Abstract: The present invention is based on that local administration of strontium ions in bone tissue has been found to improve the bone formation and bone mass upon implantation of a bone tissue implant in said bone tissue. In particular, the invention relates to a bone tissue implant having an implant surface covered by an oxide layer comprising strontium ions and a method for the manufacture thereof. A blasting powder comprising strontium ions, a method for locally increasing bone formation, and the use of strontium ions or a salt thereof for manufacturing a pharmaceutical composition for locally increasing bone formation are also provided by the present invention.

  • Publication number: 20090099545
Abstract: A self-contained portable apparatus for administration of a drug solution is disclosed, comprising: a housing having an enclosure for receiving a flexible pouch containing a drug solution, the output of which is connectable to a conduit for delivering said drug solution to a recipient. A pressurization system is arranged for providing a constant and controllable gas pressure to the housing, wherein a controllable pressure is obtained for a controllable delivery of the drug solution. The pressurization system comprises: a pressure source for delivering positive pressure gas; a pressure accumulation tank connected to said source and to said second chamber, arranged to provide a positive pressure reservoir; a one-way valve arranged between said pressure source and said pressure accumulation tank, enabling gas to flow solely in the direction from the pressure source to the pressure accumulation tank; and a mechanical pressure regulator arranged between said pressure accumulation tank and said housing.

  • Patent number: 7517218
Abstract: Implant (10) having a shaft which is adapted in use to be embedded in bone tissue and which has an outer surface provided with a circumferentially-oriented roughness. The circumferentially-oriented roughness has first and second axial sections (19, 21) with each section comprising a series of circumferentially-oriented peaks which have a crest and which are axially spaced apart by troughs. The axial spacing (d) between the crests of adjacent peaks in the first axial section (19) is less than the axial spacing (3d) between the crests of adjacent peaks in the second axial section (21). Although the axial spacing between the crests of adjacent peaks in the first and second axial sections of circumferentially-oriented roughness differs, the first and second axial sections of circumferentially-oriented roughness are adapted in use to provide the same or substantially the same pitch.

  • Publication number: 20080015485
Abstract: An apparatus for collecting and salvaging blood is disclosed, comprising: a first chamber for collecting blood through an inlet port; a second chamber for receiving blood from the first chamber through a connection channel and a channel valve manually controllable to close the connection channel. Further, the apparatus comprises a control means for simultaneously controlling the channel valve and the internal pressure of the second chamber. Still further, a lipid separator is arranged in the second chamber for separating the blood from lipids before the release through the release port. By the arrangement of the lipid separator in the second chamber, it is possible to provide a very efficient separation and cleaning of the blood, and to allow release of the separated lipids and other buoyant substances from the chamber when the concentration is too high. Consequently, the apparatus could be used during an extended period of time, and could also be used for repeated re-use.

Abstract: According to the present application, a medical package including a container (1) and a medical component (6), in particular a dental implant component, is disclosed. Said container (1) in a closed position thereof forms a component compartment (2) for said medical component (6) and an access channel (5) for an external instrument. Said access channel (5) is dimensioned to prevent said component (6) from passing through the access channel (5) and to allow said instrument to be inserted through the channel (5) and brought into engagement with the component (6) while the container (1) is in its closed position. Said container (1) is transferable to an open position while maintaining said engagement of the external instrument with the component (6), and said component (6), in the open position of said container (1), is removable from the container (1) by said external instrument.
