  • Patent number: 4048037
Abstract: A method of making plate material consisting of agglomerated clay-based particles, comprising providing a liquid particle suspension such as slip within a gap left between two continuously travelling confronting electrodes at a given voltage applied thereto, subjecting the suspension to an electrophoretic action between said electrodes and an adjacent counter-electrode subjected to a different voltage and controlling the formation and thickness of the electrophoretic deposits on said first electrodes so that when they leave the electrophoretic field they will be fused together with their outer surfaces having contacted each other and recovering said plate formed continuously from both layers of electrophoretic deposits.

  • Patent number: 4043764
Abstract: Combustible bricks are manufactured from plant materials by agglomeration under pressure of these materials after pulverization and drying. Prior to this, the plant materials are subjected to a fermentation and, in the course of fermentation, to a pulverization treatment while controlling this fermentation so as to obtain a destructuration of the cellulosic tissues of the plant materials without producing separation of the lignin. This process produces small bricks having a good strength and a low moisture content.

  • Patent number: 4039839
Abstract: Thorium tetrabromide has been found to exhibit fluorescence and radioluminescence with emission of blue light in the range from 3400 to 4800 A with a maximum around 4000 A in response to electromagnetic waves shorter than 3000 A, whether ultraviolet, X or gamma rays and also in response to energetic charged particle radiation, such as alpha rays, beta rays, protons and heavy ions. Because of the radioactive decay of thorium, there is a background autoluminescence. Crystals of thorium tetrabromide are transparent to its luminescence radiation and are particularly suitable for radiation detectors and measurements, frequency converter, standards, radioisotopic microgenerators of electricity, and the like. They are also useable as neutron flux detectors, for thermal and fast neutrons because the component elements of the crystal react with neutrons to respectively produce neutrons activation reactions and fission reactions.

  • Patent number: 4036558
Abstract: The invention provides a focalization process of spherical concave diffraction gratings, working by reflection for the dispersion of various radiations constituting a polychromatic light, in which fixed entrance and exit slits are used and in which only a certain rotation is imparted to the grating, the rotation is imparted to the grating in such a way as to make the radiations move in the exit slit. For a certain ruled width of a given grating and a given resolution, the sum of the object and image tangential focal length equations has a value .epsilon. different from zero and determined in function of the aberrations furnished by a concave grating corresponding to the retangular port.
