Abstract: In order to avoid writing duplicates of blocks of data into a storage platform, any virtual disk within the storage platform may have a de-duplication feature enabled. Or, all virtual disks have this feature enabled. For virtual disks with de-duplication enabled, a unique message digest is calculated for every block of data written to that virtual disk. Upon a write, these message digests are consulted in order to determine if a particular block of data has already been written, if so, it is not written again, and if not, it is written. All de-duplication virtual disks are written to a single system virtual disk within the storage platform. De-duplication occurs over the entire storage platform and over all its virtual disks because all message digests are consulted before a write is performed for any virtual disk. A read for a de-duplication virtual desk reads from the system virtual disk.

Abstract: A non-cryogenic electro-permanent magnet for use in a gyrotron comprises a plurality of toroidal-shaped sets of electromagnet coils and a plurality of toroidal-shaped permanent magnets, each permanent magnet comprising a plurality of arc segment blocks. Each set of the coils is separated from an adjacent set of the coils by one or more of the permanent magnets disposed between the adjacent sets of coils, such that the coils and the permanent magnets are arranged concentrically to form an open central bore. A combination of magnetic fields in the permanent magnets and magnetic fields in the coils generates a substantially uniform axial magnetic field in the bore.
Abstract: A system and method for visualizing safety events within a process plant includes accessing a cause and effect matrix (CEM) having a set of causes and a set of effects, wherein the set of causes and the set of effects are representative of a set of monitored safety events within the process plant. The system and method further includes receiving a selection of a monitored safety event of the set of monitored safety events. The system and method may also include displaying, in a user interface, (i) an indication of the monitored safety event, and (ii) a current status of the monitored safety event. The system and method may also include detecting a change in status to the monitored safety event. Further, the system and method may include displaying, in the user interface, an updated status of the monitored safety event according to the change in status.
Abstract: Systems and circuits relating to the integration of energy storage subsystems into components for use with systems that harvest energy from PV panels and that convert that energy for use with a power grid. Various configurations of inverters that integrate energy storage cells are presented. Half-bridge and full bridge configurations for the inverters are presented. The integrated energy storage cells may be battery cells, supercapacitor cells, or a combination of the two.

Abstract: A network appliance or smart switch can include service devices as well as a switching device such as those used in high-speed switches having limited processing ability and are stateless with respect to sessions. Service devices can provide stateful and complex processing. A first exposed port of a switching device can receive network packets and can determine which network packets the service devices are to process to produce processed network packets. A network packet can be sent to a service device in a redirected packet. A processed network packet can be received from a service device in a reinjected packet that is used to recover a port identifier of the first exposed port. The port identifier can be used to determine a network destination of the processed network packet. The processed network packet can be sent from a second exposed port of the switching device toward the network destination.
