communication terminal and method, information processing apparatus and method, recording medium, and program capable of enabling safer electronic commercial transactions. A point-of-purchase server generates purchasing information using a card Identification number allotted to a non-contact IC-card of a mobile telephone. A point-of-receipt server acquires this purchasing information and confirms the card identification number allotted to the non-contact IC card of the mobile telephone and a purchasing card identification number. The authentication server calculates user trustworthiness and store trustworthiness based on temporary commercial transaction information stored in the non-contact IC card of the mobile telephone. The calculated user trustworthiness and store trustworthiness is then reference by the mobile telephone and point-of-purchase server in the next commercial transaction.

  • Patent number: 8190430
Abstract: A method and system for using input signal quality in an automatic speech recognition system. The method includes measuring the quality of an input signal into a speech recognition system and varying a rejection threshold of the speech recognition system at runtime in dependence on the measurement of the input signal quality. If the measurement of the input signal quality is low, the rejection threshold is reduced and, if the measurement of the input signal quality is high, the rejection threshold is increased. The measurement of the input signal quality may be based on one or more of the measurements of signal-to-noise ratio, loudness, including clipping, and speech signal duration.

  • Patent number: 8189487
Abstract: A method of operating a communication system to determine latent applications in a communication network comprises transferring a first packet comprising a first test code to a network node, receiving the first packet in the network node, and in response to the first test code, time stamping the first packet. The method further comprises, in the test server, determining a node latency of the network node based on the time stamps, and if the node latency is greater than a first threshold, then transferring a second packet comprising a second test code to the network node, and in the network node, receiving the second packet, and in response to the second test code, time stamping the second packet. The method further comprises, in the test server, determining an application latency of an application based the time stamps, and if the application latency is greater than a second threshold, then receiving application data associated with the application.

  • Publication number: 20120127986
Abstract: Novel tools and techniques for providing a subscriber with converged voice services, in which calls to one of the subscriber's telephone numbers is routed to some or all of the subscriber's telephone numbers (e.g., sequentially or simultaneously, depending on system configuration and/or subscriber preference). Some implementations employ a VoIP switch to handle call distribution among the subscriber's various phone lines, even if some (or all) of the subscribers telephone lines are not VoIP lines. In such implementations, upon receiving an incoming call directed to one of the subscriber's lines, a service switching point will route the call to a VoIP switch. Instructed by an application server, the VoIP switch will set up call legs (e.g., via the PSTN) to one or more of the subscribers' telephone numbers. Optionally, when one of the call legs is answered, the application server will instruct the VoIP switch to disconnect the other call legs.

  • Publication number: 20120129489
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus are presented for providing unlimited access to media content, such as music. A media server environment can be provided, which maintains an instance of each subscriber account and a central archive of media content. Further, selected media content can be downloaded to, and stored locally at, a subscriber device, such as on a secure storage device. Access to the local media content can be controlled through the media server environment based on the status of the subscriber's account. If the subscriber's account becomes inactive, access to the downloaded media content can be disabled. Once the subscriber's account is reactivated, access to the downloaded media content can be restored. Additionally, access to the media server environment, including the central archive of media content, also can be controlled based on individual subscriber account status.

  • Publication number: 20120126819
Abstract: A detecting device used to detect storage capacity of a battery is connected to a load by a first output terminal and a second output terminal. The detecting device includes a switch unit, a detecting unit, and a control unit. The switch unit is connected between the first and second output terminals. The detecting unit is connected to the first and second output terminals. The detecting unit detects output voltage and current of the battery when the switch is turned on and off and obtains an internal resistance of the battery according to the detected output voltage and current. The control unit controls the switch unit to turn on and off and compares the detected resistance with a reference resistance, and determines the storage capacity of the battery according to the comparison.

  • Publication number: 20120128199
Abstract: The present invention provides a watermark information embedding device, a watermark information processing system, a watermark information embedding method and program that can provide a two-dimensional code enabling detection of copying. The watermark information embedding device comprises a first wavelet transform unit (12), a watermark information embedding unit (14) and an inverse wavelet transform unit (150). The first wavelet transform unit (12) performs a discrete wavelet transform on an original image of a two-dimensional code and decomposes this into various frequency components, namely an LL component, an LH component, an HL component and an HH component. The watermark information embedding unit (14) embeds the watermark information in the HH component as a high-frequency component in an oblique direction.

  • Publication number: 20120129563
Abstract: Based on a method used in a wireless communication system (for example WiMAX), wherein a possible successful transmission power (C) for detecting a transmitter by a receiver is calculated, in order to achieve a faster detection of the transmitter by the receiver, a method is proposed, wherein from the calculated transmission power (C) a permissible maximum (D) and a permissible minimum (E) transmission power are determined. At a starting time, a transmission power (G) is set, which is below the calculated transmission power (C) and above the determined permissible minimum transmission power (E). The transmission power is then increased incrementally (F) until the determined permissible maximum transmission power (D) is reached.

  • Publication number: 20120127942
Abstract: Embodiments provide a wireless network with several access points connected to a communication infrastructure. Residential or business customers of the Internet arc provided an Internet interface (e.g., a digital subscriber line (DSL) modem) having a wireless transceiver. Two or more users may access the Internet or other network through the Internet interface. Each user can be assigned a unique Service Set-Identifier (SSID) with each SSID associated with a type of service (e.g., user video service, backhaul service, etc.). The amount of bandwidth assigned to the type of service (and user) may be governed by the equipment according to the assigned SSID.

  • Publication number: 20120131058
Abstract: A device maintains multiple signatures, including at least one signature for each of a plurality of data items. At least corresponding signature for a data item is based at least in part on a given function of at least some of the contents of that data item. The device receives a particular sequence of bits and determines at least one signature for that particular sequence of bits, based at least in part on the given function of at least some of the particular sequence of bits. The device determines, based at least in part on the signature for the particular sequence of bits, and using the multiple signatures, whether the device may access the particular sequence of bits.
