  • Patent number: 6320861
Abstract: A switch for an ATM communication system. The ATM communication system has an ATM network on which ATM cells travel, source nodes connected to the ATM network which produce ATM cells and send them onto the ATM network, and destination nodes connected to the ATM network which receive ATM cells from the ATM network. The switch comprises input ports through which cells are received from the ATM network. The switch comprises output ports through which cells are transmitted to the ATM network. The switch comprises a switching mechanism connected to the input ports and output ports which transfer cells from the input ports to output ports. The switching mechanism has a unicast sending mechanism for sending unicast cells to an output port and has a multicast sending mechanism for sending multicast cells to a desired output port. The multicast sending mechanism is separate and different from the unicast sending mechanism.

  • Patent number: 6320853
Abstract: This invention provides a CDMA (IS-95) cellular communication system, in which a base station transmits a common broadcast pilot signal through a sector wide beam and traffic signals through narrower adaptive spatial beams by way of an adaptive antenna array. The present invention further provides methods of recovering the phase mismatch between the pilot and traffic signals received at a mobile station, thereby providing for coherent demodulation. By implementing the phase-recovery process at individual mobile stations, the present invention enables the base station to transmit the traffic signals with optimal power gain and minimal interference.

  • Publication number: 20010040525
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for processing RF signals are disclosed. A method according to the invention includes receiving a set of time domain energy samples representing signal energy present in an RF spectrum, transforming the set of time domain energy samples into a set of frequency domain power samples, determining from the set of frequency domain power samples whether a signal of interest is present in the RF spectrum, and forwarding to a follow on system a subset of the set of frequency domain power samples, wherein the subset corresponds to the signal of interest. Transforming the time domain samples can include dividing the set of time domain energy samples into a plurality of N windows, each of which is associated with a predefined window period, and performing an FFT on each said window to generate a set of K frequency bins, wherein each frequency bin has a value based on energy present in a predefined frequency band during the corresponding window period.

  • Publication number: 20010040338
Abstract: The feeding mechanism for feeding media from an initial site to a predetermined site comprises a base, a scrubber, a deskewer, two feeders, a lifting device having two cam portions, a driving element and a releasing device. The deskewer is moved between a first position and a second position and sets the media located at the initial site. The two feeders are used for transmitting the media located at the initial site toward the predetermined site. The cam portions are used as a lifter to move the deskewer from the first position to the second position. The driving element disposed between the lifting device and the releasing device generates forces to actuate the cam portions to move the deskewer. The releasing device is used as an overload protection clutch connected between the lifting device and the driving element, having a first plate separately contacting the driving element.

  • Patent number: 6317761
Abstract: A technique for implementing in a networked client-server environment, e.g., the Internet, network-distributed advertising in which advertisements are downloaded, from an advertising server to a browser executing at a client computer, in a manner transparent to a user situated at the browser, and subsequently displayed, by that browser on an interstitial basis, in response to a click-stream generated by the user to move from one web page to the next. Specifically, an HTML advertising tag is embedded into a referring web page. This tag contains two components. One component effectively downloads, from an distribution web server and to an extent necessary, and then persistently instantiates an agent at the client browser. This agent “politely” and transparently downloads advertising files, for a given advertisement into browser cache and subsequently plays those media files through the browser on an interstital basis and in response to a user click-stream.

  • Patent number: 6317068
Abstract: A method and apparatus for matching common mode output voltage at a switched-capacitor to continuous-time interface. An active continuous time summation circuit is used at the output of the switched-capacitor stage to derive the common mode level that is at the output of the switched-capacitor stage. This derived signal is filtered to remove any noise component remaining in it, and is then used as the reference common mode signal in the continuous time stage. This forces the output common mode, and hence the input common mode of the unity gain amplifier stage, to track the common mode output of the switched-capacitor stage. This adaptive tracking eliminates the common mode interface error, which could be present and could vary from die to die (due to parasitic variations). This technique ensures proper tracking of the DC levels between the negative and the positive terminals of the unity gain amplifier, which is essential for low distortion operation of the amplifier.
