  • Patent number: 7405535
Abstract: A system and method for recharging secondary batteries. One embodiment of the present invention comprises a supervisory circuit, a voltage converter, a portable power source, and one or more of a holder and a socket. The holder is adapted to receive a specific type of secondary battery of a portable device. The socket is adapted to mate with a plug of a device-specific charging cord connected to the portable device. Each of the holder and the plug can be associated with a programming resistor that provides a voltage requirement of the secondary battery. When the secondary battery is either placed in the holder or is connected to the socket, the supervisory circuit communicates with the voltage converter to supply the appropriate voltage required to recharge the secondary battery. The voltage converter receives power from the portable power source. The voltage converter can convert the voltage of the portable power source up (i.e., increasing the voltage) or down (i.e.

  • Patent number: 7406710
Abstract: A system and method for controlling, by an outside entity, one or more devices associated with a location. A representative embodiment of the system architecture comprises an internal computer system through which a device may be remotely controlled by the outside entity during a communication session between the outside entity and the internal computer system through an external computer network. The external computer network can be the Internet. When the outside entity is requested to control the device, the outside entity's identity information is authenticated before the communication session is established. In a preferred embodiment, the internal computer system is protected by a firewall. The firewall allows the outside entity to access the internal computer system to control the device if the outside entity can provide proper identity information. The identity information of the outside entity may be a password that is recognized by the firewall.

  • Patent number: 7403602
Abstract: A global computer network message delivery service is disclosed. A sender enters a short message for delivery to a recipient's telephone. The sender also enters the recipient's telephone number. The sender may also enter the telephone number that he can be reached at in case the recipient wants to converse live with the sender upon receipt of the message. The message and other entered information is authenticated and validated. The sender's billing telephone number is determined for billing purposes. A call leg is created from a service node to the switch hosting the sender's billing telephone number. The sender's inter-exchange carrier codes are determined and another call leg is created from the service node to the recipient's telephone. After the recipient answers, the service node plays the message (via text-to-speech technology) to the recipient. The inter-exchange carrier codes are used to bill the message service to the sender's billing telephone number.

  • Patent number: 7403600
Abstract: A method for delivering person to person services to a telephone subscriber. An embodiment of the present invention may be implemented on an Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). A telephone number of a buddy of the subscriber is associated with a buddy rule on a buddy list. The buddy list is accessible by a service control point. When a call intended the subscriber is received by a service switching point from a calling party, a query is launched by the service switching point to the service control point. The query comprises the calling number of the calling party and the called number of the subscriber. Using the called number, the service control point retrieves and reviews the buddy list. If the calling number matches the telephone number on the buddy list, the service control point instructs the service switching point to terminate the call using the buddy rule.

  • Patent number: 7403969
Abstract: Prior to the intermediate host conference, an Intermediate Host Conferencing Module communicates a library of digital objects and the Intermediate Host Conferencing Module to an intermediate host communications device(s). During the conference, the intermediate host-resident Intermediate Host Conferencing Module receives a synchronization command and instructs the intermediate host communications device to communicate a synchronized object with presentation instructions to a downstream participant communications device and to present the synchronized object to the intermediate host communications device. Furthermore, the participant communications devices may communicate a synchronization acknowledgment back to the Intermediate Host Conferencing Module. The synchronization confirmation acknowledges a successful presentation of the synchronized object to the intermediate host communications device and/or to at least one of the downstream participant communications devices.

  • Patent number: 7404142
Abstract: A structure file defines a hierarchical structure and a plurality of content files each define at least one digital content item. Each content file can be related to a position within the hierarchical structure, thereby organizing the content files into the hierarchical structure. To present categories and digital content items rapidly, categories are read from the structure file and are mapped to areas on a display. A location on the display is received and a category corresponding to the received location is displayed. After a category is selected, second files corresponding to the selected category are mapped to areas on the display. A location on the display is received and at least one digital content item of the second file corresponding to the received location is displayed.

  • Patent number: 7401144
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for a technician to access an intranet through a systems interface to back-end legacy systems. Generally, a technician logs a computer into a systems interface that permits access to back-end legacy systems. Preferably, the systems interface is located on at least a first network address. Preferably, the systems interface includes a first server with middleware for managing the protocol interface. Preferably, the systems interface includes a second server for receiving requests and generating legacy transactions. After the computer is logged in, a request for access to an intranet is made. Preferably, the request results from the technician selecting an icon or engaging a software button. After the request is processed, a message is sent from the systems interface to the computer. The message causes the computer to launch a software application that seeks out a separate network address corresponding to the intranet.

  • Publication number: 20080168147
Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for detecting incorrect e-mail addresses in outgoing e-mail communications. In a first embodiment, a domain name database creates a table of domain names by automatically storing the domain names of e-mail addresses from which incoming e-mails are received. When a user creates an outgoing e-mail communication, the system checks the domain names provided by the user with those domain names stored in the table. If the user-provided domain name does not match any of the domain names in the table, or closely resembles a domain name in the table, the user is prompted to confirm the provided e-mail address. In a second embodiment, e-mail addresses are extracted from incoming e-mail communications and stored in a memory in a client computer e-mail communications system. The system checks the memory for the presence of the e-mail addresses provided in outgoing e-mail communications, and generates a prompt when an e-mail address is not present in the memory.
