Patent number: 11990913Abstract: To increase the operating frequency range of the DLL while decreasing varactor sizes, coarse tuning circuitry may be implemented in a delay-locked loop (DLL). The DLL may include a voltage-controlled delay line (VCDL) including multiple switched capacitors coupled in parallel to each other. An electrical ground may be coupled to the parallel switched capacitors at a first node and a buffer and variable capacitor may be coupled to the parallel switched capacitors at a second node. The coarse tuning circuitry may be electrically coupled to a phase detector and to the multiple switched capacitors of the VCDL, such that the coarse tuning circuitry may receive a signal (e.g., an indication of a phase) from the phase detector and may adjust switched capacitor loading based on the signal received from the phase detector. Such a DLL implementation may increase DLL tuning range and decrease phase noise, among other advantages.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2022Date of Patent: May 21, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Chen Zhai, Abbas Komijani

Dynamic service discovery and offloading framework for edge computing based cellular network systems
Patent number: 11991260Abstract: A user equipment (UE) or other device performs service discovery of edge computing resources in a cellular network system and dynamic offloading of UE application tasks to discovered edge computing resources. As part of the discovery process, the device (e.g., the UE) may request edge server site capability information. When performing dynamic offloading, the UE may obtain (collect and/or receive) information regarding channel conditions, cellular network parameters or application requirements and dynamically determine whether a task of the application executing on the UE should be offloaded to an edge server or executed locally on the UE. In making decisions between offloaded or local execution, the UE may use a utility function that takes into account factors such as relative differences in application latency, energy consumption and offloading cost.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2020Date of Patent: May 21, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Biljana Badic, Christian Drewes, Ralph Hasholzner, Krisztian Kiss, Teck Yang Lee, Matthias Sauer, Mikhail Vilgelm, Babar Qaisrani, Vijay Venkataraman, Robert Zaus -

The housing has an aperture and the rotatable and translatable input mechanism has a shaft positioned at least partially within the aperture and a manipulation structure coupled to the shaft. The manipulation structure may be manipulated to rotationally and translationally move the shaft to provide rotational and translational input to the electronic device. A compressible seal is positioned in a gap between the housing and the rotatable and translatable input mechanism. The compressible seal may resist and/or prevent passage of contaminants into the aperture and/or obscure one or more internal components. The compressible seal may be configured to collapse or bend when the rotatable and translatable member translates.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2020Date of Patent: May 21, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: Colin M. Patent number: 11989095Abstract: The described embodiments set forth techniques for preserving clone relationships between files at a computing device. In particular, the techniques involve identifying clone relationships between files in conjunction with performing operations on the files where it can be beneficial to preserve the clone relationships. The operations can include, for example, preserving clone relationships between files that are being copied from a source storage device (that supports file cloning) to a destination storage device that supports file cloning. Additionally, the operations can include preserving clone relationships when backing up and restoring files between a source storage device (that supports file cloning) and a destination storage device that does not support file cloning. In this manner, the various benefits afforded by the clone relationships between files can be retained even as the files are propagated to destination storage devices that may or may not support file cloning.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2022Date of Patent: May 21, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Pavel Cisler, Christopher A. Patent number: 11991571Abstract: An apparatus of a user equipment (UE) includes processing circuitry, where to configure the UE for conditional handover between a source base station (SBS) and a target base station (TBS) in a wireless network, the processing circuitry is to decode measurement configuration information from the SBS. The measurement configuration information indicating a measurement event and a first threshold associated with the measurement event to trigger measurement reporting. A measurement report is encoded for transmission to the SBS, the measurement report triggered based on the first threshold. RRC signaling is received from the SBS. The RRC signaling includes a conditional handover command indicating a second threshold for the measurement event, the second threshold being higher than the first threshold. A handover from the SBS to the TBS is performed based on the conditional handover command after detecting that the measurement event satisfies the second threshold.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2019Date of Patent: May 21, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: Candy Yiu

Patent number: 11991107Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable medium are provided for utilizing a hybrid of ultra-wideband (UWB) and narrowband (NB) signaling to provide more efficient operating range and operating efficiency. For example, a first device may schedule transmission of a packet via a narrowband signal to a second device. The first device may then transmit the packet, whereby the packet conveys synchronization data that is used by the second device to schedule reception of a plurality of fragments, respectively, via an ultra-wideband (UWB) signal. The first device may then schedule and transmit the plurality of segments to the second device via the ultra-wideband signals, each fragment being time-spaced from other fragments of the plurality of fragments by at least a predefined time interval.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2021Date of Patent: May 21, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Joachim S.
