Patent number: 9917648Abstract: Particular embodiments provide a method for delivering data in the upstream direction without the need for upstream radio frequency (RF) modulation. For example, in some embodiments, an optical network may reach to a gateway associated with a user device. The gateway may receive digital baseband data from the user device in the upstream direction. The gateway can then send the digital baseband data through the optical network without modulating the digital baseband signal via radio frequency. At the headend, because no modulation is performed in the upstream direction, there is no need for de-modulation in the headend. In one embodiment, a scheduler-based approach is used to avoid instances of optical beat interference in the upstream direction as only one upstream device that may interfere with other devices may be able to send data at one time.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 2014Date of Patent: March 13, 2018Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: Zoran Maricevic, Dean Stoneback, Marcel F. Patent number: 9912988Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate anticipatory conditioning of multimedia content for delivery to one or more devices. A multimedia device may track and record correlations between each of a plurality of devices, wherein the correlations are based on the order in which one or more devices request synchronization of a piece of content following a request by a first device for synchronization of the same piece of content. The multimedia device may update device correlations with each subsequent content synchronization request. When the multimedia device receives a synchronization request for a piece of content, the multimedia device may identify a device correlated with the requesting device and may initiate a conditioning of the piece of content for delivery to the correlated device without first receiving a request for synchronization of the piece of content from the correlated device.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2016Date of Patent: March 6, 2018Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: Krishna Prasad Panje, Sadeesh Kumar Karuppiah, Praveen Girish

Patent number: 9912667Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate the management of connections between one or more client devices and an access point over one or more service sets. An access point may maintain a list of client devices that have successfully associated with a private service set broadcast from the access point, and when a client device from the list attempts to connect to a public service set broadcast from the access point, the access point may deny the client device's attempt to connect to the public service set. Attempts by the client device to join the public service set may be denied for a predetermined number of attempts or a predetermined period of time. Denying an attempt to connect to a public service set may provide a client device with more opportunities to connect to a private service set broadcast from a corresponding access point.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2017Date of Patent: March 6, 2018Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: John Randolph Bestermann, Wade E. Patent number: 9900406Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses can provide improved bandwidth and reduction in processing resources in a cable system using bonded upstream channels. Physical or environmental changes can occur in the HFC network effecting communication performance on one or more upstream channels. For optimal HFC network performance periodic measurements and adjustments are made reducing HFC network bandwidth and consume processing resources. This periodic maintenance is performed even if the communication service is not using the additional upstream bandwidth provided through upstream channel bonding. Demand-based bonded upstream channel allocation and de-allocation provides additional upstream bandwidth when required while optimizing HFC network performance and reducing processing resources through the reduction of periodic measurements and adjustments on the HFC network.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2011Date of Patent: February 20, 2018Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: William Turner Hanks, Jeffrey Joseph Howe

Patent number: 9893814Abstract: Particular embodiments use aggregation logic that reduces the noise in a daisy-chained optical return signal aggregation of multiple nodes. The aggregation logic determines when an input to a transmitter/receiver is not used and disables or turns off that input. Further, in the case of daisy-chaining, a service group aggregation signal (e.g., RF signals) from the customer premise equipment (CPEs) serviced by a respective node are presented to the channel “A” port of a digital return transmitter/receiver. However, internal to the transmitter/receiver, aggregation logic auto-senses what optical return signals have already been aggregated up to that point in the daisy chain and can then intelligently place the service group aggregation signal onto one of the digital return transmitter channels. In one embodiment, if there are two return channels, A and B, whichever of these channels has seen fewer aggregations up to this point, will receive the service group aggregation signal.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 2017Date of Patent: February 13, 2018Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: Zhijian Sun, Reza A. Patent number: 9876691Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media may be operable to facilitate client device band steering based upon deep packet inspection information. An access point may be configured to steer one or more client devices from a low frequency band to a high frequency band, and vice versa, based on the status of the low frequency band and/or high frequency band and the client devices associated with the bands. The access point may perform a deep packet inspection of data packet traffic associated with each associated client device, and may classify each client device as either a device associated with a media session or a device that is not associated with a media session based upon information retrieved from the deep packet inspection. The access point may choose one or more client devices to disassociate from a frequency band based upon the media session classification of the client devices.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2015Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: ARRIS Enterprises LLCInventors: Jay Strater, Subha Rajasekar
