  • Patent number: 6574675
Abstract: One aspect of the invention provides an HTTP based extensible protocol supporting a subset of the workflow object names and definitions of the OMG workflow protocol. HTTP is a synchronous communication interface. The HTTP based protocol can communicate across the Internet, traversing firewalls. Workflow applications requiring such traversal could then be built and readily integrated into the enterprise side workflow systems built with the OMG workflow protocol and CORBA.

  • Patent number: 6574587
Abstract: A system and method for extracting and forecasting computing resource data such as workload consumption of mainframe computing resources using an autoregressive model. The system and method forecast mainframe central processing unit (CPU) consumption with ninety-five percent accuracy using historical performance data. The system and method also provide an upper ninety-five percent confidence level and a lower ninety-five percent confidence level. The system and method retrieve performance records from a computer platform in one second intervals, statistically collapses the one second performance data into fifteen minute performance data, statistically collapses the fifteen minute performance data into one week performance data, and generates a time series equivalent to collecting performance data at one week intervals.

  • Patent number: 6574236
Abstract: A customer interface device for coupling a customer site to a VDSL-based video, voice and data distribution network includes a signal splitter for separating incoming narrowband and broadband from a single twisted-pair copper wire, a narrowband port for connection to existing telephone wiring at the customer site, and a broadband port for connection to a customer set-top box via a CAT 5 wire. The interface device further includes a high pass filter connected between the splitter and the narrowband port, and a low pass filter connected between the splitter and the broadband port. The filters improve broadband signal quality while preventing feedback of EMI noise from the existing building wiring to the network.

  • Patent number: 6574242
Abstract: A local area network of devices connected to a Communication Switching Module (CSM) carry both delay-sensitive information and non-delay sensitive user data in master Ethernet packets transmitted over the LAN at a constant rate. Signaling and control information from the devices initialize a permanent virtual connection (PVC) between devices and the CSM. The signaling and control information is contained in standard Ethernet packets which are encapsulated along with non-delay sensitive data in the master Ethernet packets and performs various control functions for the LAN devices and the CSM.

  • Patent number: 6574222
Abstract: A system and method for allocating bandwidth in an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) system over-allocates bandwidth in virtual paths for virtual path groups between ATM devices. A bandwidth allocation platform manages the virtual paths in the ATM system to control allocation and to prevent congestion, while providing efficient utilization of the bandwidth within the ATM system. The bandwidth allocation system over-allocates virtual paths for virtual path groups that require additional bandwidth to make connections for calls. When a connection is selected on the over-allocated virtual path, the virtual path may use bandwidth from another virtual path in the virtual path group or from a virtual path in another virtual path group if needed. A communication device transports user communications and call signaling for a call. A signaling processor processes the call signaling to select a connection in one of the over-allocated virtual paths for the call over the virtual path group.

  • Patent number: 6574755
Abstract: A method for processing a SCSI bus fault in a SCSI system which has an initiator device and a target device interconnected via a SCSI bus. In response to a control command, the initiator device requests the target device to execute a specific SCSI command. Then, the initiator device processes a normal script phase in response to the SCSI command to transfer the SCSI command to the target device over the SCSI bus. If the fault occurs on the SCSI bus while the SCSI command is transferred to the target device, the initiator device retries the transfer of the SCSI command to the target device a predetermined number of times. Therefore, data damage in the target device due to the SCSI bus fault can be reduced to a minimum.

  • Publication number: 20030100296
Abstract: A store and forward receiver for a satellite communication system employs a multi-threaded command interpreter, and an associated reduced complexity audio control language (ACL) to define commands for controlling actions at different receiver sites, each of which is programmable for its own local programming purposes. Upon receipt of a relatively simple command from the headend, the interpreter accesses and executes an associated sequence of potentially locally unique, previously stored commands, causing performance of a sequence of actions, e.g., play back of potentially locally unique, previously stored information files, interleaved with portions of a headend-source commercial audio program being rebroadcast at the receiver site. This allows different affiliate stations to produce separate potentially locally unique complex sequences of actions from a single headend-sourced command for all receivers in a network grouping.

  • Publication number: 20030101426
Abstract: A system and method for interfacing network elements using an isolated fabric interface module, which is facilitated through exploitation of standards otherwise not specified for the particular networking functions in which they are utilized. Fabric interface functionality is isolated and independent of line and switch fabric cards. Standards otherwise suitable for use in interfacing network elements are adapted for use in the isolated fabric interface configuration. The standard interfaces are adapted to extend beyond the specified length, signal traces are routed according to predetermined routing rules using matched impedance connectors, and signals are terminated to facilitate the length extension. Standard system controllers may also be used although the controlled line cards are not compliant with the standard.

  • Publication number: 20030099332
Abstract: Systems and methods for using a voice-messaging system to place local and long distance telephone calls. In the invention a voice-messaging system receives a toll-free call placed by a user and verifies that the user is a valid user of the voice-messaging system by accepting a pass code. The voice-messaging system then accepts the user's request to place a telephone call and the number to be called. Finally, the system places a call to the third party and connects the telephone call to the third-party telephone line if the third-party telephone line is available.

  • Publication number: 20030099281
Abstract: A method and device for frame sync detection using signal combining and correlation. The method comprises the steps of despreading PN coded signals to provide in-phase I1-In, and quadrature phase Q1-Qn signals, wherein each I1-In and each Q1-Qn signal contains at least one sync bit and n≧2. The at least one sync bit from each I1-In, and quadrature phase Q1-Qn signals are summed to form sums Is1 and Qs1, respectively. The next step provides a reference sync having at least one bit and compares each sum Is1 and Qs1 with the at least one reference bit. The results of each Is1 and Qs1 comparison are accumulated so as to form two accumulates, IA and QA, respectively. Each accumulate IA and QA, is squared to form IA2 and QA2 from which the sum IA2 and QA2 is formed. The sum IA2+QA2 is compared with a predetermined threshold and as a result of the comparison a determination of whether frame sync has been achieved is made.

  • Patent number: 6570854
Abstract: An explicit rate marking system is disclosed for use in connection with a switching node to generate an explicit rate value for use in a resource management cell associated with a virtual circuit in an ATM network. The explicit rate marking system comprises a virtual bandwidth value generator module and an explicit rate value generator module. • Patent number: 6570964
Abstract: A technique for recognizing telephone numbers and other information embedded in voice messages stored in a telephone voice messaging system. A voice recognition system is coupled to the telephone voice messaging system. A voice message stored in the voice messaging system is transferred to the voice recognition system. The voice recognition system segments the voice message and then searches the segments for a predetermined speech reference model (grammar) which is expected to contain information of importance to the recipient of the message. In a preferred embodiment, the predetermined is a numeric grammar which specifies a sequence of numbers occurring in the voice message. In alternate embodiments, the grammar specifies a date, a time, an address, and so forth, and can specify more than one such type of information. The grammar can be modified or selected by the recipient of the voice message so that the voice recognition system searches for information of particular interest to the recipient.
