Patent number: 11137648Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display having a thin-film transistor layer. One or more holes in the thin-film transistor layer may be used to form pathways from display circuitry to other circuitry underneath the display. One or more conductive bridges may pass through holes in the thin-film transistor layer and may have one end that couples to the display circuitry and a second end that couples to a printed circuit underneath the display. These conductive bridges may be formed from wire bonding. Wire bond connections may be encapsulated with potting material to improve the reliability of the wire bond and increase the resiliency of the display. Display signal lines may be routed through holes in a thin-film transistor layer to run along a backside of the display thereby reducing the need for space in the border region for display circuitry.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2020Date of Patent: October 5, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Paul S. Patent number: 11140634Abstract: An apparatus of a Narrowband Internet-of-Things (NB-IoT) user equipment (UE) includes processing circuitry. To configure the NB-IoT UE for open loop transmit power control, the processing circuitry is to decode a narrowband system information block (NB-SIB) to obtain a narrowband physical random access channel (NPRACH) resource set and power control information associated with the NPRACH resource set. A random access channel (RACH) preamble is encoded for transmission with or without repetitions to a base station during a RACH procedure and using the NPRACH resource set. The transmission has transmission power based on the power control information. A narrowband uplink resource assignment received during the RACH procedure is decoded. A connection setup completion message is encoded for transmission to the base station using the narrowband uplink resource assignment.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2018Date of Patent: October 5, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Qiaoyang Ye, Debdeep Chatterjee, Salvatore Talarico, Seunghee Han

Patent number: 11140526Abstract: Methods and devices for a wireless accessory device (AD) comprising a cellular radio to communicate with a cellular network using the cellular radio. The wireless AD establishes a texting session with a network entity through the cellular network and using the cellular radio. The wireless AD initiates a countdown timer in response to establishing the texting session. The wireless AD determines that a companion device to the wireless AD is reachable by the wireless AD. The wireless AD refrains from pairing with the companion device until the countdown timer expires in response to determining that the companion device is reachable by the wireless device. After expiration of the countdown timer, if the companion device is still reachable by the wireless AD, the wireless AD may pair with the companion device and/or power down its cellular radio.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2020Date of Patent: October 5, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Lakshmi N. Patent number: 11133008Abstract: Systems and processes for selectively processing and responding to a spoken user input are provided. In one example, audio input containing a spoken user input can be received at a user device. The spoken user input can be identified from the audio input by identifying start and end-points of the spoken user input. It can be determined whether or not the spoken user input was intended for a virtual assistant based on contextual information. The determination can be made using a rule-based system or a probabilistic system. If it is determined that the spoken user input was intended for the virtual assistant, the spoken user input can be processed and an appropriate response can be generated. If it is instead determined that the spoken user input was not intended for the virtual assistant, the spoken user input can be ignored and/or no response can be generated.Type: GrantFiled: February 25, 2020Date of Patent: September 28, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Philippe P.
