Patent number: 12028075Abstract: A serial data receiver subsystem included in a computer system may include a data detection circuit, a speed detection circuit, and a receiver circuit that includes multiple subcircuits. The data detection circuit performs a comparison of a reference voltage to the magnitude of signals received via a communication link that encodes a serial data stream consisting of multiple data symbols. Using a result of the comparison, the data detection circuit may activate a signal present indicator indicating the presence of data on the communication link. Once the signal present indicator is active, the speed detection circuit checks the number of transitions to determine a rate at which data is being transmitted. In response to a determination that the rate of the data being transmitted exceeds a threshold value, the receiver circuit activates one or more of the multiple subcircuits.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 2022Date of Patent: July 2, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vishal Varma, Dhaval H. Patent number: 12028077Abstract: A phase detector circuit for use with a multi-level signaling communication protocol on a serial communication link is disclosed. The phase detector circuit employs multiple phase and logic circuits to detect data state changes between adjacent ones of voltage levels corresponding to different data states in the communication protocol, and generates early/late signals using the detected data state changes. The phase detector circuit statistically filters data state transitions between non-adjacent voltage levels to improve phase locking and reduce recovered clock jitter.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 2023Date of Patent: July 2, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Wenbo Liu, Gokce Gurun, Ajay M. Patent number: 12028196Abstract: A vehicle may wirelessly communicate with another vehicle via a physical channel (a vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) channel) that is robust and reliable under high mobility propagation conditions. The physical channel may be created by modifying an existing long-term evolution (LTE) physical channel, such as an LTE sidelink (SL) channel. For instance, the V2V physical channel may be created by increasing, by a particular factor, the subcarrier spacing of legacy LTE channels (e.g., from 15 kilohertz (kHz) to 30 kHz). Additionally, a symbol duration and a fast Fourier transform (FFT) size for the V2V physical channel may each be reduced by the same factor. Doing so may enable the V2V physical channel to be implemented without significant modifications to other aspects of the LTE standard.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2023Date of Patent: July 2, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Alexey Khoryaev, Andrey Cheryakov, Dmitry Belov, Mikhail Shilov

Patent number: 12026033Abstract: A system and method for efficiently transferring data between devices. In various embodiments, a host computing device receives parallel data, encodes the parallel data as a count of pulses as serial data, and conveys the serial data to a peripheral device. The peripheral device decodes the received serial data to determine the parallel data, which is sent to processing logic. The devices send the encoded pluses on a bidirectional line, so the pulses are capable of being sent in both directions. The devices send the encoded pulses on the bidirectional line using a non-zero base voltage level. The devices are capable of using a voltage headroom when conveying encoded pulses between one another. Therefore, a full voltage swing between a ground reference voltage level and a power supply voltage level is not used when conveying the encoded pulses, which reduces power consumption.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2022Date of Patent: July 2, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventor: James M. Patent number: 12028436Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for performing communication in a wireless communication system. The communication may be semantic communication and/or may use a programmable protocol stack. A protocol stack at a transmitter and/or receiver may include customization from an application platform, e.g., which may replace one or more layers relative to a non-customized protocol stack. A transmitter may transmit data, via the customized protocol stack, using a best effort data channel, e.g., with transmission characteristics that are relatively lossy in comparison to a data channel used by the non-customized protocol stack. A receiver may receive the data and may, e.g., if the data is corrupted, select one or more model to recover the data and/or determine whether reception is successful, e.g., from a semantic point of view. The proposed system may support higher data rates, less retransmissions, and/or better quality of user experience.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2022Date of Patent: July 2, 2024Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Danila Zaev, Ayman Naguib

Publication number: 20240211038Abstract: Methods to trigger eye enrollment without requiring good gaze interaction are described that allow a guest user of a device to initiate partial or full eye enrollment even though their eye model is not known and thus conventional gaze-based interactions do not work well. A gaze tracking system collects gaze data in the background. At any time (or within an interval after a user puts on the device), an eye enrollment can be triggered by detecting some gaze gesture, for example rolling the eyes in a large circle, or moving the eyes randomly for a time that exceeds a threshold. Depending on the coverage of the gaze/cornea data collected in the background, a full eye enrollment or only a visual axis enrollment may be performed in response to the gesture.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2023Publication date: June 27, 2024Applicant: Apple Inc.Inventors: Hao Qin, Hua Gao, Tom Sengelaub
