Abstract: A mercaptocarboxylic acid of formula (I) is prepared by reacting an unsaturated carboxylic acid of formula (II) with a hydrosulphide of formula ASH, A being an alkali metal cation or a cation NR3R4R5R6+, R3 to R6 each representing H or a hydrocarbon radical, or of formula Q(SH)2, Q being an alkaline-earth metal cation, by acidifying the resulting reaction medium in order to obtain the desired compound (I). According to the present invention, the reaction is carried out with a supply of H2S other than that supplied by the neutralization of the acid (II). In particular, H2S is introduced into the medium by a direct external supply. H2S can also be produced in situ by reacting the hydrosulphide with at least one acid introduced into the medium.
The compound (I) is obtained with a very good selectivity.

Abstract: The invention describes polyamides having both strongly hydrophilic groups and unsaturated groups, the polyamides consequently being water-dispersible and curable.
The hydrophilic groups are distributed along the chain, whereas the unsaturated groups are located at the ends.
The polyamides of the invention are useful in many applications, especially in the preparation of intimate blends of polyamides with vinyl, acrylic and/or styrene polymers.
Abstract: Acrylic Modified Fluoropolymers based on vinylidene fluoride polymers are disclosed wherein the acrylic phase is capable of entering into crosslinking reactions. The final cured products provide superior solvent extractability resistance to the fluoropolymer phase.
Abstract: The invention relates to a combination of compounds and a process using such combination useful for reducing or preventing coke formation in thermal cracking furnaces such as ethylene steam crackers.
Abstract: The preparation of a carboxylic ester by direct reaction of a carboxylic acid and an alcohol catalyzed by a sulphonic acid R—SO3H is carried out in the presence of a solid comprising tertiary amine functions.
Abstract: To prepare compound (I), a quaternising agent R3—X⊖ is introduced into a solution, in an organic solvent or a mixture of organic solvents, of a compound of formula (III), at a temperature of 35 to 80° C., and the reaction is then allowed to continue at said temperature until compound (III) has disappeared completely or substantially completely, after which water is added and then an aqueous solution of compound (I) is separated and the water removed as necessary.
R1=H or —CH3; R2=one of —CH3, —C2H5, —C3H7 and —C4H9; the two R3 are the same or different and each represents one of —CH3, —C2H5, —C3H7, —C4H9 and —CH2C6H5; and the two X⊖ are the same or different and each represents Cl⊖ or Br⊖.

Abstract: Multi-phase blends of VDF-based polymers are provided which are useful in a variety of applications such as wire and cable, pipe and liner applications, and rotational molding.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composite material comprising, by weight, the total being 100% : A) 40 to 90% of PVDF homopolymer or copolymer crystallized essentially in the &bgr; form, B) 10 to 60% of a conductive filler, C) 0 to 40% of a crystalline or semi-crystalline polymer, D) 0 to 40% of a filler other than C, such that the crystals in the &bgr; form are nucleated on the surface of the particles of the conductive filler. This material is conductive with a resistance which is self-regulated by the temperature. It shows an increase in the resistance as a function of the temperature (PTC or “Positive Temperature Coefficient” effect), so that the intensity stabilizes at an equilibrium temperature.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a thermoformable multilayer film comprising in succession:
a protective layer (A);
a transparent layer (B) comprising (by weight the total amount being 100%) 0 to 100% of a fluoropolymer (B1) and 100 to 0% of a polymer (B2) essentially consisting of alkyl (meth)acrylate units;
a layer (C) based on a polyamide with amine terminal groups;
a layer (D) consisting of a polyolefin functionalized by an unsaturated carboxylic acid anhydride;
