Patent number: 6307549Abstract: A reduced keyboard disambiguating system (50) having a keyboard (54) with a reduced number of keys. A plurality of letters and symbols are assigned to a set of data keys (56) so that keystrokes entered by a user are ambiguous. Due to the ambiguity in each keystroke, an entered keystroke sequence could match a number of words with the same number of letters. The disambiguating system includes a memory (104) having a number of vocabulary modules (110). The vocabulary modules contain a library of objects that are each associated with a keystroke sequence. Each object is also associated with a frequency of use. Objects within the vocabulary modules that match the entered keystroke sequence are identified by the disambiguating system. Objects associated with a keystroke sequence that match the entered keystroke sequence are displayed to the user in a selection list (76). The objects are listed in the selection list according to their frequency of use.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1999Date of Patent: October 23, 2001Assignee: Tegic Communications, Inc.Inventors: Martin T. Patent number: 6304689Abstract: A general multi-function optical filter for future smart, high density wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) communication and network system applications using a Michelson-GT interferometer (MGTI) is invented. MGTI filter is a typical Michelson interferometer in which one of its reflecting mirrors is replaced by Gires-Toumois resonator (GTR). One unique feature of this device is that it can function as channel passing, channel dropping and wide bandpass filters depending on the interferometer arm length difference. The output of these functions is available in a single port. Other interesting features of this element are (1) that linewidths of both channel dropping and channel passing filters are twice as narrow compared with typical Fabry-Perot filter having similar parameters, (2) that visibility of the output for three functions is always unity regardless of the mirror reflectance value, and (3) that bandpass filter has an excellent, near-perfect, box-like response function.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1999Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Communications Research Laboratory Ministry of Posts and TelecommunicationsInventors: Benjamin Dingel, Masayuki Izutsu

Patent number: 6304640Abstract: A method and system for creating and sending call disposition messages. When a calling card call is validated by the telephone network which issued the card, the card issuing network can request a call disposition message. In response to validation of the call, a billing detail record is generated and stored. When the call is completed. an operator service record is generated. The operator service record and its corresponding billing detail record are matched with each other, then merged to form a merged operator services record. The merged operator services record is processed to add pricing information. If the card issuing network had requested a call disposition message, the merged operator services record is sent to a gateway coupled to the card issuing network where it is reformatted to create a call disposition message. The call disposition message is then sent to the card issuing network.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 1995Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: MCI Communications CorporationInventors: Timothy Darland, Donald A. Patent number: 6304136Abstract: An FM demodulator circuit with reduced sensitivity to noise and performance nearly identical to theoretical predictions. The FM demodulator is a time sampled detector for binary shift key (BFSK) modulated signals. Its inputs are an in-phase and a quadrature outputs of a receiver, which have been oversampled by a predetermined factor with respect to the data rate. The demodulator circuit differentiates the in-phase and the quadrature input signal by computing the difference between the current signal value and the signal value delayed by one clock period. The differentiated values of the in-phase and the quadrature signals may be changed based on the sign of the quadrature and the in-phase signals respectively to produce modified values of the differentiated in-phase and quadrature signals.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1999Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Level One Communications, Inc.Inventor: Shahriar Rabii

Patent number: 6304614Abstract: A system including coding and decoding circuits provides for resolution of the phase ambiguities in pragmatic trellis-coded PSK modulation transmissions. An error correcting coder, such as a convolutional encoder, precedes the modulator for reducing the effect of noise in inducing phase errors. A corresponding decoder appears at the reception end of the communication system. A differential encoder and decoder automatically remove the possible phase ambiguities, and operate in conjunction with the error correcting encoder and decoder. Each of the ambiguity-removal differential encoder and the decoder act as an operator upon its input signal. In order that both the error correcting encoder and the ambiguity encoder immediately precede the modulator, the ambiguity removal circuitry is placed between the error correcting encoder, and is constructed as a combination of differential encoder and inverse differential encoder.Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 1998Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: L-3 Communications Corp.Inventors: Ayyoob D. Patent number: 6304205Abstract: An apparatus and method for A/D conversion is provided. The apparatus provides for multi-path multi-channel (MPMC) pipelined A/D conversion. Unlike prior art designs in which the handling of multiple channels requires a linear increase in the associated circuitry and components, the current design scales for multiple channel A/D conversion with less than linear scalability. The A/D converter comprises a plurality of stages and interfaces between adjacent columns of the stages. The stages each include an input, a first output, and a second output. Each of the stages is responsive to an input signal applied to the input to output at the first output a bit signal corresponding to at least one significant bit of the input signal and to output at the second output a residue signal corresponding to a difference between the input signal and the bit signal. The stages are arranged in columns.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2000Date of Patent: October 16, 2001Assignee: Ikanos Communications, Inc.Inventors: Behrooz Rezvani, Peter Gunadisastra
