Abstract: In a system in which several data links are available for the transmission while one respective sending unit is allocated to the data links to temporarily store data that is to be transmitted via the respective data link, data packets containing non-real-time critical data are subdivided into fragments of variable sizes prior to forwarding to a sending unit. Data packets containing real time-critical data are preferably forwarded to a sending unit without being fragmented. Additionally, a minimum fragment size can be predefined for the fragmentation process.

Abstract: A method and system for advanced patient communication have been disclosed. According to one embodiment, a computer-implemented method comprises providing a patient communication device through which a patient communicates a first message from a hospital bed. The first message is received at a central processing server. The first message is processed to identify an urgency level of the message. One or more additional messages are generated based on the first message. The one or more additional messages are transmitted to specific health care provider devices of specific health care providers who are expected to respond to the patient.

Abstract: A private communications network and method of managing calls in a private communications network. Connected communications devices register with the network and are assigned aliases, with aliases for groups of registered devices sharing one or more common digits. Dialing strings for in-network calls are monitored for inclusion of a wildcard (e.g., *) which are treated as a “don't care.” The wildcard invokes group features, such as placing a conference call, invoking a hunting feature and invoking a pickup feature. The call is distributed/connected to the group corresponding to the remaining digits.
Abstract: Read-out cell systems are disclosed for image detectors, including infrared image detectors, that provide improved sensitivity by providing in-cell subtraction through the use of a voltage ramp signal generated using a reference pixel and a feedback amplifier. The ramp voltage is generated using a reference pixel and an amplifier having feedback. The ramp voltage is then provided to a plurality of read-out cells. The ramp voltage can be coupled to an input transistor to provide current subtraction prior to the integration node. The ramp voltage can also be provided to integration capacitors within the read-out cells to provide current subtraction directly to the integration node. Further, a temperature-independent fixed current source can also be utilized to further control current subtraction.
Abstract: In a method for managing a target system from a Push-to-Talk station, a Gateway receives a request to manage the target system from the Push-to-Talk station. The request includes an identifier for the Push-to-Talk station and an identifier for the target system. A push-to-talk call session is established between the Push-to-Talk station and the Gateway. A second communication session is established between the target system and the Gateway using an appropriate protocol supported by the target system. The Gateway Transformer translates messages from the Push-to-Talk station into formats and protocols registered for use with the Push-to-Talk station for controlling and querying the target system.

Abstract: A method of dealing with business conflict of a dual-card-dual-standby mobile phone includes the steps as follows. Calculate the period of the periodic location update of the main card and subordinate card respectively, and reset a new period of the periodic location update. Comparing to the original period of the periodic location update, the new period of the periodic location update is reduced by twice of a time for the mobile phone to do the location update. Thus, when the first location update is delayed due to the terminating call, it still has time for the second location update. Set priority level for each conflicting services, so as to avoid the service conflict, such as the conflict between the originating and terminating call and the location update, and the conflict between the location update of main card and subordinate card.
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, and products are disclosed for adjusting a speech engine for a mobile computing device based on background noise, the mobile computing device operatively coupled to a microphone, that include: sampling, through the microphone, background noise for a plurality of operating environments in which the mobile computing device operates; generating, for each operating environment, a noise model in dependence upon the sampled background noise for that operating environment; and configuring the speech engine for the mobile computing device with the noise model for the operating environment in which the mobile computing device currently operates.

Abstract: A method of measurement reporting and a cellular radio terminal are provided. A method of measurement reporting comprises receiving, while a measurement reporting scheme is active, a request for a radio connection reconfiguration, suspending the measurement reporting scheme upon the receiving a request and resuming the suspended measurement reporting scheme upon a completion of the radio connection reconfiguration. A cellular radio terminal is configured to carry out the method of measurement reporting.
Abstract: Keyboardless text entry methods and systems are described. Various display tools are used in conjunction with, for example, pointing, scrolling and/or clicking actions to enter text into an interface. Once display tool is a pie widget shape, another display tool uses a box like shape containing other box like shapes which are scaled according to a propationate chance of containing the desirable selection.

Abstract: To provide an optical nanofiber resonator having an optical waveguide whose diameter is equal to or smaller than the wavelength of a propagation light, a light emitter disposed at a predetermined position of the optical waveguide, and a first reflector and a second reflector formed in the optical waveguide with the light emitter interposed therebetween, wherein at least one of the first reflector and the second reflector transmits a part of the propagation light. With such a configuration, the channeling efficiency of the light emitted from the light emitter and the propagation mode of the optical waveguide is dramatically improved.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a first base member, a second base member detachably connected to the first base member and a connection structure. The connection structure includes an assembling latch and a magnetic piece. The assembling latch is located in the first base member. The magnetic piece is located in the second base member and provides a driving force. The magnetic piece attracts the assembling latch, the assembling latch partially moves out the first base member and is partially received in the second base member to connect and assemble the first base member and the second base member side by side. When the first base member and the second base member are detached, the assembling latch moves back to and is received in the first base member.
Abstract: In a face recognition-based method for an alarm clock, an alarm time of an alarm clock and a predetermined time period are received from a user and saved in the alarm clock. Upon detecting that a current time matches the alarm time, the alarm clock executes an alarm and directs a capture unit to capture at least one image of the user. If the least one image captured from the capture unit includes an open-eye image and the open-eye image exists after the predetermined time period, the alarm clock turns off the alarm automatically.
Abstract: A polarization mode dispersion compensator that includes two stages, one for reducing or eliminating first order polarization mode dispersion of an optical signal, and second stage for reducing or eliminating higher order polarization mode dispersion of the optical signal. In each stage, the polarization is adjusted so as to reduce polarization mode dispersion. Based on the power levels of various polarization states generated at the second polarization controller, the optical signal to noise ratio may be estimated. Furthermore, based on the amount of adjustment used to control the polarization controllers and the differential group delay, the polarization mode dispersion may be estimated.

Abstract: Disclosed is a wireless communication device capable of improving the properties of an interference canceller and improving reception performance without increase in circuit scale and without increase in power consumption. In the device, a channel estimation unit (301) obtains the channel estimation value of each path and the dispersion value of the channel estimation value for each cell from a received signal subjected to multipath phasing. A channel power calculation unit (303) calculates the cell-based power sum of the power of the channel estimation value of each path. A received signal power calculation unit (304) calculates the received power of the received signal. An index calculation unit (305) calculates a thermal noise power index on the basis of the channel estimation value, the dispersion value, the power sum, and the received power, and calculates the received power index of an interference cell on the basis of the channel estimation value, the dispersion value, and the received power.
