Abstract: A flexible ultrasonic contact transducer comprises an unpoled polymeric film layer and a poled piezo film layer. Electrode shielding layers are disposed on outer surfaces of the unpoled polymeric film layer and poled piezo film layer. A quarter wave reflector is disposed between inner surfaces of the two layers. An ultrasonic contact transducer array comprises a common poled piezo film layer and a common backing/insulating layer. A plurality of quarter wave reflector elements are disposed between inner surfaces of the poled piezo film layer and backing/insulating layer. Shielding electrodes are disposed on the outer surfaces of the two layers. A polymeric shielding layer is preferably disposed around the quarter wave reflectors. Lead means provide an electrical path from the quarter wave reflectors to a common edge of the array.
Abstract: A method for the preparation of alkanesulfonamides in high purity and high yield using solvents selected from C.sub.3 to C.sub.8 cyclic ethers or mixtures thereof is disclosed. The final products have use as synthetic intermediates for the manufacture of useful final products.

Abstract: An improvement in the process of incorporating a modifier ingredient into the surface region of a resinous article is described herein. The basic process includes immersing the article in a liquid such as water and contacting the immersed article with a solution of a modifier ingredient in a solvent which is immiscible with the liquid. The improvement herein comprises running the process at a temperature lower than ambient or room temperature whereat substantially no solid material is formed on the surface of the water layer during the process.

Abstract: The present invention comprises novel single-functional and mixtures of multi-functional oligomeric performance additive compounds having one or more components of Structure A R1 ? ? ##STR1## (The definitions of R, Z1, Z2, Z3, A1, A2, A3 and y are given in the Summary Section), their uses and polymeric compounds and compositions containing them which have enhanced oxidative stabilities, enhanced ultraviolet (UV) and light stabilites and/or enhanced flame retardance. An example is the bis sulfonic acid bispotassium salt reaction product from an oligomeric caprolactone diol (TONE.RTM. 260), 2-sulfobenzoic acid anhydride and potassium carbonate, and use of this product, at levels up to about 3.0%, in a general purpose bisphenol A polycarbonate resin, to enhance the fire resistance or flame retardance of the polycarbonate resin.

Abstract: An improvement in the preparation of printed circuits comprises inserting a deformable layer between the phototool or support layer, and the solder mask. The deformable layer provides a uniform, integral and relatively thin coating of solder mask over circuit components, and results in higher-quality solder joints and lower rejection rates for finished boards.

Abstract: The invention relates to a composition which is usable for the stabilization of thermoplastic resin against the effects of heat and/or light. This composition comprises a hydrotalcite, a zinc zeolite and a zinc carboxylate. It is applied, more especially, to thermoplastic resins containing halogens, and in particular to PVC.
Abstract: A hood for coating glass articles has side walls and a top part, forming a tunnel through which hot glass articles pass; blowing and suction channels in the active part of the hood are formed to present substantial line contacts facing the ware being coated. By introducing relatively large radiating surfaces, the buildup of reaction-product crust on the interior of the apparatus is minimized.
Abstract: Polymeric flame retardants comprise halogenated aromatic compounds having acylamino functional groups which are chemically bonded to cyclic imide-containing or imide-forming polymers or copolymers. The polymeric flame retardants are prepared by the reaction of halogenated aromatics containing a reactive hydrazido group with some or all of the anhydride groups of an cyclic alpha, beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride polymer or copolymer to form pendant halogenated-aromatic-substituted imide or amic acid groups. In addition, polymeric film retardants are used to render thermoplastic resins less flammable under conditions which promote combustion. Novel flame retardant hydrazides are disclosed.
Abstract: Apparatus for the coating of glass containers has a series of vertical slots for applying coating chemicals to a hot glass jar with a minimal neck and shoulder area. An opposing horizontal slot exhausts spent coating material and reactants in a laminar flow. A center section provides a current of gas without chemicals parallel to the coating stream, and flowing with low velocity relative to the coating stream, but with high velocity relative to the extraneous turbulent and convection currents.
Abstract: An integrated apparatus and a process for precipitation and charcoal absorption of pesticide residues in agriculatural waste water solutions are disclosed.
Abstract: Stabilized polyurethanes, polyureas and polyurethane-polyurea polymers having hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS) bonded thereto by means of a hydrazide functionality attached to the HALS are provided. The synergistic effect of a second amide functional group in the HALS-hydrazide provides improved photostabilization efficiency as compared to HALS-hydrazides of the prior art.
Abstract: A coating applicator is provided for depositing a film on a surface of glass or other substrates by chemical-vapor deposition. The applicator includes a pair of opposing coating nozzles for applying a vaporized coating-chemical reactant in a carrier gas to the surface at such a concentration and velocity that coating of the surface is achieved under substantially reaction-rate-controlled conditions. Each coating nozzle is positioned adjacent the surface with a small clearance therebetween, the clearance being open to the outside atmospehre. The opposing coating nozzles are directed toward each other at a selected angle with respect to the surface of the substrate. The angle and the clearance provide a condition where there is substantially no intermixing of coating vapors with the outside atmosphere.
Abstract: A positive displacement piston pump includes a cylinder having a working end, an inlet port, an outlet port and a working chamber bounded by the outlet port and the working end; a piston rotatably and reciprocably movable in the cylinder between a retracted position and an extended position, the piston including a free end having a recessed section alternately in fluid communication with the inlet port and the outlet port; a drive motor rotatably and reciprocably driving the piston in the cylinder; a yoke and ball and socket joint pivotally connecting the piston to the drive motor; a base having an upper surface with an elongated slot below the pivot point of the piston and an arcuate slot adjacent the opposite end of the cylinder; and first and second pivot pins secured to a swivel plate which is, in turn, secured to the cylinder through a vertical column, whereby the recessed section is positioned entirely in the working chamber when the piston is at the end of its pressure stroke, regardless of the angle b
