Abstract: Systems, methods, and software are described for identifying a location with a mobile communications device. According to various embodiments of the invention, an electronic image is captured via the mobile communications device. A first set of data identifying the location of the mobile communications device may be received, and the first set of data may be associated with the electronic image. At a later time, an identifier of the captured image may then be selected, and a suggested route or a map which includes the location associated with captured image may then be created.
Abstract: A communications system and method comprises the steps of performing at least one Layer 2 transaction comprising a plurality of wave cycles, each Layer 2 transaction including performing a first wave cycle, concatenating the received first responses from each of the one or more nodes, and performing a second wave cycle. The first wave cycle includes broadcasting a first request from a network coordinator to a plurality of nodes connected to a coordinated network, and receiving a first response from one or more of the nodes indicating that the nodes have opted to participate in a next subsequent wave cycle. The second wave cycle includes transmitting a subsequent request from the network coordinator to each of the one or more nodes based upon the concatenated first responses.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an apparatus and method for performing cyclic redundancy check (CRC) on partial protocol data units (PDUs). The disclosed apparatus is designed to off-load the CRC calculation for transmit or receive from a host computer. According to the disclosed method, when generating CRC for partial PDUs, for each such PDUs a decision is made to determine whether a CRC action is required, i.e., if CRC should be calculated, checked or placed in the outgoing byte stream. When partial CRC calculation is performed the intermediate value is saved into memory and later is used for calculating the CRC for a consecutive partial PDU. In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, the need to re-calculate the CRC in a case of a re-transmit request is eliminated.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a translation gateway is for use between a network of a messaging service provider and a hostile data network. The gateway is to forward messages using a secure connection through the hostile network, to a customer's network. Different types of inbound messages (e.g., voice; fax) can be delivered to a single client process running on a customer machine on the customer network. In addition, the translation gateway may be used to securely forward different types of outbound messages originating from the client process to the service provider's network (where the messages are retransmitted as voice calls or facsimiles into a telephone network). Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: A method and device for providing a dual-sided display device having increased viewability are provided. A display device includes a dual-sided display assembly and a power supply. The dual-sided display assembly includes a first viewable side and a second viewable side. A first electrochromic layer is formed over the first viewable side and a second electrochromic layer is formed over the second viewable side. Each of the first electrochromic layer and the second electrochromic layer are switchable between a substantially transparent state and a substantially reflective state upon application of a switching voltage from the power supply, the state being selected based on an operational configuration of the display device.
Abstract: A wireless communication device receives a media request from a user and transfers a message to a media server. The media server receives the message, and in response, transfers media to the wireless device in a first set of packets that have a first sequence of packet addresses. The wireless device receives the first set of packets and displays the media. The wireless device displays a QoS control and receives a QoS level from the user, and in response, transfers a message indicating the QoS level to the media server. The media server receives the message, and in response, translates the QoS level into a second sequence of packet addresses and transfers the media to the wireless device in a second set of packets that each have the second sequence of packet addresses. The wireless communication device receives the second set of packets and displays the media.
Abstract: Decreased capability for detection of communications signals by an adversary is provided by applying frequency hopping, frequency chirping, and direct sequence spreading to the signals. The frequency hopping and frequency chirping can be driven by pseudo random functions. The direct sequence spreading can use a pseudo random chip sequence.

Abstract: An all-dielectric self-supporting optical fiber cable utilizes a single layer reverse oscillated lay (ROL) design and includes a fiber count of more than 288 fibers. By arranging buffer tubes in a single layer, the ADSS cable effectively isolates the tensile and thermo strain of the cable in central and outer strength members, thus preventing strain from aerial installation from impairing or otherwise inversely impacting the performance of the optical fibers. Moreover, fibers are loosely housed in bundles to permit fiber movement and further prevent strain on the fibers.

Abstract: The present invention provides a power efficient FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spreading Spectrum) base-band hardware architecture, and more particularly to a combinational design to reduce the system jitter of a frequency hopping communication system and bring system synchronization to higher level of performance, thereby achieving better immunity to faulty access header recognition, data corruption by sending and tracking the package header of each package more precise, therefore reduces the uncertain window of access header check. With above-mentioned features, this invention has less error packets resend over wireless link, and maintain same system functionality using MCU clocked at relative lower frequency. Hence it becomes possible to reduce the area of the silicon implementation, extend standby time when used in mobile device, and save power consumption system wide.
Abstract: A method for post-processing of speech signals includes using a pitch correction filter, a pitch weight parameter adjustor, and a first pitch enhancement filter to process the input signal into a first output signal; summing both the input signal and the first output signal as a second output signal; and using a second pitch enhancement filter to process the second output signal. Furthermore, another method for post-processing of speech signals includes using a second pitch enhancement filter to process the input signal into a second output signal; using a pitch correction filter, a pitch weight parameter adjustor, and a first pitch enhancement filter to process the second output signal into a first output signal; and summing both the second output signal and the first output signal as a final output signal. The two methods can simultaneously realize pitch emphasis and enhancement with low computation complexity.
Abstract: Systems and methods for Walsh code assignment are provided. In accordance with the disclosed exemplary embodiments, when a set of mobile communication units (MU) is in a control/hold state, instead of a base transceiver station (BTS) assigning Walsh codes for respective dedicated control channels (dcch ) to the set of mobile communication units (MU) on a one-to-one basis, the base transceiver station (BTS) circulates the Walsh codes among the set of mobile communication units (MU). Thus, at a given time, the base transceiver station (BTS) has assigned the available Walsh codes to only a subset of the mobile communication units (MU) in the control/hold state. Accordingly, this Walsh code assignment allows the system to support more mobile communication units (MU) in the control/hold state.
Abstract: A method for a GPS mobile phone to accomplish navigation on a PC and a system thereof are disclosed. The method comprises: the GPS mobile phone acquires a current GPS signal, transforms the GPS signal into NMEA data, and then transmits the NMEA data to the PC driving module through communication with the PC driving module; the PC driving module receives the NMEA data and transmits the NMEA data to the virtual serial port driving module; the virtual serial port driving module transforms the NMEA data into serial data, generates a second virtual serial port, and transmits the serial data to the navigation module via the second virtual serial port; and the navigation module reads the serial data for displaying. In this way, the navigation function of the GPS mobile phone can be achieved on the PC, which brings about great convenience to the user.

Abstract: The present invention is a telecommunications system having separate switch fabric and switch intelligence. The system comprises a switch fabric, a switch intelligence, and a feature processor. The switch intelligence is logically separated from the switch fabric and comprises a switch fabric proxy, a facility service, a connection manager service, and a call segment instance service. The switch fabric proxy is coupled to the switch fabric via a vendor-specific first Application Programming Interface (API). The switch fabric proxy supports a second API, which is common across all vendors, representing functions supported by the switch fabric. A facility instance, which is instantiated by a facility service using a facility model, represents the bearer and signaling facilities of a party to a call, and interacts with the switch fabric proxy via the second API to communicate with the switch fabric.
